“Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me” (1992)

That horse looked concerned standing in the bedroom. You can tell by the position of the ears.

I give this film 4 and three quarter re-cast Donnas out of 5.

Her weakness is very explicitly her naivete.

This is not a weakness in the film. It could have been, but it wasn’t. When she goes to the front, she is told she cannot cross No Man’s Land. She doesn’t understand the kind of modern artillery firepower she is up against. She does it anyway and succeeds. She’s told there is a gas that can end civilization and kill millions of people. She has probably never encountered something like that before. She walks right into a cloud of it and lives anyway.

At no point did her naivety cost her anything. It was a nice storyline that I was digging, but it was never a weakness.

Like Superman, her weakness is mental, not physical.

Not sure what else to say here, other than to reiterate that she’s not supposed to be threatened like a normal person is threatened by violence, she’s above that. It’s her childlike sense of good and evil that gets her into trouble. For example, if she wasn’t hellbent on destroying Ares at the gala she and Steve might have been able to thwart the gas attack. That gas attack costs her a great deal. Then, her insistence on killing Ares instead of helping Steve and friends stop the plane put the entire armistice at risk.

Not to mention it cost her Steve himself, her first love.

Something going on with photobucket, as images are coming up like that elsewhere. Wonder if they got hacked?

Sounds like they’re doing something that will piss off their paying customers. I’ve always found them a hassle to use, and they have popups that get around my blockers too. There are better image hosting sites out there, but a pain in the ass to move if you have tons of stuff.

More actual pictures, less broken hotlinking please.

They were actual pictures at one point.

I guess he should have used Trump’s Time Machine before posting them.

For someone who professes to hate Trump so much, you sure do act like him almost all the time.

Petty and vindictive, grudges from thread to thread, all in 140 chars or less!

I did watch Stargate earlier this year or last year for the first time in a long time. Not watching it now but listening to the soundtrack. The music is great.

Amarcord (1973) – I am absolutely certain I did not understand everything going on here.

Million Dollar Baby (2004) – I am absolutely certain this was much easier to follow.

Both are good.

Top Secret! – Thanks, Silverwook, for referencing this recently. I laughed a lot.

You’re welcome. A shame it’s not as well known as Airplane!. With that and The Doors movie, why didn’t Val Kilmer have a musical career?

The Haunting (1999)

A well structured, interesting story full of twists and turns, a great set of characters you actually care about, witty dialogue and a subtle, slowly escalating air of creepyness and some genuinely inventive scares are all things this movie didn’t have.

What it did have was some great sets and good-for-the-time CGI. It also had Owen Wilson playing a character named Luke, which isn’t particularly helpful is it?

Boo out of five.

You need to watch the superior 1963 Robert Wise version.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (octorox hybrid edit)

My thoughts on this are specifically about this edit, not the original. Honestly, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Obviously it wasn’t perfect, and didn’t have the magic charm that the original trilogy had, but this edit brings out the unique charm this film had the potential to have. And the way it’s edited actually causes the film to gain a lot of momentum and excitement. It was actually quite captivating. And, since barring the alternative of him never being in the film in the first place, had the perfect amount of jar jar. Not gratingly annoying like the original (Obviously some mild irritation), but not cut down to the point that it’s obvious that he’s been cut down. The original film had alot of heart that was ruined by everything else about it, this edit lets it shine through. Of course it’s not perfect. Some bad acting ( mostly anakin) and such. But all in all it was a very entertaining ride. I feel good giving it a 7 out of 10. (For reference I’d give the original maybe a 3 or so out of 10)

Aye, I think the ‘DVD Covers, Disc Labels, and Other Fan Artwork’ section of the ot.com will take a big hit from photobucket being very very annoying on this - lots of ‘3rd party linking’ in there.

It took me most of an evening to re-link most of my covers (thankfully I don’t have that many) - and links to others - and there’s still a fair few I’ve likely missed.

And the amount of adverts now popping up intrusively is very annoying too. Can’t see them surviving or doing well from this new ‘business model’ for very long…

Hopefully imgur will be ok/decent for picture hosting for a long long time to come… 😉

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

I was disappointed there wasn’t an actual revenant in the movie. I mean, c’mon – who wouldn’t have wanted to see DiCaprio turn into one of these:

(I jest, of course. I quite liked The Revenant just fine for what it was, though I could barely understand a word that come out of Hardy’s mouth.)
