Yeah I watched his run just a couple of years ago and it was far more fantastic than I remembered.

Rage. The BBC blatantly disrespects Peter Capaldi, who was an awesome Doctor burdened by terrible stories.

The BBC wrote that? Reads like a Facebook post by a fan.

Wow, that would be like an article on the official Star Wars site saying something negative about the prequels.

Whoa, people don’t love Capaldi? I’ll concur that the writing for his seasons could be uneven (though there are still plenty of great episodes). But as for Capaldi himself? He’s very near to trumping Tennant as my favorite actor to play the Doctor!

What a lousy low blow by the BBC.

That piece was penned by a fellow who writes an entertainment column for the BBC website. While not an official statement by the BBC, I agree it was in poor taste.

I’ve watched the premier twice today. LOVE Jodie as the Doctor. I like her more serious take. The production value and writing are at the top of their game. A bit more adult than years past and definitely more realistically cerebral as far as adult interaction goes.

I haven’t been this excited and engaged about The Doctor in years. Side note; I am loving Mandip Gill. I’m mesmerized by her. So glad she’s part of this.

Just watched the premiere. It was pretty good.

I’ll have more to say on it later when being sick isn’t frying my brain, I’m sure.

Just watched the premiere. Enjoyed it a lot – it seemed like classic Who. Whitaker’s doctor seemed closest to Tenant’s in style, it looked like she even copied some of his mannerisms. I might prefer it a bit less frenetic, and more relaxed Tom Baker-style. But these days it seems frenetic is the order of the day. But her character has nice potential, for a first episode it was encouraging.

The story and writing were excellent, and the villain was very much in the spirit of Who villains. It didn’t devolve into overly-dramatic pablum, just stuck with quirky sci-fy. That’s a big plus in my book.

Didn’t like the color palette at all. Too much overblown yellows. I don’t understand why they always tinker with the color so much until it becomes unrealistic and hard on the eyes.

And for Warbler, I didn’t notice even the slightest pandering to feminism. Not even one line. It was just a Who story.

The constant cutaways, ads, and extras were extremely annoying. I’m glad I was able to fast-forward through them.

My favorite line – “I’m good at building things… probably.”

I agree, not preachy at all and back to a classic Who one-of adventure. I’d really grown tired of the convoluted Moffat-written six episode arcs of saving the existence of the universe.

I’m hungry for a fried egg sandwich.

I thought the episode boring, especially the first half. I watched this episode to see if it would renew my interest. I don’t know if she is frenetic, more serious, as we didn’t get too much screen time. The writing was too heavy on needless exposition. The Doctor’s appearance was fairly limited and seemed crafted to hit on the bullet points of the Doctor’s modern characterization more than anything.

I rolled my eyes at the Doctor’s knife PSA.

What I saw of this Doctor didn’t annoy me but I’d have to see more about what direction they’re going in.

There was something nice about the episode from a personal perspective. A friend died yesterday - she would have been 34 today - and I think she would have liked this episode. The Doctor’s speech at the end of the episode following the funeral felt almost by design.

The blue elephant in the room.

Too much overblown yellows.

It’s the Davies Era all over again.

A friend died yesterday - she would have been 34 today

My condolences.

‘Doctor Who: Jodie Whittaker’s debut is most watched launch for 10 years’…

An average of 8.2m tuned in to watch actor as first female Doctor, with peak of 9m and audience share of 40.1%

I really enjoyed it, and was left wanting to watch the next episode after the credits finished rolling there and then. Thought it was a great introduction to the new Doctor, a good well-written and solid story - in a ‘villain of the week format’, decent and promising background cast, nicely executed CGI/effects, with some quality humour, peril, suspense and emotional spots all hitting the right notes. An all-round enjoyable watch for me.

For a new writing team and cast it was an impressive and intriguing start, with lots of potential - especially so from Jodie Whittaker.

Sweet to hear some nothern accents - and they made Sheffield look half decent too 😃

I really liked the accents too.

Quick question… I don’t know if it was the same everywhere, but where I was there were SO many interruptions, ads, interviews, sneak previews, etc., that there were times when I wasn’t entirely sure if I was watching the show or something else. This was particularly the case at the very end, where the snippets of the show were so short and so interrupted that I wasn’t sure exactly what happened, and whether or not I missed something before the credits rolled.

So, what exactly was the final scene? Yes I know that would be spoiler - so perhaps someone can figure out how to hide it or put it in a strategically-placed spoiler alert? Thanks.

The final scene was of them materializing in the middle of space.

Yeah, the BBC America treatment of the show is exactly why I don’t feel bad pirating it on air day and then buying the episode on Amazon the next day.

Simulcast my ass.

The writing was too heavy on needless exposition.

New doctor, new showrunner, new creative team tends to bring in a new audience.

Well, that was the best episode I’ve seen in a very, very long time. Character arcs that make sense, no big speeches, a menacing villain with real stakes, and, most noticeably, an actual atmosphere.

It was coherent too!

This just makes me even more pissed at Moffat for not leaving with Smith, and wasting Capaldi’s entire tenure. A great Doctor with little to no great stories to match.

I don’t know where you are in the world, but here in the States is was a very interrupted affair also. Like you, I wasn’t always sure if it was the show or another piece inserted between the commercials. Plus we didn’t even get the end credit sequence. After the last scene it went right to an interview session with four people I dont know.

Full disclosure, by the time I went to bed late last night, I’d seen it three times. It was the same each time, except for the commercial breaks where they inserted a lot of clips of Jodie at NY Comic Con. Those were interesting, but the show was still a mess of interruptions and no end credits.

In addition to the end credits, we didn’t even get a title sequence!

And one of those four people was Wil Wheaton.

Nobody got a title sequence for the first episode. It was announced a week or two ago that it wouldn’t appear until episode 2.

Indeed. Though BBCA lacked the end credits as well. I later watched the digital version, and the theme (at least over the credits) is quite good. Has a lot in common with the 60s version’s melody (and the full version of it), but with modern heavy drums.
