SW: SHADOWS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC (3-in-1 Prequel Film) ** V2 cut AVI Release Now Available — Page 2

The V2 has been delayed a bit, but I'm still working on finishing this edit first before my other fanedit projects.

New Edit (possibly)
Since I now have an HD version of EP1, I'm now looking into the possiblity including the scenes of Qui-Gon's funeral and using the HD video to crop out and remove young Anakin from the shots.

Been a while since I've posted any updates - the V2 cut is nearly 99% finalized, with just a few odds and ends that need to be tweaked before it's compete.

Here's a new video preview of Qui-Gon's funeral sequence (without Anakin in the scene) and the transition from the EP1 chapter of the story to the EP2 chapter:

Nice.  I never watched V1 since there was no DVD version, but I'm looking forward to V2...

I'm a big fan of JasonN's prequel trilogy: Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, and The Dark Knight Rises, [The Black Knight Rises] so I wanted to give this 3 in 1 condensed version of the PT a shot, even though it received poor reviews on fanedit.  Well, I'm glad I did, because this version (v2) was thoroughly enjoyable.

Thoughts:

Episode I Chapter: I was very satisfied with JasonN's extreme reduction of Episode I, making it into a 20 minute action prelude.  (I was always a big fan of the old James Bond movies, where the pre-title sequence had Bond off on some other mission, unrelated to the movie proper).  And, nothing against Liam Neeson, but I like how his character is introduced and then killed off quickly, since he has nothing to do with the remainder of the story.  My only criticism of the Ep. I chapter would be that there is no introduction to the Gungans, so the viewer might not be sure who they are and why they're fighting against the invasion army (if watching this movie in a vacuum).

Episode II Chapter:  Excellent!  Introducing Anakin as an adult apprentice of Obi-Wan is a great choice.  On top of that, his introduction at the Jedi Council when he is given the mission to escort Padme to Naboo is simply a perfect context, since his love for and desire to save Padme will spell his eventual seduction to the dark side.  Brilliant!  I'm beginning to think JasonN is a mad genius of story editing.

On a technical note, there's one part of this chapter that appears to be a mistake or an unfinished edit.  When Anakin arrives at the Lars homestead on Tatooine there's some inserted dialogue of Anakin speaking Watto's language and subtitles for Owen and Cleigg Lars that are out of context.

Episode III Chapter: Excellent as well.  Also, the birth of Luke & Leia sequence, I think, is even better than JasonN's The Black Knight Rises, because we're told a girl is born, but don't get her name, so it works well in connection to the OT.

Overall, this is an extremely enjoyable edit if you want to watch the entire prequel storyline in 2.5 hours.  Some have criticized the pacing and music score as problematic, but it wasn't noticeable enough for me to hinder my enjoyment of this version.  If you suspend your disbelief, and enjoy the Episode I chapter solely as an action-packed movie intro, then I think you will be more than pleased with the rest of the film.

Any news on a DVD version release?

I think you mean The Black Knight Rises.
(unless Batman somehow made a surprise appearance in my edit that I wasn't aware of, lol)

The mpv and ac3 files themselves have been done for a while, I just really haven't had time to finish the DVD menus and burn a finalized DVD-9.
(maybe next week, when I'm able to finally FINALLY finish the V2s of TOTR and TBKR along with the DVD-9 release of Pandora)

Oops, my bad.  To be fair, I got it right further down in my post.

So how many editing projects you got going on Mr. JasonN?  Where do you find the time?

Im not registered on  fanedit.org so i cant post there.

I've downloaded SOTOR twice (Rapidshare)

but each time i extract with winrar (v3.93) it says:

...\starwars_sotor_v2.part14.rar: CRC failed in starwars_sotor_v2.avi. The file is corrupt

i'll try and download that file from megaupload

Final edit: the file on Megaupload is fine. Now im gonna watch it :) Yay!

You can never go home again, but i guess you can shop there.

Enjoy!  It just kind of sucks you in.  I only intended to test it out a few nights ago to see how my burn to disc went, but I ended up watching the whole thing.

Notes:
Originally based off a very rough cut of EP1 and EP2 by jra166, this fanedit was my first time working with the Star Wars Prequels and combined Episodes 1-3 into a single movie film which rewrote the story to have a major focus on Obi-Wan during his life in the Old Republic and a secondary focus on the young Jedi Anakin's fall to the Dark Side and rise as Darth Vader. Initially, I was not at all satisfied with how this edit turned out, which is what led me to work on the films individually and create my own fanedit trilogy of the Prequels instead. Much later on after learning new editing techniques and getting requests from several viewers, I decided to come back to the SOTOR edit and revise it for a V2 release, re-editing the fanedit into a movie about the past of the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi which I am much more satisfied with.

Major Edits/Changes
- Added a new "Star Wars" title crawl
- Cut and trimmed up the lightsaber duels throughout the film to reduce slow moments and increase tension/drama
- Cut and removed various redundant, excessive, childish, or otherwise "stupid" elements from the plot and characters

Episode 1 Cuts/Edits:
- Plot now focuses on Obi-Wan arriving on Naboo with his master Qui-Gon Jinn to aid in the Naboo Rebellion against the Trade Federation
- The Queen Amidala and Padme Amidala are now sisters (in other words, they are not the same character)
- NO YOUNG ANAKIN
- NO JAR JAR BINKS
- No visit to Tatooine or Pod Race
- While the Naboo Rebellion is taking place, the Queen has traveled to the Galactic Senate to remove the Trade Federation from her planet (being aided by Senator Palpatine)

Episode 2 Cuts/Edits:
- The Episode is now divided between 2 subplots:
1. The First story focusing on Obi-Wan investigating Queen Amidala's assassin and discovering the Clone army, Jango Fett, and the Separatist Rebellion
2. The second story focuses on Anakin, the beginning of his relationship with Padme, and the death of his mother
- Obi-Wan has no connection to Anakin Skywalker, nor is he Anakin's master until the beginning of Episode 3
- Anakin arrives on Tatooine only find his mother already dead and buried (no Sand People subplot)
- Owen is now Anakin's younger brother
- Boba Fett is NOT a clone of his father, Jango Fett
- Jango Fett's helmet now has a voice modulator

Episode 3 Cuts/Edits:
- Cut down the opening space battle
- Removed and edited nearly all of the Anakin/Padme reunion sequence (now they just embrace each other, followed by fading out to Anakin's nightmare)
- The subplots of "Jedis not being able to marry" and "Anakin keeping his marriage to Padme is a secret" are cut from the story - it is now known (and acceptable) that Padme is Anakin's wife and that Anakin is her child's father
- The "Jedi spying on Palpatine" subplot has been removed
- Added the deleted "Plot to Destroy the Jedi?" scene back into the film (which replaces a similar scene that occured between Mace and other Jedis)
- Trimmed the "Opera House" scenes to only be about Palpatine telling his story of Darth Plagious to Anakin
- Added the deleted "A Stirring in the Senate" scene back into the film
- Cut and re-edited the "Mace VS Palpatine" duel (along with the following "Anakin's choice" scenes) to remove redundant elements and increase the drama of the sequence
- Re-edited Anakin's encounter with the younglings into the rest of the "Order 66" scenes
- Added additional children screams to the audio during the hologram playback of the Anakin attacking the Jedis
- Completely removed the "Yoda VS Sidious" duel from the film - the final battle is now a single duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin
- Cut and re-edited the "Birth of the Twins/Darth Vader" sequence to remove overtly stupid plot elements
- Removed the scene of Padme naming the second twin Leia

sounds like u just destroyed the films. i'm srry, but the Prequels are find as they are. They don't need to be touched! Yes i agree there are inconsistencies and bad acting, but i saw episode one when i was eight and up til now, still think there works of art.

.... I hope this was intended as a joke post.

1. Unless there's a mass of people that are throwing all the film prints, DVDs, videos, and other medias of the SW Prequel films into a massive bonfire of Doom that I am unaware of, I can safely say that me creating a couple of fanedits most certainly does not destroy the original films.

2. Au contraire, mon frere - the Prequels most definitely need to be touched and worked on.

3. In terms of own personal preference, I do prefer my Prequel edit trilogy over the 3-in-1 SOTOR, but I think some people may find interest in a single film version that serves as a prequel story to the OT.

4. If you want to get technical, ALL films are artistic works.
The level of quality of the artwork, however, is always open to individual interpretation.

Yeah, way to destroy the films, JasonN.  By providing alternative versions that people interested in can watch and those disinterested in can simply disregard :)

I just got turned onto this whole fan-editing thing recently, after, of course, having heard about adywan's Revisited via the interwebs.  Now i'm hooked.  and I'm watching movies and wondering to myself, "how could this be improved by a fan-editor"?

With such a rich imaginary world, as Star Wars is, the possibilities are nearly endless regarding storyline and technical changes to the films, and every fan-editor brings something new and original to their particular edits.  If anything, it keeps the Star Wars universe new and exciting with every new edit, rather than stagnating over time at the risk of becoming outdated.

I personally enjoy JasonN's versions because they combine, in my opinion, an excellent mixture of subtle plot variations that work extremely well (i.e. Dooku as a rogue Jedi separatist) as well professionally executed cuts that reduce the more childish and annoying aspects of the Prequel Trilogy (i.e. Jar-Jar and young Anakin).

If either of these types of changes are not up your alley, and you'd rather stick to the versions you know, then simply don't watch a fan-edit and then post on a board that is intended to be forum for friendly (if heated) debate about differing artistic interpretations of Star Wars, and all films in general.  Or, if you are open minded enough to watch a fan-edit, but you thought it was sub-par for any reason, then simply state the reasons you thought that way, rather than throwing out a blanket term that someone "destroyed" the films.  It just comes off as narrow-minded and rather pointless.

Can you trust him?  No, but he has no love for the Empire, I can tell you that.

not joke posting. i agree that all films are artistic works. Still, its annoying to continuously hear, "The PT sucks" or "It's so inconsistent" i could go on but i think you get the point. i just find that its unfair to compare the PT to the OT as they are completly different movies from two different eras. We would be saying the same thing if it was backwards.

One thing i think we can all agree on though, is that AOTC is the worse star wars movie ever!
