So, today as it happens I got the only review for this film that really matters.

Sure, the fans seem to like it.

But what does the star of this film think about it?

What does Garrick Hagon - Biggs Darklighter himself - think about Star Wars: Deleted Magic?

Dear Garrett,

The answer is--it's great! I had a fun morning yesterday watching it.
Brought back memories and had a wealth of stuff I hadn't seen. What a
terrific edit and collating job and such very good quality
reproduction!

Thanks to you and Skot and all best wishes, hope to meet up again in
the
future.

Garrick

There's your answer then.

Hard to explain how happy I feel, but you can guess on that.

Having Mr. Hagon enjoy this film is all the validation one could ever need ... I feel incredibly happy and proud, and go off happy now .... before the inevitable cease and desist and lawsuit.

Ruben, that's a beautiful cover ... I was going to use that same photo of Luke and Biggs for my own cover. I might actually make a similar one myself. =) Needs Jabba on the front, and other stuff, though. And needs to be about 5 times bigger.

The fact that we're mentioned on Ain't It Cool News is scary ... everyone on the internet knows now. What was an underground thing in my little room here has now gotten to the point where Lucasfilm surely knows. Oh well.

As I said, downloads have been insane, and yes, the Starwarz.com website for the film has been taken down for now. It was crippling poor T'Bone's bandwidth. This was not my decision, I'm finding out about it right now.

You can NO LONGER DOWNLOAD the film from starwarz.com, as I write this, hopefully the site and FAQ will return but they're gone for now, yes.

The torrent should still be available at myspleen, enjoy the full DVD there.

I'm really glad that the discussion at Ain'tItCool came down on the side that it was okay to do this, though. Maybe Lucasfilm will think the same?

And Neil - sorry about the 2004 audio, it bothers me too. I was trying to create a version of the final battle that was less effective than the final cut, so using the badly-remixed audio didn't bother me too much there ... I know I should have used the real thing though.

However, I'm working on an ANH that will solve such troubles.

Please refrain from asking for copies of the film in this thread. It's floating around there now. It will come to you.

Wow. That must've really made your day, getting the thumbs-up of appreciation from Mr. Darklighter himself.

I am going to DL this from Myspleen in a few days (have to wait for broadband speeds to kick in again). I'd get it from you ocpmovie (but it looks like you don't want to be attached to distributing it any longer - and I would lose so much money in the currency conversion it would hardly be worth my while). However, I look forward to seeing this!

I watched the whole thing this weekend and I must say that it was fantastic. The quality the whole way through was first rate. I'm sorry that I don't have more to say about it. I wanted to post a long review but all that keeps running through my mind is how much I really enjoyed it. Deleted Magic really brought me back to my childhood. There are tons on extras on this thing, many of which you are likely to have seen anyway, but it's really nice to have it all in one place and with such a wonderful documentary. This is what "Empire of Dreams" should have been. Hopefully the attention drawn to it lately will not keep people from seeing it. It's a must see. Thanks Garrett for making this!

Thanks to TheDarkOne, who is posting the DVD on the newsgroup tomorrow. Newsgroup folks, enjoy it there. It's still available on myspleen of course (when I checked yesterday it was one of their top 10 most active files), and Brian McElheron has posted it ... somewhere, I don't know. He writes to say the following:

Hi Garrett,

Congratulations on the great review from Biggs Darklighter.
Only one important review left. The one and only George Lucas.
Hopefully he will see it for what it is and not sue.

The site that I posted the DVD to is full of Star Wars fanatics.
I've been getting a lot of positive feedback that I wanted to pass
along
to you. All I did was act as a distributor. You deserve the all of
the
praise I'm getting. Here's a few excerpts;

From Coraniz;
"Wow, this is really awesome. About 20 times more interesting than the
shit on the special edition."

From PepsiOtaku:
"Just finished watching this. So amazing"

From rob5d4:
"just watched this thing and it was amazing.
best star wars related fan thing ive ever seen.
cant wait for the other ones"

And after the site went down, a little humorous reply;
From Zogo:
"the guy who put this site up is being tortured at skywalker ranch as I
type this."

Most of the rest of the 100+ replies I've gotten have been fairly
generic "Thank Yous" but I thought you should know that I have not
heard
ANY negative feedback at all.

Thanks to you Garrett for giving me permission to post this masterpiece for our friends and fellow Star Wars fans over at alt.binaries.starwars on the newsgroups.

I'll begin posting it tonight once the Dr. Gonzo extras disc is completed.

Thanks again and MTFBWY!

Hey, Garrett. Just wondering if you found anything of worth on that CD.

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
<span class=“Bold”>JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
<span class=“Bold”>Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.</span>

Hey Eric! You mean the disc of little web videos, right? I'd seen it all before, but thanks for sending it.

Review of the day --

Andrew Sandford

I watched Deleted Magic tonight and I just have to say thank you very, very much. Thank you for your time, thank you for your effort and above all thank you for treating a major part of my childhood with the love, care and attention I've always felt it deserved. I hope a copy of your work finds its way into the hands of George Lucas, maybe it would help him realise that the reason Star Wars was so popular was because they were films with a soul, far removed from the charm free leaden scripted CGI affairs he's attached the Star Wars name to in recent years. Looking forward with much anticipation to yor next instalment of Deleted Magic.

Kind regards,

Andy

Hi all,

Inspired by this amazing film and rortiz77's cover, I set out to make my own. It's the first Star Wars cover I've done from scratch. Hope you enjoy it.

http://img202.echo.cx/img202/7721/deletedmagic300dpi1hosm0xu.jpg
Download the full sized 300 dpi version here. (corrected for spelling 5-31-05)

I do have a 600 dpi version but it's just too big for imageshack. If anyone wants it and has an idea where to post it let me know.

Cheers!

Quite classy and the back cover is nice ... although those pictures don't really scream "Deleted scene!" Need to use Biggs and Jabba photos.

I really ought to do my own cover, shouldn't I ... sadly, I'm very much caught up in other things. I'm doing test versions of my own DVDs after Classic Edition!

If anyone else is doing a cover, I do prefer that the logo for Deleted Magic be blue as you see it on the site, the background a field of stars, which would probably gradient down into a white or light blue leading into a photo of Luke and Biggs, probably the one with Biggs and the binoculars that Ruben used ... Jabba could also be present, or on the back cover. If you're just showing Luke, the Gilligan hat is a must. I had originally planned a Struzan-style collage of deleted scene pics. Other back cover or element ideas: the cast out of costume, 3PO tearing the sign off the door, Sy Snootles ...

Lost Scenes and editing secrets of STAR WARS is the subtitle. You'll find it on yer official Deleted Magic DVDs. =)

If listing the title on the back cover as Orchid has, don't bother with making the end letters of DeleteD MagiC large like that, it looks a bit odd when not in the logo. The Deleted Magic font is Big Caslon, but that doesn't work so well on covers does it ... Orchid's is quite nice.

Thanks for the positive comments.
I really wanted the Biggs/Luke shot for the front, but I couldn't find a decent quality version anywhere.
If anyone has a hi-res or even a decent quality screen res shot of Biggs and Luke I'd love to throw it on my cover.

The font I used for the DM logo is Book Antiqua Bold with an additional adobe photoshop faux bold. It was remarkably close.

With some of the suggestions made by ocpmovie in mind, and finding a good sized version of the shot on rortiz77's cover, I retooled my original cover (available here) and came up with these variations.

Version 2 (corrected for spelling 5-31-05)
http://img202.echo.cx/img202/6892/deletedmagic300dpi2hosm3eg.jpg
Download the full sized 300 dpi version here.

Version 3 (corrected for spelling 5-31-05)
http://img63.echo.cx/img63/5808/deletedmagic300dpi3hosm3it.jpg
Download the full sized 300 dpi version here.

Version 4 (corrected for spelling 5-31-05)
http://img85.echo.cx/img85/8456/deletedmagic300dpi4hosm9ci.jpg
Download the full sized 300 dpi version here.

While I have to agree that Biggs is definately the poster boy for deleted scenes, I'm happiest with the first of the new variations (V2), after my original one.

Here's to the wonderful game of pick and choose!

Hope you all enjoy!

No V4 all the way.

I recall someone going to do a 'professional' cover. Wonder what happened to that.

Btw, take a look at Reubin Ortiz's cover (posted earlier). 3 things I like about his back cover is the bullet points and paragraph breaks make it easier to scan with your eyes. I also like his credits at the bottom.

Maybe I'll cut and paste all the covers out there to make my own uber cover. Or Deleted Magic Cover: Classic Edition

Not bad Orchid ... I hadn't realized your logo was a recreation, as it's alarmingly close. I did use a Photoshop faux bold on whatever font I used.

The first one comes the closest. In its way. The dewback thing would be better for Classic Edition, I had a hell of a time with dewbacks on that disc. =)

You can get some pretty nice quality pictures off of starwarz.com. The official DVD has a few small ones as well, which can be upsampled if you use the force properly.

Sluggo - Deleted Magic Part One? That's a hell of a way to try and force me into a part two. =) Currently no plans babe. Also, it's in fullscreen not widescreen and I wouldn't say I "wrote and directed" it ... heheheh. I did conceive and edit it. George wrote and directed, I believe. And hey, don't post 300 dpi pictures, link to them! Edit your post man ...
