It may be worth PM’ing Swazzy and asking him if he’s still working on the project - or if he has any useful info or resources etc if he isn’t?

Either way, good luck with it 😃

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Here are some screenshots from my version:

Forgive my laziness, it’s still a project I always hoped to see completed and I wish a true 35mm scan had found its way online by now.

One trustworthy resource I’ve found is the splitscreen of a storyboard bonus feature, on one of the older DVD’s. This is sourced from the original film master, and not the 2K re-render that has since replaced it:

Well, I already finished version 1, but I’ll keep that source in mind for version 2. I’m uploading a restoration of the teaser trailer right now.

Also, no need to feel lazy Swazzy. I wouldn’t have attempted a version of the project without you inspiring me. All credit goes to you for the idea, I just wanted to try it out. 😃

The best color reference is the THX Deluxe CAV Laserdisc, which uses a film based master as opposed to the DVD digital master also used by the Blu-ray.

Upon reviewing version 1 on several different screens in my house, I have found numerous problems. The color doesn’t quite match the laserdisc or the trailers and I made it a little too dark. I am beginning work on version 2 right now, and the release is postponed.

Hopefully I’ll at least have an MOV done later today, and the blu ray will be made ASAP. Since it took a LONG time to redo those trailers, I’m not going to do them again with version 2, so the trailers won’t necessarily reflect how the release will look.

Again, huge thanks to Swazzy for his help and the initial idea.

That is closer to how I remember the film, but the more work you put into this, the better. Will you also reinstate the original Disney castle? The Blu-ray took it out.

Looks great! I really loved the look of this in the theater, and like many, I’m quite disappointed in the Blu-ray. Keep up the good work. 😃

What can you get a Wookiee for (Life Day) Christmas when he already owns a comb?

Here’s a clip from the project. Please note that the grain does not show up well on youtube.

I’m working on the blu ray right now and I’ll hopefully have it available sometime tomorrow. The blu ray will include both a 35MM Recreation with added film grain as well as the raw color correction with no grain. Both versions have the original Disney Castle logo from back in the day. Again, a huge thanks to Swazzy for coming up with the project. In fact, I’m not counting this as the official restoration. He will hopefully release his version someday and I guarantee it will be worlds better than mine.

The screenshots aren’t final. Still Tweaking.

Here is the view-master frame of that scene.

I think it needs a little more work. Perhaps try fiddling with contrast?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I’m going to work on it more tonight. 😃

I recently acquired a handful of 35mm cells of the movie. I plan on posting them here if anyone is interested, along with using them to make a more accurate color match.

It doesn’t hurt to offer help, but it always hurts to disregard those that do.
