Thought on de-SE'ing the DVD — Page 16

And for The Empire Strikes Back...

Again, plug original logos back in.

Original wampa cave sequence. It might be possible to edit the DVD footage to match the original scene without resorting to OT laserdisc footage. But if need be, I'll plug away.

Original "Emperor's phone call" scene, plugged from the '97 SE.

Make Artoo "taste good" again.

Put Fett's original voice back in where it should be. For the love of anything sacred....

Something must be done about Vader's pink saber. If I can't correct it, I'll plug '97 SE footage in for it when it goes to crap.

Plug OT laserdisc for Lando's evacuation speech, just because I like the original way better. Can't explain why.

Put "Bring my shuttle" back in.

Cut Vader actually going *to* his shuttle and landing on the Star Destroyer. I don't know if this is possible with the audio changes and pace of music without resorting to laserdisc footage.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

And lastly, what I hope to be done for ROTJ...

Plug original logos back in.

Plug the original Jabba dance number back in, starting with the power droid getting welted in the foot and ending when the song is over.

Have Han tell Lando "Trust me" instead of "It's allright, I can see a lot better."

Try to fix the bad sabers. But if that isn't possible, plug '97 SE footage in for them when they go bad.

Put '97 SE footage in for the unmasking. I'm just so used to seeing him with eyebrows, I want to change it back!

This is tricky, but here's what my ideal ending for ROTJ would be. Camera pans up from Vader's funeral pyre, and the '97 SE montage of planets goes by. AKA, no Naboo. Sorry, but NO gungans in the OT, thankyouverymuch. Then the rest is DVD footage up until the ghosts. Obviously, we'll have to put Shaw back in there.

Well that's what I hope to do, although it's looking discouraging....
If anyone thinks they can do a better job at what I'm trying to do, feel free! Mine will never be more than an ameature attempt and will never look worthy of replacing a different Star Wars DVD.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Personally i'd add deleted scenes to the trilogy if i had a chance.

A quick update...

I had a minor mishap in my car the other day so my ANH work has slowed down a little, but I did get a chance to try and reinsert the fanfare. I found out that the fanfare is still on the rear channels, which is more evidence that someone screwed up, but that allowed me to sync it properly in the front/center channels (there's a few frames cut between the crescendo and the theme, for some reason). I adjusted the volume in each channel based on the volume of the music after it comes back in, with a center channel constructed by mixing the left and right, and I'm pleased to say it sounds, to me, indistinguishable from the SE!

The last video edit (unless I find any more) needs just a bit of tidying up, but it's almost good to go as it is.

Oh, I also graphically equalised the line "...then name the system!" because the sound quality drops on it.

If you ever decide to mess around with the audio some more, I would equalize the discussion between Owen Lars and Luke Skywalker at the table. It has some major issues.

But I wouldn't waste any time on it if you aren't looking for something to do.

Sorry to hear about the car mishap. I hope it wasn't too serious and everything is alright (or will be soon with minimal disruption to health, happiness, and finances!).

I can't wait to see this technological terror you've constructed.

(I keep getting his and tellan's projects confused.)

ha. that's because I have two projects on the go at the moment.

1. ANH from DVD
2. ANH from LD.

the DVD version is color correction. and fixing as much of the SE stuff to get it back to original cut as possible. however. mos eisley can't be completely fixed. the ronto's are in on that panning shot. I've taken picture quality over original footage here and made a creative decision. I'm sticking to the formula that I don't want differences in footage to drag you out of the film.

I was thinking about such a project as I was watching it as well. There were quite a few bizarre editing and pacing things that just didn't work for me. I found it to be a pretty clunky film over all. Maybe we can give it a decent make over!

Certainly add some of the deleted scenes back in.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

A little confusing shifting through all the threads on here - am wondering how many Edits/versions of the 2004 SW dvds there are being done at the moment or already completed?

1. ocpmovie's Classic Collection?
2. adigitalman's 2004 set?
3. tellan's 2004 dvd set?
4. darth editous 2004 set

any others in the pipeline or out there already? (I havn't included Mverta's intriguing set as he won't be releasing it)

(edited to include the intriguing 'Darth Editous 2004 dvd set')

There's a list of the changes I've made back on page 12 of this thread (slightly more than halfway down).

Cheers Darth Editous.

Nice list of changes you made - most impressive...

Are you not tempted to start your own 'Darth Editous 2004 Set' thread so people can find out more info on your version a little easier m8? - 20 pages and counting is some thread to go through and find (prob my short attention span

At the time I wasn't sure whether it was against the rules to discuss an edit made from the DVDs. Jay and Zion have since okayed it, so once I've started sending the DVD out, I'll be starting an official feedback thread

Ditto here. My thought is that this is a "workprint" thread for methods and ideas mainly geared to what the subject suggests. Once something definitive is out there, an official thread should be launched for each release to discuss it. Rik released my ROTJ and will hopefully be releasing ESB soon. ANH still isn't ready and does deserve the best treatment of all. Hopefully you'll all be happy. There's a good possibility DE's version may become my fave, but I'm having fun doing what I'm doing with his help.

After RotS I'm sure everyone is eager to watch ANH, so is there any new word on when Editous will be sending out his version? Watching it won't make me feel as guilty for watching the same movie for the 500th time. So is there a point in holding out or should I just bust out the DVDs?

I'm hopeful* to start sending out at the end of this week.

No rush, DE. I'm just very anxious to see Episode 4, after RotS, and what all you've done.

DE... I couldn't find anywhere in the discussion whether you fixed the noise Ben makes to scare off the sand people. The original version was a Krayt (sp?) dragon noise while the 2004 DVD is of the lizard thing from Ep 3.

I assumed that the lizard thing from Ep III is a Krayt Dragon. Even before I'd seen Ep III I'd decided not to change the sound in the DVD, and I'm glad I didn't because I like the link. The original noise sounded too similar to a Dewback, to me.

My God, so that Lizard in ep3 is the Krypt Dragon. I see why he tinkered the original scream in the DVD version.

what? no way...i refuse to believe that. First they werent on Tatooine. Second, Kyrat dragons eat people or something...i dont think they are nice enough to ride as a pet. third, i dont think there are more than a few on Tatooine, and four, they are WAAAAAY bigger...remember that skelaton we see in ANH when C3PO sees the Jawa Sandcrawler? that is a Kyrat dragon skelaton.

plus, that think squeaked/squealed. and did it way too much at that.

I never thought it sounded like a dewback until Lucas put in so many dewback sounds that we couldn't help but know what they sound like. Having said that, would not a dewback scream also startle tuskens since the imperials are known to employ them?

I really dislike the new sound. It just sounds like an electronic tweet. . . doesn't even sound scary.
