I said “critic scores,” not audience scores. I’d imagine the audience score on Metacritic is equally abysmal for the same pathetic reasons.

I meant in reply to your “most people” comment

If the jedi (and throught the time there were a lot of jedi more powerful than Luke) could project a solid self to anywhere in the galaxy they could enter enemy ships ore bases and sabotage it or so. Many things in the war would be handled differently.

Not if it costs them their lives. It’s not clear if the energy it took did it, or whether the blows he took in the fight did “real” damage somehow, but I don’t think it’s something that they could do on a whim.

Luke did something we’ve never seen any other Jedi do before. He projected a solid version of himself across unimaginable distances and could interact with Leia and even Threepio. That had to come with a price. In the end, Luke saved the day one last time and went out a hero.

Maybe we had never seen this before because it makes alot of things obsolete.

Did you miss the part where doing this killed him?

Not trying to be snarky either really, because I actually did miss that on my first viewing. Or at least hadn’t fully wrapped my head around it yet.

I really don’t see how it killed him. It was super draining, I don’t dispute that, but I see it as him peacefully becoming one with the Force. Rey even says Luke’s gone but that it was with purpose and intent.

Right, because he knew that he wouldn’t survive, but he made the choice to sacrifice himself to give his friends a chance to escape.

That’s my interpretation of it anyway.

Are Jedi supposed to disappear when they die? The OT suggested so, but the PT explicitly says otherwise.

Why specifically did Yoda and Ben Kenobi disappear? Did Yoda disappear because he died peacefully, or did he disappear because he purposed to give himself over to the Force in his final seconds? Did Ben Kenobi disappear because because he sacrificed himself at Vader’s hand, or because he gave himself over to the Force in the instant before Vader could kill him?

The question about why Obi-Wan and Yoda disappeared but Qui-Gon did not nor did any other PT Jedi ever (or even Chirrut Imwe from R1) has never been answered.

Maybe Luke disappeared for the same reason Obi-Wan and Yoda did, but the OT doesn’t explain why Obi-Wan and Yoda did.

Yoda, Obi-wan and Luke die in a relatively peaceful way or at least that’s my take. They might not be choosing it but it has some purpose and not just being cut down or massacred by stormtroopers… but it’s ‘welp I guess this is it, but y’know that’s fine’ (Yoda is debatable but it could just be bad ROTJ writing to get him appear at the end celebration). His random announcement in the last few scenes of the prequels pushes sloppy writing to its limit and is one of the worst things ever.

Lando better damn well be in the next movie.

Maybe Lando was that “other” help that couldn’t help at the time because he was “dealing with problems of his own to take care of” that we’ll find out in IX.

I’ve been glad that Lando hasn’t been in the ST so far (as I think any inclusion in those stories would have seemed forced for his character), but it would be odd if he’s not in IX, after setting up the whole regroup and rebuild the Rebellion thing at the end of the movie.

Lando’s the man with connections. And he’s a gambler. I could even see an Ocean’s 11 style caper robbing Canto Bight blind and then buying new Resistance ships from the same people they’ve fleeced.

I personally think zero mention of Lando thus far is so very odd. Like we’ve got his co-pilot, Nien Nub, but never Lando.

I agree - even if it was in the form of a hologram like we got for Maz in TLJ; something like ‘I’m sending you some help and resources that may be of use to you’ etc in his own unique style, of course 😃

Having seeing Wook’s idea - I prefer that!

We haven’t heard mention of Wedge Antilles either. I’d like to see Wedge come back and help recruit new pilots or something.

I’d bet the Solo movie is going to show off Lando’s gambling skills in a major way.

I hope so.

Of course, Jar Jar is the key to all this y’know…

They apparently offered Lawson a part in TFA - undoubtedly as one of the Resistance officers. He turned it down because he thought the part wasn’t big enough, which I find odd considering the size of his roles in the OT.

A larger part in IX - as Wook alludes to - something like he trains / or has been training up rookie/new pilots would be most welcome to see, especially if Poe is more of the Rebel Leader character in the next film.

Not saying this was the right way to explain it, but Force spirits were explained in the last 3 episodes of The Clone Wars Season 6.

I can’t help but think about how much this film would’ve benefited from having Han survive TFA and take the part of Rose in this film. After TFA, I think it would’ve been nice to build on the Finn/Han relationship a little bit. Sure, some story aspects would have to change, but the overall story, which I enjoyed, wouldn’t. This way we could’ve had our OT trio have a final film together where they all get some decent screen time. I guess this is TFA’s problem though.

I’m not asking “why did they become Force Ghosts”, but “why did their bodies disappear?”

I heard Wedge was going to have the role that Lor San Tekka eventually had. Wedge would have had the piece of the map and it would have been really cool to see him pass it on the the next generation X-Wing pilot. Also he had a connection to Luke we saw on screen.

Lawson said it would have “bored him” to return. I guess he might regret being a part of a 2 billion box office picture, it would have led to exposure and possibly more job offers.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher
