I am fringe. I’ve never pretended not to be fringe. I’d correct somebody if they claimed I wasn’t fringe. What is it that I think that is different from what I say? Tell me, please, I’m curious. You’re so full of shit, it’s fucking astounding.

I think Trump supporters are morons so I say they’re morons. I think centrism is awful so I say it’s awful. I think conservatism is awful so I say it’s awful. I say what I what I believe. You’re the one that doesn’t do that. Don’t project your insecurities on to me. That won’t work.

You know it’s funny, we started out like this, Helen and I. We had blank walls, we hung things, we picked out tile together. Then you know what happens? 6 years later, you find yourself singing Surrey with a Fringe on Top IN FRONT OF IRA!

I’m sure I’ll regret posting this, and therefore I won’t respond to follow-ups, but I like how Susan Collins patted Dr. Ford on the head with one hand while repeatedly stabbing her (and every other sexual assault survivor, male or female) in the back with a knife in the other hand.

Class act. Fits right in with her angry male Republican counterparts, not to mention the absolutely monstrous thing the Republican party has become. I wonder how she sleeps at night.

Yeah. Moderation and compromise is for chumps.

When one side is in the right, compromise is just as bad as being wrong. See: climate change.

Edit: This makes it seem like I think politics is about being “right,” it isn’t. I’m on mobile so I hope my meaning is clear enough. The answer is not always in the middle.

Agree settling on a middle ground isn’t inherently virtuous, as reasonable as it may appear. There is some value though, else we fight to the death, politically speaking.

I think it’s extremely rare that one side is right on any issue. Climate change is one of those rare examples. But generally I think the best solutions are the ones where neither extreme walks away happy. Letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, resulting in stalemate is far less productive than a compromise even in which one who is “right” has to make a concession.

Even if we could all agree that climate change exists and humans are the main contributing factor, I’m not confident either side’s solution to combat it would be one that best balances the interests of both the people and the environment.

A report by the Trump administration admits that climate change is real and that it will be catastrophic by the end of this century. However, rather than using that as a basis for action, they are using it as a basis for inaction, under the assumption that to do anything would be futile:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/trump-administration-sees-a-7-degree-rise-in-global-temperatures-by-2100/2018/09/27/b9c6fada-bb45-11e8-bdc0-90f81cc58c5d_story.html?utm_term=.0833af276ce0

Specifically, they are using it as justification for rescinding emission standards! This was also reported by NPR a couple of weeks ago. Appalling.

None of them are going to be able to enjoy sitting in a restaurant in public, or feel at ease in an elevator when a random woman in the corner is staring at them for a very long, long, time.

I’m sure Trumpy will do something. Build seawalls around his golf courses.

Though I loathe saying it, things like this make me think nothing short of an immediate, significant drop in the human population’s going to be enough to save the planet from global warming, and only a global plague’s going to accomplish that.

^I kind of agree , and also see the point that George Carlin used to make that the Earth has survived far worse than us (humans) and it will eventually shake us all off like a bad case of fleas . The Earth just wanted plastic . It didn’t know how to make it so it created us , and now it has plastic so our purpose has been served . so it will soon just be Earth +plastic .

After being here for several years, it continues to feel that way. There are a few bright spots, mostly the museums.

In terms of self-obsessed naked careerism, I’ve heard DC described as LA for ugly people.

Maybe true. At any gathering of political types, the constant first question is “what do you do?” And either they think you can do something for them or they keep a smile frozen on their face until they can get away to ask it of someone else. As one might expect the low level Hill staffers are among the worst offenders. Little room is made for sincerity or sympathy, though I have known people of generous spirit, you just can’t trust how far it will go.

At this point, I’ve accepted that nothing substantial will ever be done about climate change and we’ll just have to live with the consequences.

A sobering read, and unfortunately it seems you’re correct mate.

Hopefully some good could come out of this below - yet I imagine politicians may just be give lip service (or small concessions/promises - later watered down…) rather than genuine concerted effort to address the issues:-

’‘We need some fire’: climate change activists issue call to arms for voters…'

Campaigners say more than 15m people who care about the environment did not vote in the 2014 midterms – can they create a ‘green wave’ this November?

WTF USA Today?

I mean, I guess they just wanted the ad revenue from having both the op-ed and the rebuttal. Or the Op-Ed process is looser than I thought. Still doesn’t sit right to have a sitting president write an op-ed to slam his political opponents.

Author
Time

They took the unusual step of fact checking an opinion piece, which would seem to counterbalance the objection.

‘Say what you want…and then we’ll tell you why you’re a fool and/or liar,’ looks more objectionable from the standpoint of Trump’s supporters.
