^ Pleasing to see and hopefully there’ll be more to come.

A similar thing has occurred with the Labour Party in the UK - a once proud leftist party that chased the central/floating/business vote for so long… it lost it almost became detached from it’s roots and it’s traditional support (many of whom left or became disillusioned) - and lost ground in doing so.

Now things in the Party are considerably different (with the Party being re-structured to give average people a larger say in how the Party is run) - and the last election, where many analysts and pundits thought Labour would be almost wiped out, actually came close to defeating the Tories. With more young and disaffected people joining Labour all the time… whilst the Tories resort to clinging to power with £b bribes with some unsavoury characters from Northern Ireland on a power-grab - people see that - and won’t likely forget it… let alone the uncertainly and lack of plan for Brexit and post-Brexit deals, Grenfell, NHS and so on…

Back to the US…

I hope this (and hopefully other similar results) can be a catalyst for the Democrats - right now I don’t know who your leader is, what the Party is standing for, what they are calling up Trump and Republicans on, what their plan is - how they plan to defeat Trump… as the news cycle seems to be dominated by Trump and the circus he has created. As a Brit, that’s not a problem here in the UK - though I hope this view isn’t representative of what is actually happening in the US.

Well done Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

I don’t understand.

Frink occasionally mocks conservatives/Republicans who rationalize Trump’s victory because at least we get judges we like. The implication is “but judges” is a weaksauce excuse for Trump.

I don’t totally disagree but clearly judges are a big deal.

Either that or it was a typo and I left out the second “t.” (I hope DE offers no insight on that.)

This country is about to get demonstrably worse, yet again. Wonderful.

You mean to tell me that Reps would’ve gotten their right-wing judge anyway even if they didn’t force Obama to not pick one? And now they’re going to have two? Fuuuuuuuck off.

Just remember, Democrats are the obstructionists. And they’re weak. And they all like it when hookers piss on them.

HUGE win for progressives against corporate democrats. A 10-year representative got beaten by a Democratic Socialist. I’m really excited by this trend. Similar candidates are getting selected even in conservative states like Nebraska.

Great to hear. Genuinely surprising, too. I was convinced that she stood no chance. If she wins the general, does that mean we can finally put the “Democrats need to go right to win” meme to bed?

In other news, California’s housing crisis is just as absurd as ever.

He’ll be 82 next month and two years is a long time at that age. And even though he’s typically seen as the swing vote, he is a Republican. Remaining until after the November elections, which could turn some congressional seats blue, would mean giving the Democrats a shot at nominating someone who could continue to serve as that swing vote.

What should be more worrisome is that the two oldest remaining justices, Ginsburg and Breyer, are both liberal. If Trump sees a full 8 years in office, he might end up nominating their replacements as well.

So glad I decided to decline a job offer in SF back in 2012.

It’s a “weaksauce” excuse because the judges that conservatives want are horrible. They’re typically family-values, police state, corporate piles of shit.

I doubt that’ll happen. Trump has never had an approval rating above 50%. Even if he does win, he’s an old, obese man that will likely die any day now.

Well if that’s the kind of thing a conservative likes, that sounds like a pretty good excuse. I take Frink’s phrasing to mean that even if you like those judges that isn’t a good enough excuse for Trump.

I think many conservatives will rethink their support of a conservative court once they see how certain issues are decided. When it comes to privacy issues especially the libertarian-minded conservatives won’t always be pleased.

As they say, “Darkness rises and Light to meet it”.

There are no libertarian-minded rightwingers in our federal government. It was the rightwingers on the Supreme Court that dissented on the ruling against fascist police officers that don’t want to have warrants to spy on people’s phones. If you’re a “libertarian-minded conservative” and you support rightwing judges then you are a total hypocrite.

Lucky for me I don’t have that conflict 😉

I don’t know, you seem to be really defensive of the people that do want these rightwing judges.

I don’t know why you get that sense. I’m pretty pleased about getting another conservative justice.
