Star Wars 1992 VHS styled DVD covers

Hello, I'm interested in making DVD covers for the original trilogy based off the 1992 VHS editions. Those were my favorite of the VHS' with the poster arts. I've seen a few based off the 1990 and 1995 VHS' but not much for the '92s. However, I do need some assistance. I need clean copies of the collages used on the back covers. I also need a good copy of the ANH artwork. I've found some clean copies of that artwork but I need one with more image on the far right so I'm able to properly center the image on the front cover. For example, the copies I keep finding have the corner of Vader's helmet cut off. I need one without it cutoff. Someone also mentioned in a previous thread of the 'smaller' Lando on the VHS/Laserdisc's of ROTJ. All the logofree versions of that artwork I can find have 'bigger' Lando. Anyone willing to help out here??? Below is an image I found that someone did of the ESB cover.

I made a 92 set a few years ago, but lost them after a hard drive failure. They were on photobucket, but were removed after photobucket turned into a shit site.

Maybe somebody still has them. I spent many sleepless nights replicating the collages on the backs.

Somebody might have them still. If you have any luck finding any info on them, I'd love to get them to actually save them like I have my other sets.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Wow, those look great! That’s the VHS edition that was given to my mom by my aunt and so that is the one I grew up with.

Even though it would mean putting my Blurays in DvD cases I my use those for my DE Blu Rays because those are my favorite home video covers of all time.

Now if I could find a way to resize them for a Blu Ray case that would be amazing but I will take what I can get, because I love the look of those things so much.

My ratings for the Star Wars movies. EP1 4.5/10. Ep2 4.0/10. EP3 2.0/10. EP4 9.5/10. EP5 10/10 EP6 8.5/10 EP7 8.3/10.

I actually have similar covers, but sized for Blu Rays. I’ll post them once I get home.

Thanks, that would be great. I love those old VHs covers, too bad I banged them up so much when I was a kid. 😃

EyeShotFirst, is there a reason you forgot the image of Yoda on the back cover of ESB?? Also this was discussed in another thread but does anyone by any chance have a logofree version of the ROTJ artwork but with the ‘smaller’ Lando like on the VHS cover?? The only logofree version of that artwork that I can find has ‘larger’ Lando.

Anyone here who can help find that ‘smaller Lando’ print of the ROTJ artwork?? Also does anyone happen to have any large scans of the back covers of these UK covers?? They seem to be the best source for textless or close to textless copies of the '92 back cover collages. Thanks!!

I think FrankT may have done some 1992 covers (in amongst some quality covers of various sets he has done) - may be worth having a look through his thread here - http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Franks-Star-Wars-DVDBD-Covers/id/47698 - or PMing him mate

Are these by EyeShotFirst any good for you mate? (may need some tinkering… it has US spelling and the layout is a little different, though the black background should make it easier to edit etc?)

and the full size files can be found, viewed and downloaded from here:-

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ByfjLkYDj7bROVVsSXFCQWxvS1k?usp=sharing

(it’ll be in the ‘EyeShotFirst 1992’ folder - there are a few others on there which may be of interest)

I’m not 100% sure but think I saw a vhs set of these got for something ridiculous like £5 on ebay uk not so long ago - may be worth keeping an eye out on there too for another cheap set - especially if the covers are in good condition.

Also, if any of the users in this thread are still around - http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/1992-VHS-release-of-the-OT/id/13108 - they may be able to help you with a good scan of the back covers?

Thanks for the post. I might tinker with those. I’m also considering making a simple DVD sleeve modeled after the box set artwork and have all three discs in the one case. I was also checking out ebay.co.uk incase they had any editions. So I got some work to do.

In the meantime, I created a DVD sleeve based off the outer box. Another option I figured I could do is getting a DVD case thats fits three discs and use this. The poster collage is a bit softer looking than I’d like it to be but its not too bad. I adjusted it best I could. It’ll likely look better in a cover. If anyone wants a full sized copy PM me.

I have a slightly updated version of my TRILOGY DVD sleeve. The posters collage is somewhat better, less fuzzy than the one I used. PM me if interested in a copy.

I reckon these would look absolutely stunning made into a matte digipack hard cover style case that fitted into a similar matte custom boxset. I think I might make that my mission for my first self made custom boxset 😄

Thanks though I think I’ve already got a copy of these, at least an earlier version. I’ve been searching this subforum for a while now to try and find my personal favourites for a DSE custom boxset. It’s so hard though as there are so many amazing options to pick from, I almost can’t choose!

This is a bit off topic but because this is my thread I’ll just ask. Anyone know what font the word TRILOGY in the logo on the '92 set is???
