Could live action SW TV show look like BSG??

Author
Time
When the new Battlestar Galactica first aired, one of the aspects to the show I found unique and added a certain look, was the pseudo-handycam method of recording, particularly in the space-action scenes. The camera doesn't lock on to the main action immediately, almost like an amateur.

Could Lucas take be taking a hint from BSG??

From SciFi Wire:
Lucas Details TV Plans

Star Wars creator George Lucas told a conference that he will turn his attentions more to television projects, including two Star Wars-themed series, Variety reported. Lucas made the comments in a keynote talk at the annual Siggraph computer graphics conference and trade show. "My life's too short to become a film studio," he reportedly said.

Lucas added: "Lucasfilm is going more into television, but it's not a vision I'm running, either as executive producer or by laying out the groundwork."

The first series is a 3-D animated Clone Wars series that will be made at Lucas Animation's Singapore facility. He said he'll start scouring Asia for talent and try to build up 3-D animation there. In his proposed Star Wars live-action series, he said: "We're going do something that would normally cost [$20 million-$30 million] and try to do it for $1 million." Lucas said he'll shoot the series on a Sony digital camera system that anyone can buy at an electronics store.

Well, those last few sentences were... interesting. Make a $20-30 million venture on a $1 million budget? Sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ask me. I'll believe it when I see it. And shot on a digital camcorder? What is it going to be? Star Wars: The Home Movies? I see bad, bad things happening.

this is an outright lie since he said at celebration 3 that he was behind the transition to television shows, and he was executive producing writing and directing the whole first season of the live action show. He would give over the reins afterwords, and that like young indy they were going to write up all the scripts which will take years then shoot them all at once. But i don't believe him since he said the same thing about the prequels in the leonard maltin interview, and he's lied about a dozen times about his never considering an episode 7-9, i mean he admitted at one point that he has all the outlines for 1-9. Plus now he claims the story has always been about vader, but that idea did'nt even come about till jedi was almost completely shot and in the can. The original story was about Luke Starkiller and was from the journal of the whills, who became luke skywalker. I hate his revisionist ruining of the original trilogy of films i loved as a child, i wish now he never had made the special editions or the prequels. I had always wanted to see the sequel to jedi but now i'm glad he never made one, or will because the prequels certainly do not live up to the much loved unmolested originals. By the way a fan in the audience at c3 asked him about willow 2 the movie, and he said he was talking to warwick davis about doing a television show, but he also said like a lot of things it may never come to fruition.

by the way does anyone on these boards think that star wars will turn around and be what it was before it was ruined, i've been thinking for sometime about moving on with my life since someone who i will not name has ruined one of the fondest pastimes of my childhood. And if the t.v. show is anything like ron moore's crap tastic botch job please get me a barf bag. PLus if he copied galactica he would only get sued by them just like he sued them for copying star wars back in the heyday of the late 70's. Besides the fact moore and braga and berman ruined the star trek franchise and ran it into the ground, so much so that patrick stewart refused to ever be picard again.

Am I the only one who doesn't think StarWars was ruined? Sure it's been a rocky road, but RUINED? I just don't see it.

I don't think it's been ruined from a purely objective standpoint. I think, however, it's ruined compared to what it once was. To use your rocky road analogy, if a smoothly paved road becomes horribly messed up, jagged, and split, it could be considered ruined. It's still possible to drive on it and use it but compared to the road it once was, it's ruined.

starkiller - I think the external space flight shots could well ending up resembling those from BSG - though from Lucas' recent work I don't think he could acheive the lofty levels reached by Moore and Co on the new BSG so far (relevent story to world around us, consistant plot, a character driven show, inspired casting, solid acting, SFX when needed, few story inconsistancies, a continuing arc, seperate events being woven together, etc etc)

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

honestly, being an absolute novice when it comes to filming technology, the one thing i DO trust Lucas pretty implicitly on is the tech end of things. so if he says he's got a way to shoot a weekly TV series that looks and feels great visually on a camcorder, more power to him.

and NOTHING could ruin star wars for me. i've got my OOT dvds, i'm good to go until they pry them from my cold, dead hands.

*sigh* OK here we go again...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I think the cartoon is an ok idea, but the live action no. He should quit while he is ahead. I dont want star wars to turn into star trek

Me too.

It would be cool if it used GFFA swear words like "Stang" and "Kriff" so as to avoid awkward "CURSE YOU"'s and still get by as a cartoon.

I think it has been ruined and a TV series isn't going to help any either. It'll look like that Sci Fi channel Robocop series did a couple years back, which I thought was crappy, but who knows.
"Drink the Kool-Aid. Wear blinders. Cover your ears. Because that's the only way you can totally enjoy Revenge of the Sith -- the final and most futile attempt from skilled producer, clumsy director and tin-eared writer George Lucas to create a prequel trilogy to match the myth-making spirit of the original Star Wars saga he unleashed twenty-eight years ago. Fan boys, of course, have convinced themselves otherwise. So have several critics, if you go by early reviews."
