I saw them here somewhere. Can someone point me in the right direction? I believe there were 2 versions each for the OT and all 3 prequels +++

They were basically mostly white.

Anyone?

If you are looking for any ink-saving artwork and not the particular, maybe you would find Fusionaddict's Holonet series intresting too.
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

AWESOME!! I wanted the MagnoliaFan versions. I had started to edit some of the OT ink-saver covers made by gundrosen THESE ONES but now it seems like maybe he was copying the Rikter design.

Anyways, here's the one that I did....

The problem with custom Digipaks is you'd pretty much have to rip apart existing digipaks to get the tray to glue to the new design (which you'd have to clean pretty vigorously to remove the residue from the original case). You can order blank paks, but they'd be a pain to print on, especially because most come with the tray pre-glued. To get a decent result you may need to get them professionally produced, which of course isn't really financially viable (unless you produced a large batch and then sold them, but then you would likely get some mail from Lucas Legal!).

I personally don't like Amarays too much (so cheap and now too average) so all my own films and custom covers for existing DVDs will be going into Super Jewel Box Kings (hopefully they will end up being 'average'!).

If you did feel like going the Digipak style then there are some other similar styles that are quite cool. Burgopak DVD designs are pretty funky, you can order some samples from their site, if you were careful you could rip them apart and find out how they work and make your own (again you'd need the plastic trays though).

If anyone is feeling arty then there are various designs on the net for all cardboard designs (and even some wood designs).

But I think the most appropriate design for Laserdisc restoration projects would be mini LD folding sleeves! Here's a quick Photoshop mockup for you all...

http://benn.antiskeptic.com.au/Mini_LD-DVD_covers.jpg

All you'd need to do is label both sides of the DVD disc hubs, leave the rest bare, purchase a magnifing glass so you can read the cover notes, then ZAP! 'Honey, I shrunk the Laserdiscs!'

[edit]Actually, I haven't seen a Laserdisc in many years (if I've actually seen a disc out of its cover at all), so I was only guessing that the discs were labeled on both sides. Were they the same as most vinyl or were LDs different and only had the label on Side A?[/edit]

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by Amarays being cheap and too average? the proper Amaray brand cases aren't cheap by any means, a box of 100 double-Amaray cases to hold 2 discs cost me £50, I could have gotten 100 2-disc cheap cases for 1/4 the price but they're (IMHO) 1/4 the quality.

With my set I'll probably just end up using 3 double-Amarays and make a cardboard case for them, each case would hold the PAL DVD with extras and the XviD DVD version, save having two complete sets of cases.

That's a crazy but kinda neat idea you have there with the label thing, laserdiscs have the same small label near the center like vinyl does, have a look at these pictures of a laserdisc a stupid eBay seller sent badly packed by airmail: CrackedLaserdiscSide1.jpg CrackedLaserdiscSide2.jpg (the git wouldn't even offer a refund and I haven't managed to get another copy yet )

Well, I was meaning the general Amaray-style cases, not particularly the actual brand. By average I simply meant the standard, and standards are boring! As for being cheap, comparitively to the other case options they are very cheap, hence why Hollywood adopted it for its standard (same reason most of the studios are backing HD-DVD and not Blu-ray, nothing really to do with what is best). I'm not against cheap (more often than not it is all I can afford) and quality Amarays are both practical and easy to customise, so for me my only problem is I find them boring (that and too many companies use cheap covers that warp way too easily).

I actually perspective-corrected your pics to measure it against CDs and DVDs, looks like they scale perfectly. The only problem with my funny label idea is most black media has a clear centre which would be visible and isn't found on Laserdiscs.

ebay.co.uk was the saviour for me regarding dvd cases...

2 6-disc cases £4 delivered - now the the SW 'Sixology' is complete I may as well have a version of all 6 films in one case

5 single disc cases £3 delivered - for the one-off rareities such as Deleted Magic and some of the 2004deSE Edits

4 3-disc cases £4 delivered - always need cases for the differing LD to dvd sets and their differing versions

all decent quality cases
