A thread for any news articles on the Galaxy Far Far Away that may not have sufficient interest for their own individual threads.

When posting news please give a link to the article / source - thank you. Posting up a piece of news in here doesn’t mean it cannot later have a thread up on the main boards.

And feel free to post up news/events of a more regional type if you wish; local conventions, charity events, or art shows etc…

No gossip or unsubstantiated rumours from dubious sources; ie, no Mike Zeroh, Making Star Wars, TFM, or Supershadow types.

Also of interest may be…

Original Trilogy news & articles thread - online pieces on the OT films, the cast and crew - in ‘Original Trilogy Discussion’

A ‘Rumour and News’ thread for reported new Star Wars films and tv series - in ‘Beyond the Original Trilogy’

Disney+ streaming platform : Star Wars content & various other info - in ‘General Star Wars Discussion’

Upcoming Star Wars Release Schedule - in ‘General Star Wars Discussion’

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

‘Disney’s streaming service won’t include Star Wars movies released before 2019’…

‘Disney’s streaming service won’t have many of the recent Star Wars and Marvel movies’…

https://qz.com/1351364/disneys-streaming-service-wont-have-recent-star-wars-and-marvel-movies/

A saturated streaming market already (all adding up $/£-wise) - and without the main films I’ll likely be giving Disney’s forthcoming streaming service a miss.

yeah , I am hoping the Star Wars content they get around to streaming will have a blu ray release , personally , I think the streaming model is going to implode eventually , I mean , I already pay for cable , netflix and an internet connection and can’t afford any more . It seems like every big studio is starting up these streaming services now .

I agree. I already have physical media for the few Star Wars films that interest me. According to both the articles, with a lot of their films already on other networks, they don’t seem to have much to offer. With regard to Star Wars, only things that haven’t been made yet is a tough sell. His quality over quantity comment as a business model sounds like spin.

Even though Iger says they’ll be cheaper than Netflix, there is no way that price doesn’t start creeping up soon after. If they succeed in buying their own films back from Netflix and Starz, that jump will be substantial.

I’ve got enough buddies who are going to want to see the new Star Wars content that we’ll probably end up splitting a subscription three or four ways. I have zero interest in any of the non-SW content this thing is likely to have, so I may even just cancel my subscription in the off months with no new SW releases.

I assume that’s all due to current contracts and at some point those contracts will expire, thus allowing them to add all the Marvel and Star Wars stuff to their service.

I seem to recall hearing someone say they read that somewhere they didn’t remember, so it’s basically confirmed that’s it.

Disney’s going to over time (depending) pull everything that’s theirs off of other platforms and put it on their own. Once they own Fox, all of that will only be on Disney’s too. If it’s not worth subscribing to at first, it most likely will be shortly thereafter.

Disney has a huge film/tv library to exploit which they’ve sadly neglected on physical media in recent years. Cartoon fans might pony up if every short cartoon ever made by the studio was available for streaming.

Namby-pamby “you’ll-never-see-Song-of-the-Song-released-again-bitches” Disney release an R-rated cut of one of their animated films? HAH!

You can’t sell limited editions and time releases on a streaming platform.

You can’t sell limited time releases, but you can certainly do them and enforce it easily. Hell, streaming might encourage Disney’s “in the vault”/rotating slate of availability model even more strongly than physical releases did. Make a big ad push for new subscribers every time they “generously” bring something popular “out of the vault” and onto the streaming service.

How can it be a R rated cut when the edits were made before it was ever submitted to the MPAA? And having seen cels of what was cut, it would have likely received a PG-13 at most back in 1985. That Disney put out a PG rated animated film ruffled the usual suspects who think all animation should be kiddie fluff at the time anyway.

I admit, I was going off of hearsay.

wow , just noticed that on the section of the site that says ,create a work of art , there is a cropped version of the Tom Jung theatrical poster of 77 Star Wars where they altered the Image of Vader .strange .

Vader doesn’t appear altered at all in that image to me…

Huh… nice catch 😃 (I’m off to the opticians)

Edit : Seems on the 40th anniversary content on the SWcom site they use the original artwork…

lol…something just looked off to me about it . the one on the official site looks more like Vader in Empire now , like the scene where he is reaching out to Luke as the Executor is chasing the falcon near the end of the film . His helmet was more of a matte finish in A New Hope , It’s like they are trying to make it glossy like the other OT films

now I am curious as to whether Tom Jung reworked it or someone revised it .also, the Imgur uploader listed Drew Struzan as the artist of episode 7 poster , he did a poster for it as a convention exclusive , but not the official one , though it mimics his style . I will never understand why they did not have him do it and would love to hear more on it .
