Atleast the US theatrical version of The Shining will one day get a 4K release and hopefully it’ll be more sharper looking than the Blu-Ray

It’s well known within industry circles that the plan was to release the OT’s theatrical versions in new 4K transfers prior to ‘The Force Awakens’ but the 1977 film needed a lot more work than initially thought - Disney even went so far as to ask the Library of Congress for a scan of the print they’ve had in their archives since 1978 - and so it was put back until the 40th anniversary in 2017… But we haven’t seen them yet so maybe 2018 to coincide with either Solo: A Star Wars Story or may come after the 4k release of TLJ cause that would kick ass

Um…“well known?” Sounds like a lot of unsubstantiated rumor and wishful thinking to me.

That does not clarify your claims that there was an intended OUT release planned for release prior to TFA. Again sources???

these where leaks from people on the steve Hoffman forums so maybe it is bullshit Idk

Mate, if you’re going to make claims as you did - then it is a very good idea to have sources to hand to back them up.

Or, if it is just hearsay from other people on a different forum then say so - and don’t make an assertion that is then later backed up by ‘so maybe it is bullshit Idk’.

The only thing I can think of for the 40th 4K rumor being true is Disney buying 20th Century Fox pushed any release back until the deal is done.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

If there is a new release coming up in the near future, be it OOT or SE, I expect it to be around this time next year, when we’ll have our first holiday season of the Disney era without a new film. That seems to be the perfect time to drop a rerelease without it distracting from anything else.

That’s also when Solo will be out on Blu Ray and DVD.

I’m pretty sure TFA and R1 were both released on home video in April, and I saw somewhere the other day that the TLJ blu-ray has been confirmed for April 18 in the UK. Assuming the same four-month lag for Solo, that puts the disc in late September. Still plenty of time after that to drum up excitement for a Christmas OT release.

The Library of Congress has just the SE, since Lucas asked for the original and gave them the SE in return. Or does my memory serve me wrong here? I think I read something like that somewhere in this forum.

IIRC, they politely declined George’s request to pull a switcheroo. An old member here has actually visited the LOC, and saw those prints up close several years ago.
