I think I am coming to terms with Harmy’s Despecialized or TN1 35mm scans as the only versions I will ever need. Disney won’t do it. This was the ultimate chance to announce a real preservation project, but no. Instead let’s all stroke George’s ego some more.

Honestly I don’t think so - because to release the unaltered versions would be a slap in the face to George, who thinks the changes are the only correct versions.

Mate, just download them from myspleen - please don’t give money to the pricks on ebay profiting off Harmy and everyone who contributed to making the DeSepecialised Editions happen.
The problem is the Despecialized editions simply aren’t good enough. The colour timing is way way off. In the case of A New Hope it’s dire. Silver Screen edition is great, but for the sequels all we have is the grindhouse versions.
I think they are great - though I am not fussed by stuff like the colour timing being ‘way way off’ etc - for me right now the DeSpecialised Editions and the 35mm SSE & Grindhouse are the best way to watch the OT - and certainly far better than the pitiful official releases we are continuously being sold.
The eventual work/release of the v3 DeSpecialised Editions will likely see even better results than before too, along with the continuing work on the 35mm by the other lads.
A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

From what I saw I prefer the Grindhouse versions. I really like the filmness of them, if you know what I mean. I’m just pissed off and not having a good day/week/month/year due to a family member slowly fading and Star Wars is one of the few things I still get any joy from.
The Carrie Fisher tribute was nice. I wonder how many meetings there were to find a joke of her’s clean enough for all audiences.
It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? For sure, it’s not the type of thing I would ever think they would announce at the starting panel. No surprise to me at all.
Anyway, I missed the first hour or so of the livestream for reasons I won’t bother going into here, tuned in just after noon and saw Harrison and George talking their different versions of how it happened. Ford’s “fly? yes. land? …” got a laugh out of me.
The stream was constantly buffering for me as well, but I did catch that amazing video they put together for Carrie and it definitely got the emotions going. Cut to: surprise, John Williams! Of course someone holding up their phone to take a pic was directly between Johnny and the camera. “Put your fucking phone down!” I yelled at, ironically, my own phone. So 2017.
Hearing Leia’s theme conducted by the master himself absolutely destroyed me. The orchestra really “brought it” as well. Do we know who they are?
An OOT announcement was never going to happen at this panel. This was always going to be about Carrie, and it’s only fitting. I don’t think, however, that there’s zero chance of it happening later on during the convention.
But then again I’ve already resigned myself to the likelihood that we won’t hear anything until 2020 at the earliest. If we get an announcement before then it will be a nice surprise. If that happens to be in the next month or so, great! But we really shouldn’t frame this convention as the “now or never” venue for an OOT announcement.

In my opinion, we now have two more chances for an announcement this year: May 4 and May 25. If we don’t hear anything by then, I don’t think we’ll see them in an official capacity any time soon. I think something we have to remember is that even though we have access to these great fan preservations, the general public does not. For a lot of people, the OUT not being released officially is a huge barrier.
They didn’t put up the panel again? I’d like to be able to watch the parts that i missed because of the damn streaming issues.
