Star Wars Episode VII, VIII, IX George Lucas original story outline, scripts, treatments or his ideas — Page 2

So Lucas has apparently made some statements about his ideas for the sequels:

Pretty interesting though I honestly don’t think he would have handled it very well had he made it himself. It’d be cool to see them explore the Whills more in depth in the future, though.

Makes you wonder what those treatments looked like. By now we actually do have a fair share of info from the “Art of” books mainly, with a decent number of elements making it into TFA and TLJ. I’d be somewhat surprised if anything works its way into IX at this point though, it seems like they’re now possibly too far removed from what he conceived. Just another reason to hope for a comprehensive “Making of” book at some point.

that is very interesting. It is a cool concept, but you are probably right that he would have handled it poorly (but who can say with certainty?). I am sure his treatments were barely longer than those tweets.

Lucas is an ideas man. I think Disney could have put him in control of the Lucasfilm along with Kathleen Kennedy. Kennedy could have said no to Lucas’s crazy ideas, but keep the good ones. Kasden would help with the dialogue. Each installment would have a new director who helps express Lucas’s vision while adding touches of their own.

If Lucas wanted to continue running Lucasfilm, he wouldn’t have sold it to Disney. He didn’t need to money.

Lucas was tired of fans criticizing everything he does. If the prequels had been well received, he would have made a ST (he had finished raising a family, the reason he quit after 1983). While I disagree with the special editions and the overall enjoyment of PT, I can imagine it must be annoying to have people complaining about changing something you created in the first place.

Yeah we sure have seen that with Leia’s flying sequence and Rey learning the jedi mind trick in the blinck of an eye…

Please explain this (your) perceived responsibility that Kennedy has, that should use her title as President Of Lucasfilm, to overrule the writers and directors of these films - and remove certain scenes you didn’t like, or agree with - or haven’t understood (this especially so with the learning of the Jedi mind trick).

And then explain what context it is to this thread.

If you don’t think Kennedy is a very good President explain why, if you don’t think she’d be a be a good co-lead with Lucas in an imaginary situation where they are both at the head of Lucasfilm and she and George bounce ideas off each other etc, then say why.

Jason, I would reply to all of your queries but I feel you should ask them first to OutboundFlight, to whom I was replying to his “Kennedy could have said no to Lucas’s crazy ideas, but keep the good ones.” statement. Given the 4 SW movies created under Kennedy (where crazy weird ideas made their way into the final products in spite of Kennedy producing), I’ve got enough proof that this very statement is wrong. Then ask OutboundFlight this question:

If you do think Kennedy is a very good President explain why, if you do think she’d be a be a good co-lead with Lucas in an imaginary situation where they are both at the head of Lucasfilm and she and George bounce ideas off each other etc, then say why.

I would add that the only guy who could challenge Lucas is, to my knowledge, Gary Kurtz. Not even Spielberg can challenge Lucas. But Kurtz did that on 3 movies he produced for Lucas.

That didn’t last, though. He only produced the first two before creative differences drove him away from the third. He couldn’t change Lucas’s mind, so he walked away.

There are people on the internet, including some here, who actually believe she makes every single decision on these movies and therefore is to blame for every single thing they don’t like.

There was a rumor recently that she was being fired because of Solo and these people had so much fun…for a bit.

The fact is that I never said that. That’s why I won’t reply to Jason, because my message is clear enough. But according to the commentary track of TLJ it seems the Leia scene is something Kennedy wanted so much.

(some people here seem to believe on the contrary that a producer just pays the bills on a set…)

According to the commentary, Kennedy suggested that we see Leia use the force, and what’s in the movie is what Rian created and saw fit.

Plus it’s a great scene so…

You just replied to Jason but ok. I don’t recall that but it’s certainly possible. Regardless, there are people that believe everything they don’t like is due to Kennedy making changes. You may say you aren’t one of those people but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Or that there aren’t a lot of them.

(some people here seem to believe on the contrary that a producer just pays the bills on a set…)

Not all producers (or executive producers) are the same. But regardless it’s ridiculous to think, as certain people do, that Kennedy is responsible for everything they hate.

Just to be sure of something: each time someone makes even a slight criticism of the new SW producer, the reactions seem quite nervous to defend her. So: is it because she is a she ? I mean, do you believe “we” criticize her because she’s a woman ? And do you defend her because she’s a woman and/or because you believe that “anti-Kennedy” are all misogynist ? It’s important because on the Solo thread Jason made it impossible to talk about the movie with the perspective of the way it was produced by Kennedy (next step: we won’t talk about the screenwriter or the director of a movie because it’s not relevant ?You know, directors and screenwriter don’t take every single decision on a movie either…). I think it’s good to clear that.

Maybe the issue is that people are too quick to criticize her without understanding what they’re actually criticizing.

No.

Some do.

No.

All no, some yes. But also because it’s ridiculous to assume the head of Lucasfilm, post-GL era, is making every single decision, especially the ones “they” hate. And most especially the ones that complain about how all the men are neutered.

That’s a question for Jason…although I think it’s a very silly question.
