Aw man, I guess no more We Hate Movies reading reviews from the IMDB Tribune. đŚ

All those poor trolls and idiots, suddenly silenced. A bit sad, as there was occasionally some gems floating in the sea of crap.

Social media has killed the forums of old. Unfortunately, social media is far from a suitable substitute. Itâs much more stupid and has little sense of community. Canât say IMDBâs message boards were really a shining example of that, though.
@Wook ⌠letâs hope those miscreants donât suddenly find their way here, LOL.
Weâd only have to worry about the Star Wars segment, and there are plenty of other forums they could stink up. đ

When I got regular Internet access in December 2007, I believe IMDbâs SW boards where were I first learned about the discontent many had for the PT/SEs. I began to regularly visit the boards to read the discussions, though I couldnât join in on them 'cause I wasnât able to authenticate my account.
I finally did authenticate my account in 2012, but I never did become a regular poster. By that point I was already posting here and had all but retired from TFN, so I no longer had an overwhelming desire to get into the SW discussions there. It was also by this time that I finally began noticing the general lack of camaraderie between the posters and all the âthis movie needs a remake/worst movie of all time/sheâs fat and/or uglyâ troll threads. That combined with IMDbâs stupid policy of deleting older threads left me with no desire to linger there.
Itâs both funny and sad watching the same people doing the same old crap on there with only ten days left to go. It will no doubt be difficult for some of them going back to writing their opinions in crayon, or on bathroom walls. đ

I found the IMDB forums useful for looking up obscure information. Unfortunately, many forums are shutting down as they are becoming a less and less justifiable cost and liability to moderate with so many trolls and bots.

Agreed mate, and the relatively anonymous mask of sitting behind the keyboard and posting hate and drivel has given rise to an army of trolls, baiters and bots - from news comments sections, to IT, to comedy - all across the media in general.
However, IMDB (a subsidiary of Amazon still?) is one of the few companies out there that could hire enough skilled/experienced moderators to do more of job weeding out the shite on their boards - though they have decided not to until it has become so bad they no longer want to be associated with their own boards.
Itâs a bit disappointing to be honest from IMDB - as others have posted out - the trolls will still exist and just find new safer places to continue to post their hate/shite etc (NIMBY - but your yard is ok).
And the good, interesting and insightful posts lost for goodâŚ
A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some helpâŚ

âHow do I do this?â on the OriginalTrilogy.com; some info & answers + FAQs - includes info on how to search for projects and threads on the OTâ˘com
A Project Index for Star Wars Preservations (Harmyâs Despecialized & 4K77/80/83 etc) : A Project Index for Star Wars Fan Edits (adywan & Hal 9000 etc)
⌠and take your time to look around this site before posting - to get a feel for this place. Donât just lazily make yet another thread asking for projects.
I would think other venues would have more active moderation than IMDB though.

The hours I spent blocking people so I could hold something like a reasonable conversation.
I had some fun anonymous relationships on IMDB over the years.
Now the site it totally redundant.
Without the boards I have no need to use it.
A decade ago I was able to meet the twins who played Elora Dannon, future empress of Tir Asleen thanks to the IMDb boards. I didnât actually contact them there, but one left contact info, and I got to befriend them on MySpace. One has a kid of her own even. That was cool. Too bad about losing the worthwhile stuff.
Shouldnât we try to divert at least a couple of people here? There are threads such as this one:

Where can we discuss Star Wars other than IMDB?
Yeah thatâs what we need, MORE people asking for invites to myspleen.
Just kidding. Sortof.
Look like they nuked the boards a little early, or else theyâre on the East coast.
There is at least one attempt to save the old boards on a new site.
