Ah so it’s VLC that’s the problem. Thank you I’ll check them out! 😃

EDIT: Hmm it plays but it’s all garbled and has trouble. Will not seek without freezing either. But it’s guaranteed to work in a player, right (assuming it’s burned correctly)? Like, there’s nothing wrong with the ISO itself (having been MD5 verified before unrarring).

vlc likely will not play the main feature.

Out of curiosity, what makes you say that? VLC should have absolutely no problem playing a high bitrate x264 file in an m2ts container, in general. If it’s a matter of the hardware not being good enough, I’m not sure that other software will solve the problem, but perhaps it will!

MusicallyInspired: Did you play the mounted ISO as a disc in VLC? And it actually showed the menus and everything? Usually that is the more difficult part for VLC to handle. But the main feature itself should work. If you browse the mounted ISO on whatever drive you have it on (F:\ for instance), you should be able to see the folders: BDMV/Stream/. Browse there and click on a few of the larger m2ts files and open in VLC. They should play. The one that is by far the largest (many GB) will be the movie itself. Does it play that way?

Edit: Having just seen the updated post, perhaps it is just a matter of the computer not being capable? The main feature is much higher quality in terms of bits per second your computer needs to be able to run, compared to any bonus features.

Does your laptop have a graphics chip/card? If there is some sort of GPU (even if it’s not a fancy one), there might be an option to have VLC run via that instead of the CPU or software mode, which is sometimes selected by default.

I can play the 25GB MKV file just fine in VLC. It’s the M2TS file that won’t play for whatever reason. Menus and everything work. All other titles/m2ts streams. Just that one will not work. The menus didn’t work at first, but I discovered that function was just turned off in VLC and after enabling it it worked fine.

My laptop does not have a GPU. Not a good one, anyway. Just an onboard Intel HD 3D accelerator (aka crap). I will give it another try on my main rig at home as a mounted ISO and see if I have better luck.

MusicallyInspired, you may be interested in pages 56, 60 and 61 of the original NJVC Custom Bluray thread. A few of us have found that VLC won’t play these particular iso files properly (essentially, it hangs on the main movie but the rest works fine).

I’m not sure if anyone has found a solution other than to use alternative software, such as Leawo mentioned earlier.

for me, m2ts have always been garbled for the first second or 2 in box, but okay after that.

oh well. it should be okay on disc.

What Bluto said below (or now above 😉) - I also have some experience of vlc player refusing to play the njvc iso files too, whilst the Leawo software plays it well.

(and that’s not knocking the vlc player - which is a superb piece of free kit)

I’ve just tried it this morning on my home rig with Leawo player and it does indeed play just fine (minus the ability to skip chapters or seek, which just makes the image go black). The garbled corruption on my laptop must have been due to lower specs. But there is indeed nothing wrong with the ISO. Good to know. Thanks, guys.

I just started the process…when it is going through the multi file downloader is it normal to have an error message next to some files if the cap has been reached? Can I just let it run and it will do it automatically? Thanks so much! Also how much space is needed for just the movies and not the docs? Thanks

Yes. Normal. You can check exactly how long the quota time limit lasts by right clicking on that file and selecting “Open in browser”. It’ll open the download link and tell you how long. You don’t have to check it though. I set it to auto retry after 2200 seconds (about 36 mins and to keep retrying infinitely. The longest limit I’ve had was about 3-3.5 hrs.

The movies are 50GB each. So 150GB for all three movies. Then you need space to unRAR them (but I’d recommend verifying the MD5 hashes of the RARs before deleting them just in case).

Thanks so much! What is a MD5 hash? I’m new to all of this. After it unrars is it an mkv file? Thanks!

No, they are ISO files. Image files of Bluray discs that you need to burn to a blank BD-R. Menus and everything.

There is an MD5 file included in the downloads. You need a program like MD5Summer to open that file with. It basically verifies that everything downloaded correctly and didn’t get corrupted somehow during download.

That is one thing that can cause it and the reason it’s best to download only 10 at a time every 6-8 hours. But there are a few other things that could cause problems, so you’d have to do a little more troubleshooting if that doesn’t fix your issue.

For about 10 at a time every 6-8 hours, yes. For all of them, no, you’ll hit a 5 gig quota after 10 files and stall out.

odin777 said:

Initially The RARs for just the movie blu-ray discs will need the following drive space:

Star Wars: 39.6 GB
Empire Strikes Back: 39.8 GB
Return Of The Jedi: 40.0 GB

The extracted ISOs will be the following sizes:

Star Wars: 46.3 GB
Empire Strikes Back: 46.2 GB
Return Of The Jedi: 46.4 GB

A note, though. Once you extract the an ISO, you can go back and manually delete the rars from which it was extracted to save space.

You could also set extraction programs to do this automatically during or after extraction, but I would not recomend that. If there was an error in the process, you might end up having to download the whole set all over again!

Edit: MusicallyInspired beat me to several of these points!

So I can’t have them all in the program? MusicallyInspired said that if I just let it run and set it to infinite attempts it will download when the cap is over. Thanks for getting back! So excited to finally be getting the correct versions!

He mentioned that multiple retries could cause more limits if I’m not mistaken. I hadn’t known that.

What would you suggest? Set the retry time longer?

Author

Just do what he said. Download 10 every 6-8 hours. You can’t set the retry timer that long, unfortunately (longest is 10,000 seconds, which is about 2.78 hours) so you’ll have to babysit it I guess.

I’ve never actually never tried letting it automatically re-attempt. I’d have thought that would just tick off the mega servers and make them keep adding to your waiting time. But it’s worth giving it a shot! If it just fails many times without adding to your cool off period, it might at least save the “babysitting”, if not the time. But again, it might end up delaying the process if it doesn’t work.

Also I just noticed this:

MusicallyInspired is correct, except in the use of the word “need”. Burning the ISOs is certainly one way to go, and my personally preferred method. However, if you take a look at step 10 of the first post, you’ll see that you can mount ISOs and view the menus and everything without a disc if you wish.

Right. I was going to mention that, but since he’s brand new I didn’t want to add more complicated measures to his pile. But yes, you can mount them virtually and play them on your system instead. Should have mentioned it anyway.

Yeah, everything everyone is saying makes sense, plus the fact that the stand alone film is available officially From Harmy in DVD5 format.

I guess I just wish that there had been OOT DVD’s besides GOUT.

Way back in the 90’s, pre-special edition, the “Face” VHS copies were pretty good quality for their time. Now, thanks to Harmy & NJVC, the movies can be well represented on blu-ray as well.

But DVDs never really got their fair shake at having a fully feature loaded release of the OOT. And that makes me kinda sad. Perhaps it’s just the nostalgia in me.

I’m out of town letting in run but overnight before I left it did work for a couple rounds so it looks like it should work just fine! I’ll let y’all know!

Hey, odin777, did you find out anything new about how mega’s servers react if you set FreeRapid Downloader to automatically retry indefinitely once you’ve reached your data allotment? Could you tell if time got added with the several attempts that were too early or not?
