Glad they at least gave him an audition. Would have been silly not to even screen test him.

I never bought the claims that they didn’t, especially considering how thorough and extensive the search was.

Of course, this is the internet after all. Always going to be someone complaining about something they know nothing about.

Oh not this French kiss discussion again

Does anyone have a link to Solo’s script?,

“Get over violence, madness and death? What else is there?”

Also known as Mr. Liquid Jungle.

The movie was fun and stuff. Not great, not bad.

Until they killed the entire film by adding in one of the most shallow characters from the entire franchise. I don’t care at all about what happened in the shows. Darth Maul is dead, even more dead than the prequels are to me.

I like Darth Maul. He only appears “shallow” because George Lucas didn’t really give him much to do in The Phantom Menace.

Reality sucks, watch movies.

You’re literally confirming that he’s shallow with that statement.

Maul was featured prominently in TCW and Rebels, so TPM is not the be-all, end-all for the character’s development.

It is in my world, and many many other people who just watch the movies feel the same.

And therefore he was last seen getting cut in half.

And therefore his appearance in this movie is not just dumb, it’s nonsensical.

Maybe Solo 2 will begin with an opening scene explaining how he survived, à la The two towers opening sequence ?

But still, in a movie where Solo gets his name by a random imperial officer, I don’t get why formerly Darth Maul would be an issue… (it’s one of the very few things that put a smile on my face)

I venture I’d agree with you, but that’d be the case regardless of whether Maul is a shallow character or not.

I’m baffled how many people would sooner believe that Han Solo is 60 years old in ANH than believe Maul survived TPM.

Because one is a random throwaway joke (regardless of how much humor you find in it, if any) while the other requires a crazy leap in logic which is so far completely unexplained and is connected to a major plot point.

Your comparison makes no sense.

It’s obviously not nonsensical in the world in which the film was meant to be a part of (the new canon), and thus the “nonsensical”-ness is just the problem of the standard of “personal canon”

One could argue him being resurrected in TCW is nonsensical.

Great. Doesn’t matter to me because there’s zero explanation in the film, therefore it’s nonsensical.

I should be able to ignore EU and have stuff still make sense. It’s not like I’m trying to pretend Jabba doesn’t exist.

I found that his inclusion is less nonsensical that the way that the hologram is able to show such highly saturated reds suddenly.

I keep hearing this, but aren’t the holograms in the OT more than just monochromatic?

Very mildly which is why I say highly saturated. Like they’re saying ‘Guess who! Look here’s a red light saber you love those right!?’

I hope this is a joke.

Always. Or maybe never?

I do think the lightsaber was gratuitous. It would be like Boba Fett firing up his jetpack for no reason.

Same here - I think it may be there for the more ‘casual viewer’, who may not have initially recognised Maul without him lighting up that red sabre? (maybe that was the intention of having him use the force to bring the sabre to hand and then light it up?)

I imagine it may be something some of the talented fan editors on here will consider to edit out.

Casual viewers are like Maul who? It really should have been this guy, who’s better remembered for the wrong reasons. 😉
