I understand the desire for a theme, but chess is actually very heavy on both tactics and strategy.

I understand the desire for a theme, but chess is actually very heavy on both tactics and strategy.
I just can’t get into the looking-10-moves-ahead business. I can strategize what I’m going to do, and in general if you do this then I do that, but I can’t plan out multi-layered tactics to counter the next 5 successive moves you might make of a possible 300 tactical options available to you.

Are you saying that I overexplained, or underexplained, or that it should have been obvious I didn’t need to? Because if one thinks chess actually has any more theme than what is slightly pasted on, I beg to differ. Yes it has more theme than othello or mancala, but not much, and you literally could change the theme of chess to anything else and not break immersion in the game. Hence “pasted on.”
