Thanks for this great artwork!!!
But please could someone let me know what size 2 disc blu ray case i need?

Thanks!

For a case like this, the measurements of the finished cover insert would be approximately:

width: 10 7/16" by
height: 5 13/16"

However, remember that there are various case styles, (standard, slimline, etc). Make sure to measure for what you aquire specifically.

Also make sure to print with about an extra 1/16" or so on all sides to trim off. This is known as a “bleed” and will allow for clean cuts without any white from the paper at the edges.

As I played around with the “Tom Jung” covers, I went on and did a “Struzan” set for the Trilogy (special edition, obviously), for use with the official Fox blu-ray release:

As usual, the editable and printable PDFs have been added to my shared folder: http://mega.nz/#F!E1tVHZ4B!Jbegfsr8CGPvHKBZUX-yaw

Enjoy!

Did anyone see the new covers over at Walmart? The series has new artwork again.

BB-8 The Force Awakens
K2SO Rogue One
Stormtrooper The Empire Strikes Back

The only ones I seen with the new covers.

I don’t have any links, I’m currently looking for them online, they have new bonus footage, that’s all I read. I will try and find them.

Seems they are doing a ‘repackaging’ with the Forces Of Destiny as an extra bonus disc? I do like the artwork covers though 😃

Phildesfr’s PDFs are already properly sized for a standard blu-ray case. You just need to print on legal sized paper (8.5 x 14 inch , 216 x 356 mm) in landscape orientation.

But if you do need to resize for some reason, there are scaling options in the print dialog of the free Adobe Acrobate Reader program.

thankyou so much…
What great artwork this is…so much effort has been put into this…its beautiful.

One last question, what is the best glue to use to stick the slipcovers together please?

I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking. If you are refering to cover art for disc case inserts, I would not recommend glue at all. Print the first side image of your insert aligned with the top left hand corner of the paper. Then take the printout, flip it over, and print the second side image of your insert, but this time aligning it to the top right hand corner of the paper on the other side, like so:

1

It won’t line up exacty, but if you oversize it by a few millimeters, you can trim the excess from the edges. It will all be on one sheet and then you wouldn’t need any glue for the insert.

If you’re talking about making a cardboard box cover for the three films (like this or this) it’s probably best to use an acid-free spray adhesive or a rubber cement.

This guide might be helpful.

This video may also come in handy, though I would not recomend using the mailing lables it shows as the adhesive probably won’t last as well as the glues I mentioned above.

That’s probably way more info than you were looking for, but hopefully some of that helps!

Just wanted to pop in and say, first of all, amazing work on all of these, they’re some of my favorite custom sets around!

Secondly, thank you for making so many of your assets available separately along with your sets. It’s a great help to many of us, both people who are just starting out in this stuff and those of us who’ve been out of it for a little while and don’t have a lot of our source materials still intact. That’s been a big help in me getting back into the custom cover game.

I posted my newest set in the main BD cover thread - they’re highly derivative of your set and use many of the assets you’ve provided, so if you feel they’re too similar to your work, please let me know and I’ll happily take the links down.

I don’t presume to speak for phildesfr, but I think it’s highly likely that he’ll be fine with it.

You gave clear credit to him where credit was due when you posted the stuff you put together. Plus, the assets you used are ones he’s shared publicly.

In my humble opinion, it would seem you’re only doing what phildesfr was encouraging in the first place.

If I didn’t feel the same way I’d never have posted them without getting express permission first, but even so, I like to be sure people whose work I’m cribbing know about it and have an easy avenue to tell me to take it down if they so choose. 😃

^You know, that is one of the things I appreciate about this site. Even though it has its share of trolls (as would any online community) there is also an abundance of common courtesy. And that is a rare thing on the interwebs.

Exactly! I’m happy that the asset I shared are useful to many of you to design your own sets, so we can all materialize a more personal connection to these films.

Glad to hear it! And thanks again for making all of your assets available, that was awesome!

I do intend to make my prequel logos available on their own for people to use as well (they aren’t exactly identical to yours), but I want to try to figure out how to make them in vector format first, since it’s very helpful to not be locked into a set resolution on things like that.

Wouldn’t it be best if the “bleed” was already designed in the artwork of the file? i.e. you can put some cut markings on outside of the design, so you can use a ruler/cutter to cut it out, but that the artwork should spill over a little on the cut markings.

I’m going to have to look at the artwork in a program to see if Phil made the artwork a little oversized for bleed.

If not, then I may slightly enlarge the artwork to scale, and add cut line markings outside the design. The nice thing is he has edible versions, which I assume the text is vector. And should slightly enlarging the artwork won’t cause the text to go a little blurry.

What brand/type of paper is recommended for these Blu-Ray cover inserts? I know I’d want something kind of thick. i.e. thicker than regular paper. So it would be more durable, and because I may print on both sides, and so I’d want less “see thru”. Also don’t want the paper to get wavy from the ink.

These are really great. I’ll probably resize them a little bigger and add cut marker lines so I don’t get any “white” and I can use the marker lines to line up my ruler and cut with a straight edge.

Also glad that you included edible versions. I wish everyone would do that. Depending on what all I download, I may need to edit the “bonus” features. Also glad that you included the fonts.

Someone has uploaded artwork for the discs. And they also included edible versions. Which is really great because I didn’t like how they put the “version” on there. And so I can put that where I want it, and I can edit it when a newer Harmy version comes out.

Hi again Ryan,

If you are going to use a 12mm blu-ray case, phildesfr’s stuff is already properly sized.

And I believe it already has bleed marks built in beneath the visable design, but even if not, since I do know the size is already correct, just print and take it to an office supply store and trim the edges with their paper trimmer manually to the finished measurements below.

width: 10 7/16" by
height: 5 13/16"

I’d recommend glossy 32 lb (brochure weight) inkjet paper that’s not pre-folded or pre-perforated, 8.5 × 14 inches. It can be a little hard to track down, though. You might have to ask a print shop to buy a few blank sheets of paper like that if you can’t find it to order.

When I have time, I’ll have to check it out in a program. I know Phil used Adobe, but I generally like using Corel. They have a vector program and paint program. It’s a lot easier to use than Adobe stuff. Though Adobe does have more features than Corel.

Actually, you can use 8.5" x 11". There’s enough room there for that.

Also, I use Viva Elite Blu-Ray cases. And their “12mm” is actually a little thinner than other brands. So I’d adjust the spine of the insert to be 11mm wide.

I originally was going to use a 3-disc case for the Harmy OT trilogy. But I really liked the artwork for these inserts. Also, I know people selling these are “bad”. But when searching around the internet, I came across a page of someone selling these and they did 2-sided printing that I really liked the look of.

That all sounds great. Another piece of freeware graphics software that might interest you is GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP).

If you want to reproduce those cases, this site might be helpful:

https://starwarsscreencaps.com/

But also be aware, the producers of everything Despecialized are very much aware of ldsentertainment, and that site and whoever runs it are despised around here for obvious reasons.

Technically, yes that’s true, but it would come within about a quarter inch of the edges and printers sometimes don’t handle that well.
