He also said article he links to in that story that he doesn’t expect the OUT.

He was non-committal about it at best. We won’t know for sure until Monday or Tuesday as things will have been cleared up by then.

All I’m saying is there is no reason Celebration is the only way they will release news about the impending 4K release of Star Wars. It could be Celebration, it could be May 4th, it could be some random Thursday afternoon in July. No need to pin your hopes/fears on just this week 😃

“As we said a week ago, it makes sense, given that Episode IX ends the 9-film “Skywalker” portion of the Star Wars Saga, that Disney would want to put all of the films (including Solo and Rogue One) into a new box set on Blu-ray and 4K next year. This is one of those subjects were our industry contacts run deep and there’s much we just can’t say. And the reason we can’t is that many things are still in flux and being decided.”

That’s from Bill Hunt’s Friday post at The Digital Bits.

Meanwhile, the article from The Digital Fix, which cites an unnamed UK-based source within Lucasfilm, seems to indicate the current plan as four discs per film for the 4k (three discs for the bd).

So even if standard dynamic range 1080p is the best we end up with for the OOT, I can’t imagine them doing that many discs per film and not having any of them be the unaltered version.

I think we’ll see 4K restorations of the SE versions in a boxset late next year. In my mind, this is the definitive version to the studio (with or without Lucas around). It’s going to take some of the talented creative people to then use this source to create a “despecialized” version.

Isn’t that article about the same exact screening your last link was about? (Serious question, I stopped reading and closed the tab when it threw a whole page banner ad in my face despite uBlock being on.)

Here’s hoping the rumours about a Blu Ray release in September contains the OUT. Also hoping D+ Has it.

There’s pretty much no chance Disney+ would have the OUT. In fact, since I-VI will be up on the service “within the first year,” that’s all the more reason for Disney to include the OUT in the physical 4k ultra hd releases next year and make it exclusive to the physical release. It would give people one more reason to buy them instead of simply waiting for them to go up on the streaming service.

Seeing that The Black Hole finally got a Blu-Ray release last month exclusively through the Disney Movie Club, I wonder if they might take this route with the OUT?

I’ve seen that idea brought up elsewhere, but if that rumor from April is true (that each film will have four discs when it hits UHD next year) then I don’t see how one of those discs wouldn’t be the unaltered version.

The idea that they’d put the OUT out there via DMC implies that Disney doesn’t want to force people to buy versions of the movie they don’t want. I really think we’ve got it backwards. The OOT doesn’t need the SE to sell in bigger numbers, the SE needs the OOT. A lot more people are aware of how many times these films have been revised now than in 2004. That initial dvd release sold like crazy, but I’ve heard multiple people tell me they were shocked to get to the end and see Hayden as Anakin.

A significant percentage of the fans would prefer to watch the original versions, and a not insignificant percentage would probably even prefer the 1997 versions (updated vfx but no replaced actors).

The original trilogy will absolutely be released some day. Even if it’s our children that get to enjoy it! To lose hope is to deny the very love that made us star wars fans to begin with. I shall now finish my 15%-alcohol russian beer and watch Rogue One. Good day, fine people!

It’s all star wars and that’s the problem!
