The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released) — Page 19

Yeah: a few standardized screen caps included right in the FAQ post. Personally, for any new set I like to see:

(a) if the thing's anamorphic;
(b) what's up with Greedo's subs -- hard or soft, font, size, colour, accuracy, etc.;
(c) if the menus suck or not -- and what to look for when the disc's fired up, to be able to tell different versions apart; and
(d) some technical details, like sharpness, colour, blown-out whites, crushed blacks, noise, etc.

I think most of that could be distilled to just two or three caps for the first film, and maybe two for each other film. Seven screen caps -- OK, say a maximum of 10 -- to more or less define a set would be acceptable, wouldn't it?

Yeah, I could live with that, add the encoder used, and capture method and equipment (CLD-2950 LD player to a Flyvideo 9000SUX catpure card using Virtualdub etc.)

Now we are getting somewhere...

I think that summary should be the second post of any new release thread. The first post is the basic explanation, setting up the discussion about the project. The second post should be a bullet pointed summary like the sample above. It would travel with the topic and there would not be a need for a sticky. This also would allow us to talk about the original post and the tangents that arise during that topic discussion freely without messing up the vital info.

Is there a way to automatically insert a space for the summary in the forum software?

This is looking really useful and will save us all a lot of time from yelling at people who don't want to read for eight straight hours.

From there, used several programs to filter out the noise from the laserdisc. Then, encoded the video to DVD format with CinemaCraft Encoder SP. Finally, authored the DVD with DVDit PE and wrote it to a Ritek 2x DVD-R with a Pioneer DVR-104 drive using Nero.

Glitches / Errors : ESB has 4 seconds of blank screen before Leia welding footage (At 50m 31s). ROJ - on some DVD players there MAY be a slight stutter when a speeder bike explodes due to a bitrate jump.

That is awesome. I really wish one of the moderators could make a pinned thread that has info exactly like this for each OT preservation, PT edit, and bonus material disc made. I mean, am I the only one who would like to see something like this? It would take a lot of work, but like I said, I'd be happy to contribute as much as I am able.

Title : Row47 Original Trilogy DVDr Set - based on Cowclops / TR47 v1 Set

This version is exactly the same set as the Cowclops / TR47 v1 set, EXCEPT each disc in the trilogy now has a basic title screen, and that the 2 errors - 4 blank seconds in ESB before the Leia welding scene, and a possible stutter during a scene where a speeder bike explodes in ROJ due to a large bitrate jump, have been corrected.

This version was completed by RowMan.

If you notice an error or have something to add to the above description please post them below and they'll be edited in later. Many Thanks.

(1st off - I don't have this version - so this is cobbled from info throughout this thread - some of which I have no doubt I've misinterpretated or just got wrong. If anyone has the set and can come up with any missing or corrected info, then that'll be great. Many thanks to Rikter, agr1170, grinder, rowman, jzilli, 88keyz and everyone for posting info on the sets.

Rikter started this thread, so the best way to get the updated summary info in the right place is to have him edit his first post. The stuff oojason has put here can be copied to the first post of the thread, so that all the current info is there. That works wonders at places like doom9. Much less intimidating for people new to a huge thread.

Hell, it's even better for the oldtimers in a thread, too: if I were a noob, I wouldn't bother reading more than about 5 pages; I'd just post my question, get yelled at, and have someone either answer it or point me directly where to go.

Yep - I'm planning on REVAMPING the whole front page with all new info ONCE I get the set - THANKS for the OFFERS for the set I look forward to getting these uploaded - I will be uploading the FIRST 3 discs IN order and one after the other and then the extras STAGGERED between Superman RIC and some other NONE Star Wars stuff - I also plan on sharing these with THE DARK ONE to be posted on the newsgroups if he's down for it.

Like I said in the past - I WILL be GIVING away about ten sets of the "3 DISC set" TO REGISTERED SEEDERS and UPLOADERS on MYSPLEEN.NET and If I can find a MEMEBER or UPLOADER from another torrent site to also upload the set THAT would be SWEET - SO if you can upload on another site send me the sites URL and reg info so you can then PM me from that site also -

The goal is to have 5 seeds on MYSPLEEN and 4 seeds on another + 1 more uploader on the NEWSGROUPS (The Dark One - I hope) once I upload the set with help form OOJASONS info for the NFO's + COVERS by myself and any others that wish to contribute to the COWCLOPS V.2 set

I will also delete the old COWCLOPS V.1 (tr47) set from MYSPLEEN and I ask that if your seeding it to please DROP the torrent and DELETE the DVD from your HD's - The V.2 set one is a comin'!!!!

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL ME to request a set for FREE - I will only take PM's AT MYSPLEEN.NET for this - DEAL?

AGAIN I DO NOT YET HAVE it and I will burn off 10 copies OR if you want to forward me a set to PASS on to another uploader THAT would BE awesome (this will take 30 discs and I want to use SONY DVD+/-R made by TAIYO YUDEN burned at 4x for the uploaders )

AGAIN I thank you all for your support!!!!!!

- THESE DVD's will be released in about 2 weeks or LESS and the world will then enjoy them...

- at least till the XO Project is done!

For Cowclops v2:

Disc Sizes : ANH 4.18gb, ESB 4.22gb, ROJ 4.30gb

I would give you video & audio bitrates, but I am not positive how to do this for DVDs. I can help if you let me know what to do

cheers for the info jzili

AVIcodec - a small 434k program will tell you all the info on the discs regarding bitrate - audio and visual - it is available free to download here - http://avicodec.duby.info/

I'm not sure what other programs does this...

I just received my set and I will gladly seed it when you get it on MYSPLEEN Rik.

I watched "A New Hope" with my 6 year old daughter. Nice menus, animated chapter menus, picture and sound quality are good but after further viewing versus V1 on different setups I got to say I like V1 better, the picture quality looks better. Now I am not saying V2 is not good, it is a good quality set, thats my own opinion. Thanks to Cowclops and TR47 for doing these.

I got the 7 disc set (actually 8 counting the CDR of covers). The extras discs are LOADED to the brim with all the goodies, even some rare stuff I had not seen before. I can list the extras if needed.

I wonder if it´s on the cards to send copies of the new Cowclops DVD´s to Prillaman, who has done those extensive and great reviews of available Star Wars bootlegs on his site www.prillaman.net ? Also it would be interesting to hear some reviews from peepz who have received the set. It´s all about the comparison...

Ask and you shall receive. Played back and captured using InterVideo WinDVD7 and compressed to JPG format using PicPress from Pegasus Imaging.

With the original subs from the laserdisc (non-removable)

With the original subs from the laserdisc (non-removable) and the Cowclops created subs (removable)

http://home.cogeco.ca/~pcsales/anh_dvdsubs.jpg

I only have a standard TV so I watch them with the Cowclops subs turned off.

[Off Topic]PicPress is THE best JPG compressor ever for both size and quality, blows Photoshop away. Turned these 852x480 BMP files into 40-50KB JPG files on its highest quality setting, the same files compressed using PhotoShop are twice the size and don't look as sharp or as detailed as the ones saved using PicPress. The program has long been removed from the Pegasus website but the free trial version can still be downloaded from this link. Program has since been replaced with The JPEG Wizard v2 and its well worth the USD$29 asking price.[/Off Topic]

Nope, I guarantee you they're not. If you zoom in on the pictures you will see less jaggies in the new version but based on the screen caps overall quality appears to be better in the original release. Keep in mind though that a single frame capture is not a good measure of picture quality, you really need to compare video clips not screen caps. Trust me this new transfer is at least of equal quality and in many cases better, especially where there was compression artifacts in the original release there are almost none in the new release. In any case though don't throw away those original TR-47 releases just yet, especially if you own a standard television. My main gripe about this new release is that the black bars at the top and bottom of the picture aren't quite as black as the ones generated by my DVD player so I can see the seperation point, though if you own a widescreen set this won't be an issue.

Wow, I hope those screenshots aren't representative of the actual product because v1 definitely looks better than v2 in those shots.
