Doctor Who — Page 76

I was hoping they’d make a new logo, and that is a pretty cool one. Things are looking up for the new Doc.

Could anyone explain to me why the Capaldi Doctor doesn’t want his future selves to eat pears?

I don’t know - Tennant’s Doctor didn’t like them either… (and yet loved The Housemartins, which went some way in helping making a him a quality Doctor):-

That is a very cool new logo 😃

Seems they’ve given the website a lick of paint too - http://www.doctorwho.tv/

I’m not sure why. In the US, a show is a series, and one year of episodes is a season, whereas in the UK, a show is a programme, and one year of episodes is a series.

Oddly, for Classic Who, they used season instead of series - perhaps “series” is a more recent thing over there? I dunno.

Brazil’s system is just like the US’s. Brits are weird.

Whaddaya think, a single episode or a whole/partial serial? I’ve heard rumors of Macra Terror potentially being discovered recently…

Web of Fear takes place in the London underground (hence the sign). Also, I am told, the Tardis lands not too far from that stop.

And web 3 was “borrowed”, Tardis is blue.

Oooh, that makes a lot of sense. Man, it’d be awesome to finally have Web complete!

I think it’s Web 3. Really excited!! They also delayed the Special Edition release of Enemy of the World, so this might be a very recent development!

Let’s hope. Although it would suck if the private collector who allegedly got it after it was nicked from that tv station in Africa, (where it was originally discovered a few years ago) walked away with money in their pocket after all this. It seems unlikely they didn’t know they were receiving a stolen print.
A necessary evil I suppose if the BBC is ever going get some of these episodes back.

Paul has explained it is nothing.

His explanation doesn’t really make much sense (i.e., he doesn’t show the blue in the can, and why the underground?).

But, he knew what he was doing. As I said in the first post, it’s either good news or he’s intentionally winding us up. We will see on Thursday, when Doctor Who Magazine makes their upcoming DVD announcement.

Steve Roberts said “It contains two BBC Colour Film labels, two BBC Separate Magnetic Soundtrack labels (one of each as a spare) and two pieces of clear adhesive film to go over them. It’s to put a Blakes 7 insert film and mag in”

So yes, just Paul having a laugh at the fans.

That seems a bit mean to stir up hopes like that. Bad enough there are constant hoaxes around missing episodes. Just about any loon can doctor up an old 16mm film can to look like something from the BBC, and get their jollies.

Well, indeed, this week’s announcement was not Web of Fear, but the beginning of the collected classic seasons blu-ray range. First up:

Tom Baker’s acclaimed first season as the Fourth Doctor, originally aired in 1975/76. With his best friend Sarah Jane Smith and new companion Harry, the Doctor pits his wits against a giant robot, the insect Wirrn, Cybermen, Sontarans and Daleks!

Twenty episodes, specially restored for Blu-Ray and packed with new and old special features. Build your own archive of classic Doctor Who seasons with this six-disc special ‘limited edition packaging’ boxset.

Existing Extras
Existing bonus material from the original DVD’s

Brand New Bonus Features
Brand new one hour candid interview – ‘Tom Baker in conversation’
Behind The Sofa – classic clips from season 12 viewed by Tom Baker, Philip Hinchcliffe, Louise Jameson, Janet Fielding, Sarah Sutton and Sadie Miller.
New making-of documentaries for ‘The Sontaran Experiment’ and ‘Revenge of the Cybermen’
Optional brand new updated special effects for Revenge of the Cybermen
Genesis of the Daleks – omnibus movie version
The Tom Baker Years VHS release on disc for the first time
Production archive material and scripts from the BBC Archives
Some other archive treats to be announced

Also apparently featuring 5.1 audio mixes. Seasons with surviving film negatives will have HD scans done. Studio footage upscaled “in hardware using a motion-compensated Teranex broadcast scaler” (as, I assume, Shada was).

Fantastic, but old news, this announcement was leaked from several online retailers weeks in advance. How disappointing there were no new discoveries 😕.

But this calls into question how they’ll deal with seasons with missing stories, or if they’ll even bother.

I do appreciate being able to save a ton of money since most of the DVDs are out of print now. I actually sold Robot for quite a bit more than I got it for in anticipation of this announcement.

Hmm. I’d rather they keep them in standard def and cram as many episodes on each BR disc as they can rather than upscale, but okay.

Well, the details are new (and interesting, IMO). Was foolish to get hopes up for Phil turning something else over anyway!

True enough. I blame Paul.

Well, time to start selling my DVDs I guess.

I’ll take them off your hands. Luckily all I’ve got on disc are the 60s stories and like two 80s stories, which I doubt will make it to BD anytime soon, if ever in the case of the 60s.

Hopefully not cropped to 16:9?

Steve has said the bulk of the costs are in the content licensing rather than the discs, so fewer wouldn’t drop the price really. And apparently the blu-ray disc association doesn’t like it when main features are actually SD.

And it will be worth it where the film exists, plus titles and credits.

No. And the restoration team is doing it, so it shouldn’t look bad like the Movie. More like Shada. 50i/60i from 576 line versions.
