Perhaps the biggest problems should be addressed FIRST, then, no?

The biggest problem is to have the forum actually online, which was often not the case with the old hosting service, the second biggest problem is to restore the functionalities like subscriptions, bookmarks and drafts, the third biggest problem is how things look like. What use is the most beautiful forum if it’s unavailable every now and then?

Thank you for the explanation. So, how things look WILL eventually be addressed?

Get out of my thread.

Way to be a dick, dick.

I’m the dick?

I’m not the one who is insulting the owner of the site.

Is there a way to supplement (or supplant) “markdown-it” formatting (it’s non-intuitive, difficult to use, and doesn’t easily [or at all] produce what the poster tries to do) with standard, proven, and well-known forum formatting codes (if we really want to do it manually)?
After all, there’s no real reason to re-invent the wheel . . .

. . . okay, maybe for <-- that wheel.

(The above took me x5 longer to do just to find out it won’t come out the way I wanted it.)

[EDIT] BTW, going with the standard also means that the years and years of previous posts might/will no longer be “broken”, as they presently have become.

I would also like to add a request to reinstate the block DS2 logo and the rather adorable picture of the kids pretending to be Vader and Luke on the opening page. It was a welcoming image and representative of all we stand or sit or lie down for.

I miss that too!

All up for progress and terrific work here… but any chance?

  • OT forum formatting looks better, now, in Firefox (v.37.x).
  • Opera (v.12.x) still looks like it has no formatting instructions. Setting it to identify itself as either Firefox or Internet Explorer (name only, no version number) doesn’t change how it looks.

How about adaptive screen resizing? This forum should natively support any display it’s on. NOT be extremely narrow as it is right now.

Y’know, it’s really easy as fuck HTML5 coding with a bit of CSS3 thrown in:

@media only screen and (max-width: 480px) and then @media only screen and (min-width: 1900px) including greater.

I’m viewing this forum on a 1080p display. It should automatically fit the width of the display within an appropriate wrapper which should be around 85% and a margin which could be at 5%. If I were to view on a full 4K monitor it should be adaptive to it also.

The old forum was better for proper forum width.

EDIT: Also, small icons to see if a user is online or not next to their avatar. How’s about a small on/off one which is green for on and empty while off?

The old forum had a fixed width of 960 pixels, just as the desktop layout on the current forum does:

http://web.archive.org/web/20150428220939/http://originaltrilogy.com/FORUM/

Some of you have selective memory.

The current forum DOES resize based on your display size. Load it up on a phone or tablet; it’s fully responsive. The old forum did NOT do this, and it was awful on anything smaller than a large tablet. If you’d used your browser’s dev tools to inspect the source, you would’ve seen the media queries you described.

Go ahead and set the primary container’s width to 85% using your browser’s dev tools and maximize your browser window. I don’t think it’ll be quite as nice on your large display as you seem to believe, unless you enjoy reading entire paragraphs as a single line of text:

Alright.

Since I size the font to be smaller than default on Nightly, could there be something on the sides similar to Nexus? I don’t care for default font sizes.
Also would like to post in different fonts. i.e. Times New Roman or Verdana.
Would love to multi-quote.

Perhaps putting twitter icon link in the top bar of the site may help generate some more followers on there? - and be easier for us non-twitterers to have a look at occasionally?

(and maybe one for the facebook page too?)

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Okay, I’m fairly new to this website so I’m not going to presume to know anything, but this forum is quite strange to view on a desktop. I’ve been on lots of different forums on the Internet over the years, vBulletin, XenForo, ProBoards, etc. and this one looks nothing like them. It doesn’t seem to be made for desktops in the sense that you can view a maximum of like 2 posts at a time, everything is really spaced out, the buttons are very big, and there’s not a lot of the information density one expects for desktop websites. It also doesn’t seem to have a bunch of the features you find on other forums (I see they’re requested here).

So I guess my question really is is there a particular reason this host/style was chosen?

I think so. But it doesn’t seem to do anything.

Weirdly enough, clicking anywhere on the image except on the zoom button does something. Try it!

Thanks for catching this. Fixed it (might have to clear your cache).

Doesn’t seem to do anything on mobile. Maybe the icon should not be enabled on mobile?

Jay, something weird here: i see the zoom icon, but not the actual image. http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Suggestions-for-the-New-Forum/id/17749/page/3#880815

JEDIT:
I see now that it was a broken link:

But i was thrown off because Spaced Ranger’s avatar was showing through the popup like so:

is that something unique to banned users?

additional request (that may already be in the works) - it would be awesome to be able to click through all images from one post while still in full screen view.
