What killed Mace - the Lightening or the fall?

I was watching Episode II last night (or rather ADM's excellent 'Path To The Dark Side' Edit) and saw the great distances 'jumped' by Anakin off his speeder and onto Zam's ship...

It obviously got me thinking about Mace's 'demise' in Episode III - if not killed by Palpatine's lightening attack - he could have well survived a fall of such height - or have used 'The Force' to grapple onto something or slow his descent on the way down (no hands withstanding).

So is Mace 'really' dead, if so what killed him - the fall, the lightening or a combination of both? Or is he living as a chef with Obi-Wan's mate, Drex?

As much as anything else does (or doesn't) make sense in the PT, I think there's no reason that Mace wouldn't have been able to survive. Actually I assumed we'd see Boba trying to track him down to get revenge for Jango's death. Maybe GL will use that idea for the TV series?

I thought about that when I first watched ROTS. What a lame death! A Jedi master like him could have survived, unless he was dead the moment he was thrown out of the window.

Or maybe he was shot while he was falling!! Remember "Magnolia"?!

i think it was a combination of both, first getting the surpise of losing your arm that would break your concentration. they getting fried like chicken well thats gotta mess with your nerves. then getting thrown out a window and falling thousands of feet hmm... i'd say no amount of bad mother fucker could withstand that.


lol naw i thing the lightning knocked him out and since he was out cold the fall would have killed him.

I still don't understand why everyone says Mace's death was so disgraceful. It's not like he goes out like a punk A la Boba Fett in ROTJ.

Yeah I think you are on to something... For example in ESB Luke survived the fall ... why no lightning. In Return of the Jedi there was lightning and if luke fell like the Emperor fell he would not have lived! So It was Mace Barbacue street pizza.

When does that happen? Man am I behind. Personally, my philosphy is usually, No body, No death. If it were anyone but Lucas, I'd be all but certain the season finally of the tv series is Mace walking out of the shadows, after we see a purple lightsaber igniting.

Oddly enough, it's in the very last Star Wars novel of the New Jedi Order series, Han and Leia find themselves at a space station that is under attack by the Vong, and just when it seems everyone is screwed, Boba Fett and a bunch of Mandalorians don their armor and kick butt (They don't actually take any names because Vong names are rather hard to pronounce.)
