Box/sleeve help if possible (using existing art from Criterion-like box set for njvc's custom blu-ray set)

Hello everybody,

Over the past few months I been finally putting together a Harmy blu ray box set. I’ve posted a few times and everybody has been super helpful.

I have my disc/cases with all art and labels (provided from these forums), but I am having nooooooooooo luck with a proper box/sleeve to house the set.

Bottom line, I suck at it lol.

I have used card stock, created boxes, applied art, everything comes out like trash. Can anybody recommend if it exists, somewhere or somebody that possibly creates custom box sets or prints supplied art to card stock. I really just want this set looking correct and legit proudly displaying my despecialized trilogy.

I just made my first box with ease and can talk you through it. But first can you describe your method to me?

Pretty barebones. I had somebody print out the art work for me, to later apply to the box. I got a thin cardstock, cut out each side after measuring it out with the dimensions from the supplied art (stealthboy already had it measured out properly for the 3 criterion cases). Inside the box pieces I attached all the sides with a strong masking tape, which wasn’t so bad after like my third attempt. Went to add the art and it was just all “off”, nothing lines up properly and it just looked super crappy.

I would recommend measuring yourself to the millimeter before applying any artwork. Also when you made your box how did you measure it and put it together ?

I pretty much measured it out using the 3 criterion cases. I used a ruler to line the cuts up straight and an xacto knife to make the cuts clean and straight. Just never seems to have that clean look I see with a lot of boxes shown on the forums.

It may be worth buying a really cheap boxset from ebay, a market stall, charity shop or similar - just to get hold of a boxset to carefully take apart, see how it was put together, the measurements, the folds and tabs - just to practice with / on.

May be an idea to post a couple of pics of your boxset to see how you’re getting on? - and for others who’ve already completed theirs to give some pointers / advice etc

I have a detailed box set tutorial that I have been putting together for a long time now. I just haven’t posted it because it’s not 100% complete. However, your post has inspired me to work on it again. Maybe by the end of the week I can have it ready to post.

I will say this, it does take lots of measuring and re-measuring. I have even held up my artwork to the box to double check the alignment.

I would also suggest using something heavier than cardstock. I use matte board from a art store; it’s heavy and durable and looks great when completed.

Man I would love that, it’s driving me crazy that I don’t have a nice finished box for my set. Just want to display it properly.
