Still working on the seventh. The front took a while to make 😃 I might remove the stars though. But first, on to the back!

Now there’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time… 😃

Another option, again not my artwork, just a different approach.

They look great, quite stark colouring and different choice of artwork - I hope you do a set without the Despecialized text on too - so we can use it as a generic OT cover set?

Thanks bro. My tbought was to create a finished set with very little text so that other users could adapt them to meet their individual project needs. Would that be a good option for you? If so, I can finish them weekend.

When you are finished with these, would you be able to post your Gimp file? Always fun to tinker…

I will post a link with finished covers, with full and minimal text, as well as resources for the community. I am not actually using Gimp to compile everything, just to help with some of the building blocks, like removing backgrounds from logos and such. I have been taking those building blocks and using them in Sure Thing label maker, simply for ease of use; it doesn’t take the place of Gimp in terms of all that one can accomplish with Gimp, but it also is very easy to use and doesn’t make me pull what little hair out I have left like Gimp can do sometimes. I just need to practice a bit more with Gimp to get the hang of it, but I feel like I am only really using a mere fraction of its full capabilities.

The other 2 cover, minimal text, no Despecialized.

Epic mate - really nicely done - and thank you for that and also for sharing too 😃

Thanks brother! I hope to have the final versions up shortly, with and without text.

Just out of interest, why do folks like to include the THX logos/banners on their designs? Is it a nostalgia thing, brand consistency, or a (perceived) mark of high standards?

I can think of solid reasons not to. After 20ish years of questionable DVD releases, THX is hardly a brand of quality these days. But more to the point, it simply isn’t true of the releases we’re likely to put in these cases - Despecialized, Revisited, Silver Screen or any fan edit you care to mention have either been (rightly) reprocessed from their THX-certified origins, or never came from that source to begin with.

Just curious - I guess the last examples stuck out, because that branding is the only text on otherwise beautifully minimal designs. Fox or Lucasfilm might be more apt.

Are you asking people or are you asking me? And that is not meant to be a snarky question, but a genuine inquiry. Speaking about the ones that I am working on, I left ‘THX’ on there because I like the way it looks and, as you said, a bit of nostalgia. As far as why others may include it, I am afraid I cannot answer that one. Also, as I stated previously, once I have a finished version, it will be uploaded on Mega and my plans are to offer a totally minimalist, able to be customized approach and one with full text on the rear using the text from each film’s crawl; that way as people will be able to modify them as they desire. I guess, speaking for myself, it is really hard to find that prefect cover which really satisfies everything that I am looking for and I can imagine that other people feel the same way. Thanks for the input.

Fair enough - of course different people may have different reasons. Yours is the only one I could reasonably ask you for 😃

Hello everyone. I’m excited to share my ultimate Star Wars box set 2.0. It’s even more ambitious than the first version.

Please see my new thread:

I’m going to merge my first covers to my new ones. The best of both worlds, but less flashy, and more iconic. They will not be double sided. I might decide to buy black cases (unless someone has extra three black Blu Ray cases to lend me lol)

As for any possible slipcases. I will have to wait until I use card stock sometime in the future, hopefully.

Here they are! Old & new combined. The classic front cover of the first set; the more traditional back cover of the new set. I used black backgrounds instead, and made a few alterations and color corrections. Less flashy, and a little more iconic. These covers are my personal go-to choice for my set. If you want to take them, use them well.

set
Instead of the original font for the spine, I used to same style as the title on the front cover, combined with the color scheme of the original.

set
I changed the picture on the back, because the red colors of the cloud city shot stood out too much from the colors of the front. I used a more “appropriate” shot for the Battle Of Hoth to match the “THE BATTLE CONTINUES” slogan more.

set
I adjusted the color for the “cast” pictures on the back. The titles are back to the original color.

These covers can be used for any version of the “Theatrical Cuts,” including the Despecialized Editions (which I personally have), the Silver Screen Edition & the Grindhouse versions of TESB/ROTJ, Puggo Grande, GOUT, etc.

And here’s what they look like in Blu Ray cases. They are not double-sided. I printed them with regular printer paper.

Does ANYONE have an image/vector for the “Star Wars Trilogy: Definitive Collection” logo that I may borrow?

These aren’t very high resolution, but would either of them do the trick?

The first one I’m using right now, at least the “TRILOGY” part. I had to use a separate high-res copy of the “STAR WARS” part of the title over the original in order to make it clearer.

This is what I’m trying to do for a box set: I’m going to do a recreation of the CBS/FOX Box Set, specifically the slipcases (I’m already done with the inserts as you see above).

This is the set I’ll be using as a “reference”:

set

It won’t be an “exact” copy, but there are things that will inspire the design for my own set, like using the outer cover art, and some photos for the inside case. There won’t be a “purple-ish” background color either. Like I said, not an exact copy. Just inspired by the original. I might not even use the same design in terms of shape.

I just need CARD STOCK (UGH!).

Here’s my WORK-IN-PROGRESS so far. This will give you an “idea” of what I’m trying to do:

set

I don’t know what I’m doing in terms of shape, yet. There’s a lot of measurements that need to be done. The challenging part about this is that I’m using GIMP, which is not as advanced as PhotoShop, but I try my best.

I have the 1993 Definitive Laserdisc set. I need to scan the booklet and post it on here for others to use.

Here’s a WIP of the “Star Wars” Slipcover I’m working on for my set:

Each slipcover is going to have a black & white photo of Luke–for each specific movie–on the back.
