Star Wars Insider celebrates the 40th anniversary with...

Want to see the very definition of a “screw you” to fans?

Here’s the ad in the back of the newest edition of the Star Wars Insider. It’s promoting the next issue that hits newsstands on May 23rd, 2 days before the official 40th Anniversary.

And what is the main thing they’re talking about? The 1997 special edition re-release.

They might as well put a big middle finger on the cover.

Sometimes it seems they are taking the mick with this 40th anniversary celebrations - they should really go with having the 20th anniversary Special Edition celebrations instead…

Or maybe have future anniversary celebrations for the later '04 & '11 versions as well - meaning more opportunities to sell the franchise/merchandise to fans (the same fans who can’t buy the version of the film that kicked the whole Star Wars thing off 40 years ago, and counting…)

Issue 172 (May 2017) of ‘Star Wars Insider’ doesn’t seem to mention the 40th Anniversary much at all…

Issue 173 does feature 20th Anniversary articles on the Special Edition versions, of course…

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Whatever. This doesn’t rule out an OOT release IMO

I was looking forward to a special double issue or something. But, alas, no. There will probably be more Rebels interviews. Maybe they’ll interview the people who did the effects work on the Special Editions. sigh I feel like Disney is now out to get rid of the original versions as well…

At least they finally stopped pretending.

Why talk about the 20th anniversary when we’re celebrating the 40th?

Just having a article on how they put the films in theater again in 1997 doesn’t man they won’t release the originals at some point.

Lucas must have seen Kennedy or Iger kill a hooker or something for them to bow to his wishes like this. But they did ignore his treatments so IDK what the f is going on.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

From what I can tell it’s all just one big publicity machine. It’s hilarious how much he complained last year, and now he’s back.
How can we get people talking? Oh let’s drop George’s plot ideas, publicly, then have him bad mouth us, publicly. But what now? Let’s get him back for a mutual ego boost to get people talking even more! He’s an embarrassment, but we promised people surprises and have nothing up our sleeves, I guess we gotta roll him out. What else is he doing, small personal movies? Hahahahaha sure.

Yes they can, because everyone who works at Lucasfilm is a fucking moron. Haitian slaves in 18th century sugar plantations were treated better than Star Wars fans in the last 20 years. The SE should be the version that should be erased from existence, not the originals. Kathleen Kennedy is my new enemy for doubling down on the George Lucas bullshit we have had enough of already.

Surely this crosses the line.

90% of what he posts crosses the same line.

As long as Lucasfilm treats us with contempt, the analogy fits. I’m dead serious here; this is not a joke or a troll post to me.

The OT is too important for it to be surpressed like this, for decades, when one of the most profitable movie studios of the 2010s can clear any rights issues and give us the original versions. They should have done it right after they bought the rights in 2012. But no, they chose to drag us through the mud for five more years.

I still don’t see how an article of how the films were re released in theaters 20 years ago is indicative of anything. Also, fuck you for the slaves comment you miserable piece of shit.

Name me the only two films in the national film registry that do not exist in said registry.

Lucas REFUSED to give the library of congress the original version of SW, and almost forced them to accept the SE instead. The man also told that the films WE enjoyed for twenty YEARS were nothing more than rough drafts. When bootleg sales were cutting into his ten-figure profits, he gave us a substandard non-anamorphic “bonus feature” as a middle finger to his cash cow. When we petitioned again and again to have the original films released, he chose to instead mutilate the films even more with nonsensical changes.

This just scratches the surface of what fans endured. I haven’t mentioned the purging of the real men and women who made SW and Empire the classics they are. Or the prequels. Or the suffering the franchise has taken under Disney’s wing.

Bottom line, we have been treated badly for decades. I wouldn’t be a “miserable piece of shit” if it weren’t for the decades of madness Lucasfilm has inflicted on the public.

Last time I checked, Lucasfilm hasn’t whipped anyone for not working hard enough, restricted their freedom of travel, or forced unwanted religions on their fans.

Must be a typo. Fixed:

“Insider reveals how the Star Wars saga makes a triumphant return to the big screen in 2017!”

Maybe not, but having to watch a fan restoration of a movie is worse.

I don’t think anyone here is as old or senile as George to be making offhand comments about slavery relating to a movie franchise
