Sucks.

We have a forum for such things.

I’m pretty sure, based on past responses, it would be a waste of time.

Because there have been no updates & improvements of late, right?

Though I seem to recall Jay has seemingly addressed a lot of issues in there, yes?

I’m pretty sure his feedback to our Markdown Sucks feedback was “too bad get used to it.”

Maybe he also said an advanced editor was coming some day, so in that case it would render the Markdown Sucks complaint moot, but until that time, Markdown Sucks. This is the only forum I’ve ever been on that uses it. And so to be clear, the reason Markdown Sucks is not because it’s Markdown (which Sucks), but because this is the only site using it. And so I have to use completely different tags to make shit work. And it’s pretty aggravating to be on another site and put ![] into a post and get ![] back instead of an image. Or to be here and put [img][/img] and get [img][/img] back instead of an image. And so I have to think to myself, “Ok, right now I’m at OT.com, so I have to use ![] instead of [img][/img].” And that sucks.

Any improvements recently made are independent of this issue. They’re also independent of the unread posts feature, which is also on every other forum I’ve ever used, and a feature I’ve been asking for over nine years now.

Vive la difference 😃

I like that this site is somewhat unique in comparison to many other forums out there (whose similarity looks a bit bland after a while) - for me it’s sort of a representation of the members here - we’re all a little different on here than most people found on other many sci-fi or even SW forums around 😉

Having to use a different code for embedding images and the like? I’m okay with it - a reminder that there are alternatives out there and not everything has to be done ‘this way’.

Site upgrades, back-ups and improvements - as well as the general running of the place - takes it’s toll and eats up considerable time and effort; not withstanding the unseen issues and bugs with applying updates.

I’m a bit out of the loop on programming, yet think this still applies today…

It’s likely why upgrades and the like are done in batches - with a fair amount of time given inbetween changes to give time to find any issues that occur (and it can take a fair amount of time before they are noticed or detected - and on occasions they’ll go unnoticed until they affect another upgrade or change). Even if there was an error somewhere in the code - it still has to be located, and a fix found and issued.

Yes, 9 years for that ‘unread posts’ feature is quite a long time - yet it’s not fundamental to the function of the site, and whilst it may be of use for some, we have managed without it for 9 years. It is, though, apparently on the list of things to do.

For over 15 years Jay has been maintaining the site (in whatever format) - pretty much on his todd and at considerable cost - outside of time and commitment to family, friends, work, social life, other interests, sitting in a dark room rocking backwards and forwards, etc.

That the feedback ‘Markdown Sucks’ earnt a reply of something along the lines of “too bad get used to it.” is likely just the New Yorker way of saying ‘it isn’t going to change anytime soon’ - though without the stereotypical New Yorker swear words usually expected in such retorts 😉

That’s just my uninformed two-penneth on it.

I’m kinda done being grateful for all of Jay’s sacrifices. Life would go on without this place.

I think you’re inferring something different from what I posted.

I’m seeing you have pop at some of us mods across the site - I’d suggest you reconsider this - and stop.

If you have an issue with any of us then PM us and attempt to address it. Don’t continue this across the site - and take threads further off-topic - something of which (taking threads off-topic) you have been previously and repeatedly asked not to do, and later warned for.

And this place would go on quite comfortably without you, so feel free to gtfo with all due haste if your ego can handle not being the center of attention for more than 5 minutes.

You threaten to leave threads when you don’t like the way they’re going, then come back just to complain more. You talk about how you’d probably be better off if you didn’t post here anymore, and yet here you are.

Your whining is old and tired. Quit bitching or leave.

dahmage or the markdown posts? 😉

I don’t think there’ll be a filter for the markdown posts mate - though I usually delete them when I come across any.

Hopefully there are a fair fewer markdown syntax posts than before.

Please feel free to point out any still on the site and I’ll do my best to get around to deleting them (other than the markdown posts in this thread 😉 )

Aha!
A dedicated Markdown thread.
How does one underline in Markdown?
Tried <U> - [U] - __ - <span=“underline”>
If you know, please show me the way.

Bummer, dude.
At least I won’t keep trying one code after another.
Thanks.

Another markdown question.
Is there something similar to HIDE - SPOILER - NSFW ?
Or code to minimize a large wall of text.
Thanks.

^ Spoiler:-

The ‘How do I do this?’ on the OriginalTrilogy.com - some info & answers to members’ queries thread may be of some assistance mate in this case mate - especially the ‘How to post a ‘spoiler’ on this site…’ section 😃

For longer walls of text type posts too…

Such as the text below, for example:-

Many people on here just like to chat Star Wars… whether that’s mainly the Original Trilogy (and also the copious continuing changes made to it over the years), or the Prequel & Sequel Trilogies, the Standalone Stories, various animated tv series, The Holiday Special (shudders), the Ewok films, literature, comics, art, soundtracks & audio, collecting, gaming, and the future of the ‘Galaxy Far Far Away’ - or members who just talk about life in general in the Off Topic sections.

A fair few people join here for a particular the Preservation Project, Fan Edit, documentary, blu ray or dvd cover etc. We ask that those who do… also have a look around; see if there are other Projects, Edits or works of interest to your liking. To give the Star Wars discussion threads a read through, or those in the Off Topic sections. To have a think about becoming a part of the community here; and consider not becoming a one-time poster… asking for a link to a project and to never be seen again.

^ If you also quote the above post you can see how it was done - a lot of ‘>>’ used at the start of each paragraph for where you wish to use lines of text - and also for paragraph spaces too 😃

I like markdown.

I do too.

Though I don’t like the accidental markdown posts that sometimes occur on here. Credit to the mods for recently attempting to rid us of this plague 😃

Can we use this thread to report any accidental markdown posts we see on site? (as there is with the ‘spam reporting’ thread)

To assist them in the great Jedi markdown purge?

If so, I nominate this markdown post - https://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/1383044
