Had our party last night. Well, it wasn't much of a party, just one other person. I showed him clips from ANHR, then we watched Ady's ESB Theatrical Recreation. We did make a cake though! Well, we bought a cake from the grocery and stuck figures on it. ;-)

Anyone else have a party?

Also, throughout the whole movie my wife was asking me why this is everyone's favorite (hers is RotJ). I couldn't really narrow it down...

Hello all,

It appears I have a problem. In 2006, LucasFilm released the 30th anniversary “limited Edition” DVD collectors tin set including both the special edition and the original theatrical version of, A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi in a widescreen format. I was wondering, if they had ever released the same tin with both special and original versions but, in a fullscreen format?

Or can you only get the 2006 fullscreen versions individually.

Why would you want any film in fullscreen format?

I have never come across fullscreen versions of the original trilogy (whether OOT or SE) on DVD or Blu-ray. The UK 2006 SE+GOUT release was widescreen only as far as I know. I believe the last incarnations of fullscreen versions were on VHS and laserdisc back in the 1990s.

The only reason I would want the film’s in a fullscreen format, is because I’m a collector. Otherwise no, widescreen is better. From my research yesterday, I can confirm that they have released a 2006 version on DVD in Fullscreen individually. Not in a trilogy set like the widescreen release in the collector’s tin or in 2008 with the slim case release.

Fair enough. Screams above is right, in some regions the gold version was the fullscreen one.

Can you send photo’s in chat? So I can further explain what I’m trying to talk about?

Also, FWIW, both the fullscreen and a widescreen releases used the same bonus disc, which was always non-anamorphic widescreen. In other words, in the fullscreen release, only the Special Edition disc was fullscreen.

Thanks CatBus! Was the fullscreen released in a collector’s tin like the widescreen?

Just do a quick google image search. You can quickly see (A) the “gold Vader” boxed version and (B) the later versions that have the GOUT bonus disc inside, these have a blue “fullscreen” label on the top of the artwork.

Only the WS versions were released in the tin set.

It was a limited edition but it was not for the 30th anniversary and I don’t remember anywhere it being marketed that way. SW was only 29 at the time anyways.
