I think this is a really cool idea:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - [Big Sleeve Edition] [Blu-ray] [2016]

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Awakens-Sleeve-Blu-ray/dp/B01LY3PI1H

Disney brings back Laserdisc sized sleeves’ - a 9 minute video from the TechMoan youtube channel:-

How hard would it be to produce fan made versions of these?

It’a quality idea - love the artwork, nostalgia and seeing those big laserdisc-sized covers once again 😃

The main issue for us lovers of fan-made custom art is that many of our home printers may well be too small to print a full size laserdisc cover on (a laserdisc sleeve/cover measures in at 12" inches - plus flaps), and it’s likely have to be printed on quite shiny and thick-ish card rather than the semi-glossy/glossy paper we use for dvd or blu ray covers…

It’d also use up a decent amount of printer ink at that size too.

You’d also have to decide whether to have a 24"x 12" cover - which would fold over with additional flaps - or have 2 12" x 12" covers and somehow stick them together (likely more additional flaps?) - and also if and what size you want the spine to be…

a few vinyl template covers (just for ideas) - https://www.duplication.ca/printspecs/vinyl.htm and http://www.piratespress.com/templates/12-inch-jacket/

However, if stores like Staples or photo / printer stores have the means - and are reasonably priced - then it could be an intriguing project!

It’d be certainly worth asking a few people with knowledge of laserdiscs and vinyl what type of printable card to use, how much it’d be and where to buy from - and also how best to fold and secure the covers etc

(as well as finding out how to secure the blu ray or dvd disc itself in the cover?)

Could be a lot of work to make it happen - but also a welcome challenge for someone out there 😃

I am happy to see the 12" covers but if they are going to go that far why not release some laserdiscs even if it would be in a smaller quantity to really get fans going.

I like the idea, but in practice it seems like they would not be particularly sturdy. There’s nothing in them to provide support, like the Laserdiscs or LPs themselves. They need some sort of plastic tray to hold the discs. I also don’t like the artwork they chose. Plus they’re only available in the UK, or at least they were the last time I checked.

I’ve got the TFA one, and it’s really quite sturdy. It’s heavy card stock, no need for plastic reinforcement! The discs are housed in slots in the cardboard. And there’s art prints too! One thing I would have preferred is the CD of the soundtrack instead of the DVD (which I have absolutely no use for)

Still waiting for the Rogue One big sleeve edition…

You may want to try Zavvi if you’d like to buy them from outside U.K.

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

Are these region free?

Sorry Wazzles mate - I’ve no idea.

There has been no publicity in the UK for this - and despite it being a Tesco exclusive - Tesco aren’t advertising the R1 ‘Big Sleeve’ release online or elsewhere as far as I know - the bloke who did the video accidentally stumbled upon one in the shop whilst looking for the regular bluray…

May be worth asking the guy who did the video though mate as to whether it is region-free 😃

I would so buy this, if this was in the US. It would be awesome to get all the Star Wars films just like this, that goes in one giant box that holds all of them. I would dish out lots of money for something like that.

Those are super cool. I had also considered picking up a few, but the OCD in me would not have been able to withstand the different sizes…

Sadly, Tesco has stopped doing the Big Sleeve Editions for blu rays of various films - which is a bit of a blow for those of us collecting the Star Wars editions (TFA, R1 & TLJ) so far.

Though it seems a few online fans maybe coming up with their own versions (some nice artwork used)…

Good luck to them 😃
