It doesn’t have to be genetically modified or anything sci-fi. It’s just a hairstyle, and hardly one of the weirder ones in this series.

To play Devil’s advocate, maybe her style would’ve been less “off” to some if they had kept her “hippy-dippy” personality from the first cut of the film. I could possibly see an argument in toning down her style since they also toned down her personality.

Also, if she had been introduced as a surviving senator, more people may have felt her style better matched that profession.

Some random thoughts:

In TFA, when Finn asks Rey if she has flown the Falcon, I wonder if it would be possible have Rey say, “Yes, but this ship hasn’t flown in years.” Any ideas on where Rey might’ve said something similar?

In the shot of BB-8 rolling toward the Falcon (the one from the first TFA teaser), it would be cute if BB-8 was making beeping sounds as he’s bouncing across the terrain. Sort of like the sound babies make when you’re bouncing them on your knee, where their tone shifts as they bounce.

This is more of an OT change relevant to the ST: I know some people don’t like the “Godspeed Rebels” lines, but instead of removing them, you could also have an offscreen rebel officer say it at some point in the OT to establish it as a rebel phrase. The only two people we ever hear say it in TLJ seem old enough to have both been OG rebels, so it would make sense for them to say that if it was something they said in their glory days.

I think there is an interesting idea in TLJ where we see older and younger generations working together and sometimes butting heads in both factions, and I wish that could’ve been explored more in the film.

A quick reminder that the Star Wars Preservation and Star Wars Fan Edit sections of the site are NOT the places to bash on certain eras or aspects of the films, actors, film-makers or owners.

There are far more relevant threads in the General Star Wars Discussion section of the site to talk about this.

Critiquing a scene in the Star Wars Fan Edits section with the aim of improving it, removing it, altering it etc is perfectly fine. Statements such as ‘Disney sucks’ and ‘this film is so shit no Fan Edit can save it’ etc, is not.

Either way, maybe we’re getting distracted from hair colour chat, which I’m still really struggling to understand. I think there’s something fundamental I’m missing here because a few people now have said things like her hair is childish, not suitable for an admiral, annoying, attention seeking; but I don’t know of anywhere in the movies or the EU stuff I have read where people in the Star Wars universe would think things like that about a specific colour of hair or make judgments about people’s abilities based on appearance. Especially when there’s so much tolerated variety in Star Wars with all the aliens, and even other humans with crazy hair like Leia’s buns. Am I nuts or does it feel like a very specific set of assumptions we’re making here?

And even if people in Star Wars think pink hair on humans = less skilled, surely the fact that Holdo’s an admiral goes to prove that they value her abilities higher than even that judgment, like the Empire with Thrawn (“we hate aliens, but damn this one’s a great alien”).

Sorry if I’ve not been up with recent discussions, but what was broken about Holdo’s hair being purple?

Nothing mate.

Though some may want to tackle it as a technical challenge / exercise (apparently it is quite a difficult, labour-intensive task to to do - and get right).

Others don’t like the Holdo character and wish to make changes to her.

An aesthetic choice - some seemingly don’t like (through to some not being able to stand) people having purple hair in their Star Wars space opera / fantasy films.

A few have problems that the purple hair meant that the Holdo character was a lesbian; an oft-mentioned comment when making racist, sexist, homophobic or other derogatory comments on other female characters in the Sequels too.

I like to think most on here doing this change for Edits see it as an aesthetic choice or a technical exercise / challenge…

You said “a few,” but you also said, “oft-mentioned,” and I have zero trust in you or others like you to make the distinction. You’ve defended Johnson for his fan bashing several times. “Oh no, he just doesn’t like the bad ones.” That’s nonsense. It’s essentially a political divide, and I think it’s fine to acknowledge that openly.

Racist, sexist, homophobic comments etc made in early TLJ threads in General Star Wars Discussion forum. Moderators remove some comments - some comments remain.

oojason says when many comments made above there were also comments about purple hair in as well. This is a fact - no ‘trust’ needed.

Political divide? On color of hair? Bullshit - unless if you mean it okay to make racist, sexist, homophobic comments?

Wow.

It’s the people demanding an explanation for changing the hair that brought it up. To explain it, it requires criticizing the movie. When we get criticized for doing that and demands for further explanation, we’re going to give further explanation.

You’ve gone much further than that, and continued to bash the films in here - despite being told there are more apt threads to do just that - and this isn’t one of them. Hiding behind “people demanded an explanation for changing the hair” isn’t likely going to cut it - the mods already gave a few possible explanations.

You are just trolling the films in here. Now other members with your comment to Snooker. To a certain extent you are trolling the mods too.

By Jason ‘defending Johnson’ you mean Jason posting articles where Rian Johnson calls out the toxic fans over their racism, sexism, death threats and chasing actors off social media etc - and yet states he (RJ) has no problem with fans simply disliking or criticizing TLJ.

Not much of a politicial divide there. Just you carrying on bashing the films in here - and taking aim at those that don’t.

Show me literally any evidence of RJ bashing any fan who simply disliked the movie without being toxic or just get out of here honestly. The only political divide here are the people who think facts don’t matter and those who think they do.

I wonder if either idea could be implemented in a Blackened Mantle type fanedit with a foreign dub and subtitles. Both ideas are pretty cool.

They’re space fantasy movies but they have a very particular aesthetic, especially in regards to the Rebellion/Resistance and Empire/First Order. Military figures wear military uniforms or at the very least, military style clothing. When a Vice Admiral has candy color hair and wears a cocktail dress, it sticks out, and there’s no real reason for it to stick out.

Also, ignoring everything else they’ve said in this thread, I actually agree a little with Vladius here. It doesn’t bother me, but it is a different aesthetic.

ooJason has posted articles on here highlighting the fact that Rian Johnson has indeed called out the toxic fans - sexists, racists, homophobes and people who issue death threats etc; and that Rian Johnson has no problem with fans simply voicing their dislike of the movie.

Rian Johnson is on record saying exactly this - he has no problem with fans who simply don’t like the movie.

I’m quite looking to forward to seing some ‘3 in 1 Edits’ of the Sequel Trilogy upon the release of the TROS blu ray. Should be a great way to come up with ST Edits without many of the scenes that some people seem to have issues with.

And some of the other 3 in 1 Edits for the Prequels did a decent job given the source material too.

Hopefully we’ll see more deleted or cut scenes from all three films in a later ST box set?

Star Wars: Episode VII - Legacy of the Force

Luke Skywalker has vanished after a former student, Kylo Ren, destroyed his Jedi temple. In the absence of the Jedi, Imperial sympathizers have seeped into the Republic, allowing the First Order to rise. Led by the fallen angel Kylo Ren, it now conquers the galaxy, trying to re-establish the Empire.

Rumor has it that Luke has returned to the first Jedi temple on Ahch-To, and General Leia Organa, working with a paramilitary Resistance hell-bent on destroying the First Order, hunts down the long-forgotten map to the ocean world, and has tracked down the final piece to Jakku. However, so has Kylo Ren.

The movie would go the same, until the Battle of Takodana. After Rey is taken. They go right to Star non-Killer Base. Han dies, they have the snow fight, and go to D’Qar. But, Han was right. If he could find the Falcon, so could the First Order. They evacuate just as Rey leaves to Ahch-To

The scenes of Rey meeting Luke are all in a row here. Most of the Last Jedi plays out normally, although Finn and Rose just go home after they get put in the Canto Bight prison, for time. They tell Poe it’s a failure, and that’s when his plan for an insurrection begin.

It keeps going normally until they land on Crait, where the rest of the Last Jedi would play out.

It would probably end there as a 2-in-1, though. That’s a pretty strong resolution and already a long runtime.

The only nitpick I have is avoid usage of the word “angel.” Yeah, TPM had that one line, but it has a different connotation within Star Wars now. Could modify it to say “Luke’s former student” or “fallen Jedi” or similar.

I’m making a 3 in 1 edit of the sequel trilogy, I have some ideas for a pretty radical edit, but of course I need to wait until The Rise of Skywalker is out to finalize the plans. While I like the sequels, I want to make an edit with Leia, Luke and Han all in the same film… the problem is, while there is lots of awesome footage that can be used, they are never all in the same place together, so I worry about it feeling sort of choppy and random, but I’m hoping to create a coherent plot that will also focus on the new characters as well. But to create a 3 in 1 edit, a lot has to be cut out or rearranged, its going to be hard but I think it will be a fun experiment that will hopefully be enjoyable.

Another idea just because I want to spit radical ideas tonight:

This would have to be done in a redubbed fanedit, and would depend heavily on how Episode IX turns out on how usable this idea is, even with a redub.

Darth Plagueis, Palpatine’s former master, was not fully destroyed. He cheated death, and 26 years after his apprentice’s death, has resurfaced.

Working off of his apprentices Empire, he founds the Ultimate Order. The master of life and death, he reanimates the ancient Sith Masters to serve him: Darth Revan, Darth Bane*, Darth Malak*, Darth Zannah*, and even his traitorous apprentice, Darth Sidious. However, they’re only shells of their former selves, slaves to Darth Plagueis.

His might has brought the fledgeling Republic, still struggling with remnants of Sidious’s Empire, to its knees, and Luke’s new Jedi Order was not able to adapt to this challenge. The risen Sith killed all his Jedi, including Han and Leia’s only child Ben, and forced him into hiding on the first Jedi Temple of Ahch-To, where he has spent the past 6 years.

However, in these 6 years, the Ultimate Order has completely conquered the galaxy. However, Leia and Han’s experience in the Rebellion have allowed them to create an even more effective Resistance against Plagueis’s Empire.

In this time of need, however, Leia sends Poe Dameron on a mission to an old ally, who has a map to the first temple. She needs Luke to come back now.

*Knights of Ren?

Not sure where it would go from there. Kylo/Revan killing Snoke/Plagueis, though, would be an ultimate act of self-determination and might be paired with a return to the light?

I am and have always been against Plagueis ever being seen as it takes away from the mystique and ambiguity of The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise.

However, the idea of the Knights of Ren being the reanimated corpses of Sith intrigues me. I think they should be at least mostly those we’ve seen onscreen. Imagine, at the end of the trilogy, seeing them unmask themselves and they’re the rotting corpses of Darths Bane (although technically mentioned, he was created by Lucas, and was the invetor of the Rule of Two, so important enough to warrant a spot), Plagueis (yeah, I’m circumventing my rule, but hey, he’s a corpse here, so it’s fine), Maul, Tyrannus, and last but not least Vader, with Ventress to round out the cast (not technically a Sith but like Kylo is essentially the same thing).

Palpatine should still be on top.
