There’s something that just feels wrong about Vader using his lightsaber to seemingly pick up the robe like that.

The rules really had not been set in stone yet. Keep in mind, most if not all of the Marvel adaptation was drawn with only a script, stills and some concept art to work with. The first issue hit the stands a month before the movie was even out.

I get that, but it’s still odd considering the Star Wars I ended up growing up with (only a couple months older than the Spec Ed)

Well when I was little (I’m younger than the SEs) I didn’t notice that the saber cut all the way through the robe, and never had a problem with the inconsistency. I assumed “something something Obi-Wan something the Force.” So the Marvel version doesn’t bother me.

As for which version I grew up with… I don’t really know. I never owned the movies and just rented them from the local Movie Gallery, so I probably rented tapes and DVDs of multiple different versions depending on what was available.

The Marvel comics version probably gave a few young fans spooky dreams. 😉

This is amazing.

Is Vader shouting his own name?

Lol! I’m now picturing Darth Vader’s tactics hunting down each Jedi… lulling them into conversation and then suddenly interrupting them mid-sentence as he strikes them down, shouting, “DARTH VADER!!!” at them.

The duel is pretty wordy in the comic. Here’s the whole exchange.

The radio station I was listening to back in the day would randomly have women saying “DARTH VADER!” at the end of MECO’s version of the SW theme. Kind of annoying when you’re trying to tape the song off the radio. 😉

other sci-fi franchises catered for too - the DS9 looks great as well

I never had a VHS tape with artwork like that on it. They usually kept colors to a minimum, right?

The similar Star Wars cover (from swonvideo.com), was this:-

it’s fairly colourful, though I do remember a lot of vhs covers being quite plain - or washed out - likely to have been rentals or on cheap paper maybe?

I’ve absolutely never seen a VHS label featuring artwork.

Aye, I think most of the labels on my vhs tapes had a white background with some black text on about the film or tv program - sometimes it’d have a different colour logo of the film distributor on it - though to be honest I can’t remember 100%!

For some reason I think a few of the later released tapes may have had different colour labels - but not much artwork on at all

The most colourful VHS I remember having is “Monsters Inc.” but that was because the cassette itself was blue, rather than any fancy art on it.

EDIT: I looked it up, and it seems like the PAL (UK maybe?) release of Monsters Inc. is incidentally an example of a cassette with fancy sticker art on it, while the American release had the standard generic white text on it.

It’s a little odd doing it for things like DS9 which actually did come out on VHS though. 😉

There is a part of me which wants to try and rig one of those nightlamp things up myself - think I still have a DS9 tape somewhere in a box in the loft…

The other part of me knows I’ll mess it up - and make a mess - or have forgotten about it by tomorrow 😃

It’s an interesting way of recycling dead media, but what happens if little Timmy tries to stick it in the one working VCR you have left? 😉

^ 😃

Little Timmy likely lacks the strength or won’t be able to overcome the fear of being confronted with the menacing presence of one of these…

^ the sound of the tape loading mechanism alone will be enough to scare the the wits out of him - let alone the power required to press one of those buttons.

No wonder we thought machines will take over the world back then… (and pretty much have done since) - it looks like a cross between a prototype Terminator and an early model Borg!

Little Timmy is probably going around telling his friends that daddy has a machine in which you load the nuclear codes into to start WW3…

😉

^ respect also given to Betamax (especially the top loaders) and the Philips V2000 😃
