The Star Wars Show shows off a deleted scene!

Good news:
The time code is outside the image.

Bad news:
The effects are unfinished, so it would take a lot of work to make it useable.

Perhaps other deleted scenes are in better condition, if they’re not effects heavy.

It’s a nice scene but probably unfixable for any fans. It’s one of the few settings in the movie with such heavy background compositing though, off the top of my head I doubt too many of the other scenes will be in this kind of shape.

Nothing’s unfixable. 😉 If this is a scene people want to use I think it could be done. By me or someone else.

It absolutely can be improved (by fixable I mean professional quality). There are certain things that’d be real tricky without resources though, mainly the background replacement.

Yeah, it wouldn’t be easy and it wouldn’t be flawless. I’m mostly worried about all the rotoscoping you’d have to do, and the hardest part is probably Phasmas armor which they enhance digitally to get the right reflections, hence all the red tracking dots on her.

Personally I’m not sure I consider the scene worth the work, I don’t feel a huge urge to put it back in.

Yup, exactly.

I quite like the scene, it’s a nice little moment for both Finn and Phasma, but ultimately I’d be very surprised if it doesn’t totally kill the pacing of that sequence. Plus, the final Finn/Phasma moment is already pretty great anyway.

It’s pretty good, at least it fleshes out Phasma a bit more (but for what?). But the “rebel scum” line doesn’t feel as good here.

It fits in very nicely with the Phasma novel and comic book. Ultimately, in the context of the films, her personality doesn’t matter too much though. After IX, we could be left wanting this scene back (if say Phasma shows up again and/or Finn tries to turn other stormtroopers), but for now I think it’s an okay miss.

And on the “rebel scum” line, absolutely, it’s a lot less powerful when Finn is laying down, looking up at her and simply blasts her away.

I wonder if someone could just take little snippets of the audio and squeeze them in here and there.

That’s a possibility. Especially with Phasma’s lines since we don’t have to lip sync them.

Was skimming through a copy of the TLJ novelization at a Barnes and Noble, I think I found out what a couple scenes are…

  • “Rose and Finn Go Back to Where They Belong” is Finn dragging Rose back to the base on Crait, and her sorta waking up and pointing out that earlier in the movie she was the one dragging him.
  • the “Rey and Chewie on the Falcon” scene is most likely a short snippet where they see all the walkers firing at Luke (although I don’t think they know it’s him), and they turn around or something.

‘Even as the cast felt overjoyed after the triumphant premiere of #TheLastJedi, the guy in the upper-left corner was already silently composing a mean-tweet about how he thought the movie SHOULD have been.’

Okay well with the digital release, the scenes are now out there (saw a few on twitter). Turns out my initial guess for that Rose and Finn scene was actually right (and ^this wasn’t). ^That is more or less the Rey and Chewie scene though.

As for the scene that everyone’s been waiting for - the Caretaker village - it’s really good, oddly enough the main issue is actually its placement. Takes place right after Rey’s second lesson*, which feels wrong (this, just as Rey and Luke seem to start getting along). But then, do you put it on the other side of the Fathier chase, right before Rey talks to Kylo and goes to the cave? Might be weird.

*it seems like it’s not the third lesson because it’s actually just a sort of continuation of the second. Presumably the third is simply untaught.

No comment on Gwendoline Christie’s ghost peaking her head through the back wall?

Someone pointed it out earlier, but I can’t unsee the illusion that Andy Serkis looks photoshopped into the pic.

Of course he is. He’s a CG character masquerading as a real boy.

“Sources” claim that Colin Trevorrow was ousted for trying to give certain parts of the fanbase what they really wanted. Not because the producers didn’t like his big shot attitude or that they saw Book of Henry.

I call major bs on that. The timeline doesn’t make sense, Rian would’ve already finished his script by the time Colin was hired, so if he didn’t want to continue that story he would’ve been fired a long time ago. Not to mention TLJ was basically all done by the time he was ousted, so that doesn’t really make sense that he be so adamant to change something that’s already more or less set in stone.

Why do people give a crap about Snoke? I’m much more interested in Kylo Ren actually killing his master and becoming Supreme Leader.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher
