Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (Disney Theme Park) — Page 4

As much as people complain about there being ahem “NO OT CHARACTERS…???” After being there today the OT is very much prevalent in the atmosphere of the park.

There’s such a reverence for the OT with all the cast members and the shops, I think a big issue is if you’re going there to find problems you’re gonna find problems that no one else would think of as a problem.

Having Hondo and Chewie guide you through the Falcon is an amazing experience that everyone should try. Also the milk is very tasty. That’s my two cents on this

After being beaten and battered by prequel hate, I promise not to be that to the next generation.

I agree, if you go looking for issues then you will find them. And if you were going to use an existing location from the films, which one would you pick? There are many and someone would complain if you picked one over the other. I like that it is a new place not seen in the films. And if you don’t know who Hondo is, you haven’t seen Clone Wars or Rebels and you are missing out. He is one of the nice scum that fits so well with what they were going for. I can’t wait to get to see in in person myself.

The bulk of Star Tours was invented for the ride, and nobody ever seemed to complain that we didn’t see Starspeeders in the movies. And yes, I know they finally made an appearance in Rebels three decades later.

The entire experience feels disconnected and it is very disheartening to see the park is all about the new materials with their signature blandness running rampant. Of course the parks have opened with limited attractions and the like but the whole thing just looks so…Empty!
I have a relative who works at WDW but the GE wasn’t opened fully yet when I went to visit. They had an opportunity to try and get me in the employee preview but despite it being very difficult to get in-I didn’t even feel like trying to get in as the other sections that deal with SW in the park besides Star Tours have the same feeling of emptiness. There’s some props scattered around one section where they do meet and greets with characters and then one room off of there that has a Cantina bar prop wall for photos. Most of it is also all about the new films so the occasional OT or PT prop/mention feels really weird.

But the prices attached to everything-especially the breakdowns for families to go is just insanely high.

I think that as said above the distinct lack of energy and vibrancy is a major problem. The thought of going to a park which is teeming with life/activity/droids/scum and villainy like a real spaceport is MUCH more like it.

While I fundamentally disagree on the issue of content as it relates to the sequel trilogy, the lack of energy is a fair criticism, and unfortunately comes down to a lot of eleventh hour budget cuts imposed by the current president of Disney Parks. There were plans for autonomous roaming droids, stunt shows, and more characters and creatures populating the land, but Bob Chapek – who has quickly gained a reputation as something of a miser – pulled the ripcord and refused to hire the performers necessary to fill these roles.

The most frustrating thing is that the infrastructure is all there in plain sight in the land, it’s just not being used. There are stages and performance spaces around just about every corner of the outpost, there are props and set pieces placed conspicuously close to doorways that hide the beacons that would have told the droids areas to avoid. The grand opening press event in California featured one of the stunt shows that has yet to materialize for the general public, and similarly the opening in Florida featured a full Hondo Ohnaka walk-around character costume that – again – has not shown up since then. There’s all of this stuff that they spent the time and money to develop and have basically ready to go, but none of it’s online because the guy holding the purse strings is too cheap to hire performers.

Deliberately misleading fan comments on the Park like this do not help either…

(for those with genuine criticism(s) of the Park - and also those that enjoy it / think it okay etc.)

Wow. Just take an image, change the context, and then deliberately mislead / lie to suit an agenda - and to further it. Likely for the clicks or +1s etc - as alluded to in the comment at the bottom-right of the image.

I had no idea of this. That makes absolute sense as to what the park has turned out like so far and why someone would think it’s a good idea to open a seemingly empty park is beyond me.

Can’t wait to go back so I can finally get the full experience. I think that ride is the key to bringing that whole land to life.

^ Seems they are adding new locations - from TROS - to the ride. (To be added on the same date as the release of the film)

The linked article also gives the name of the ocean moon featured in the recent ‘Final Trailer’ for Episode IX too.

^ That is clever - keep same people who have already visited to come back for more! And it does look much work has been put into this project.

And then some my friend! Many theme parks have grown very accustomed to separating patrons and their money, and then doing it again on later visits as well.

This does look a good idea, keeping things fresh and current, offering something new - and we’re nearly all suckas for more Star Wars 😃

One time I was there and saw a Kylo and a Leia making out. So, if you’re into that sort of thing.

That’s odd. AFAIK SW has usually tended less toward Oedipal parental incest and more toward Wagnerian sibling incest. 😉

I am very jealous, it must have been a great sight and experience to be there and part of the occasion.

A nice visual and audio trick too!

I liked the food and the blue milk. My only real complaint is that the blue milk was frozen, oh and that the park wasn’t based on Star Wars!

I had a chance to ride Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland in CA yesterday. It doesn’t open here until the 17th, but I’m an employee of the company and sometimes they give us perks like that to make it worthwhile 😉

As far as I can tell it’s virtually identical to the Florida version (of which there are many ride-throughs on YouTube, including the one linked above) but damn if it isn’t one of the greatest rides ever built. I’m a notorious grump about new Star Wars and new theme parks (thought Smuggler’s Run was underwhelming and hated Ep IX), but this thing is something else. Do yourself a favor and get to Anaheim or Orlando to check it out.

And, for the record, I’m not even getting paid to say this!
