Star Trek III? OMG YES!!!
I should probably make this a thread in the Other Preservations board, but I thought I’d ask here first.
Would there be any interest in the ABC cut of Star Trek III? I’ve been digging for a better quality version than my VHS rip, but I can barely find any info on this cut, let alone another rip. I know it’s brutally truncated, but it’s at least kind of interesting.
Runtime’s 1:28:05, although there’s a little runoff at the end after the credits into commercials.
What, a man builds a giant mound of dirt in his house and you aren’t entertained?
Star Trek III? OMG YES!!!
What ABC did to TSFS makes what they routinely did to the Bond movies seem mild by comparison. 😉
Where were you in '77?
Is there any list of changes they’ve done to it? I have only seen ABC versions of 1 and 2

Oh boy.
Well, for starters, the opening recap was cut (although I can’t tell if that was a recording error my grandfather made back in the day), so it opens right on the casket scene and credits.
After the credits, it cuts straight to the Klingon freighter scene. However, it also omits Kruge destroying the freighter.
No “limp” home scene at all.
Several minor cuts here and there from now on, most notably in the transporter room in spacedock, with “adventure” guy nearly cut out.
Overall, about 20 solid minutes were cut, with absolutely nothing added in. I’ll have to re-watch it and take notes tonight or tomorrow. From what I gather, the film was supposed to get the extended cut treatment like TMP and TWoK, but there was an NFL strike a few weeks before it’s premier so ABC rushed III’s cut to fill the new vacant time slot. It’s…yeah, not very good.

I wish the more utilitarian uniforms and colour palette from “The Cage”/“Where No Man Has Gone Before” had been retained in TOS proper. I really don’t care for the garish Technicolor sets or those unprofessional-looking mini-dresses the ladies had to wear.

A. It was the 1960’s.
B. RCA owned NBC
C. RCA wanted to sell a lot of color tv’s.
Where were you in '77?
Oh RCA. Will you never learn?

Posse-whipped.
I finally finished TOS. At first the overbearing color was weird but I got used to it. Now I quite like it-particularly since eitnlooks amazing on my hdcrt. But every female crew member always having to wear miniskirts is really silly.
So I now get all the season three hate. No one episode is really bad but s3 is endless great or decent ideas that are either never developed fully or developed at all. However I will say that at time I did have this sense in later season 2 episodes.
But I did an actual spit take when I came across SPACE HIPPIES. That was hysterical.
My thoughts are that season 1 is the best overall with some episodes from season 2 roped in. I’ve now started the animated series which is far better than I expected for a 70’s filmation show.
Is the alternate Where No Man Has Gone Before a completely different edit or just slightly different?

Space hippies were everywhere in the late 60’s. Even Lost In Space had to deal with them. 😉
The alternate WNMHGB is different in there’s some additional footage, and what is commonly referred to as A Quinn/Martin Production style presentation, which was very common for one hour dramatic shows well into the 70’s.

I wonder if George Takei has ever met his comedic doppelganger?
Where were you in '77?
Surely there’s a timeline where George IS the doppleganger.
Hate to double post but this is definitely worth a peek. Seth McFarlane has apparently been working on a new live action series:
