Should Maul have been Greivous?

Author

For anyone that has seen the Episode III, we see that Greivous was an actual human that was kept alive by robotics. Would it not have made the films tie together beautifully if when they panned in on Greivous' eyes, the red and black of Maul could be seen? Gives a precursor of how Palpatine would save Vader in the same way.

Obviously it didn't happen, and some may think it stupid. But I think it would have made Maul's character have some substance other than to get 10 whole minutes in the first film.

Personally, I think that instead of killing him in the first one, Maul should have been in Grievious' role. It would have given the fight between them more impact, especially since everyone would be familar with the character. It would've been a nice thread to Episode I, with Obi wan finally avenging his master.

One of the comic books brings him back, (he's cybernetic from the waist down) and boy is he ever pissed!

Where were you in '77?

I think the idea of Greivous actually being Maul is really really cool. Not that I didn't love the movie (because I did), but I think that would have definitely helped. A good suggetsion for Magfan's inevitable edit.

You happen to remember what comic that was?

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

you know its really funny cause it would have been a prefect opertunity for lucas to make the PT better, such a small change would have enhanced the movies so much. but he didnt and htats the bottem line.

This occurred to me somewhere early on in the production where Grevious was mentioned for the first time - even before the aforementioned comic. I thought it would dovetail nicely with TPM, and now, seeing as how Obi-Wan takes him out, it would have been poetically nice. On top of this, Maul would have been driven by revenge (another poetic tie-in) and the fight would've carried more weight.

Honestly, I didn't care in the least for GG. Why was he necessary in the film? I got the sense that he was just an addition that would make a cool action figure. I would rather have been poor Dooku kept alive a little bit longer to fulfill the Grevious role. I mean, he's on side with the Separatists and the Trade Federation already, right?

Maybe it's an idea to pitch to MagnoliaFan for if/when he does an Ep3 Edit?

The answer is no! Why? Because he survived. He would’ve appeared in ROTS, and it would debut Ahsoka Tano, Bo-katan, Ursa Wren, Mandalore, Caleb, Rex, and the Siege of Mandalore arc.

Man must be such a trill reviving all those threads from 15 years ago, I wonder what new grounds might we break

Each of the villains in the Prequels represent what Anakin becomes and serve the appropriate purpose within their respective narrative.

Darth Maul = Hatred.

Darth Tryanus = Former Jedi that falls to the Dark Side.

General Grievous = More machine than sediment being.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

I don’t know, I’m glad we got Maul mostly because I think he looks intimidating and because we eventually got his great story arc across TCW and Star Wars Rebels. The man used as a tool of Palpatine and the Sith only to be robbed of his destiny and discarded, left broken for the rest of his life. Grievous on the other hand, nothing interesting was ever really done with him. Also his cyborg design may be perfect for selling action figures to 8 year olds, but it doesn’t fit with the OT aesthetic at all.

Dooku’s still awesome.

This is actually a really good point which I forgot about.

SandMTV is the most fascinating poster on this forum. How do they find these threads? I thought they might be some kind of bot at first, or even some sort of GPT-3 powered AI, but their posts are just about too coherent for that to be the case. Is it “Sand M T V” or “S and M TV”? The latter is more concerning.
