It’s sad that this topic is still pinned to the top of this forum section.
The Rogue One Spoilers thread ideally should have taken it’s place months ago.
I’m tempted to get the 3D disc set but I’m never going to be able to see it in 3D so is it worth it?

Sad? Really?

The answer to your question depends how badly you want that commentary.

It’s only sad now that Rogue One is literally almost a month away from being released.

And there’s little-to-no hype…

Oh here yes but Star Wars discussion in the General Board is minimal. In general people are pretty excited for this film but not as excited as they were for TFA 😄

Of course. This isn’t the first Star Wars movie since the prequels.

No it’s the second.
And the first was a year ago.

Yep. We had to wait ten years for the next Star Wars movie after three awful ones, now we had to wait one year for the next Star Wars movie after a good one. It’s completely logical most people wouldn’t be quite as jazzed this time around.

Author

To be fair I’m still pretty jazzed.

I wish I was jazzed so I could relive the hype I experienced in 2014 and 2015. My obsession with Star Wars has significantly depleted compared to last years and the year befores, which sucks.

Not enough people read the EU.

I don’t think I’ll ever be as hyped for anything as I was for TFA ever again. I’m interested in Rogue One, but not terribly excited. I’m sure I will be as the movie gets closer, but by this time last year I was counting down the minutes.

I’m still more excited about Rogue One than I’ve been for anything non-SW in longer than I can remember, but yeah, it’s not anywhere near the same level as TFA. I imagine I’ll be losing my mind for VIII this time next year, but even then it won’t be the same. Which is fine and to be expected, given that I spent most of my life wishing for a sequel trilogy that I never believed would happen and then three years obsessively anticipating it. Now that A.) new SW movies are a definite, concrete thing and B.) they’re coming out annually, we’ll just never have that situation again.

I’m possibly more excited for Rogue One than I was for TFA…Though I actively try not to get too hyped as I can easily imagine a film that is impossibly good in my head and become disappointed!

It might have something to do with the fact I have an emotional connection to more things that will appear in Rogue One than appeared in TFA. If I had too choose between more SW we’ve had before or completely new SW I’d choose more of the old. I’m hoping it will not only be a good film in its own right but also enrich ANH.

IMHO the film that would best enrich ANH is Star Wars (1977).

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

I’m really excited for Rogue One because it’s a Star Wars experience like we’ve never seen before it’s going to give me the feeling of something new just like walking into Suicide Squad not knowing what to expect I’ll be walking into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story not knowing what to expect until I have seen the movie.

By the way Han shot first.

Your sample clips are deleted scenes from The Force Awakens - so if you’re claiming them as sample clips from Episode VIII they are indeed fake.

Yeahhhh… not sure I’d be clicking any of those links haha.

In other news, I’m definitely more hyped for Rogue One than I am for Episode VIII. Mostly for nostalgia reasons.

And that’s not to say I’m not super hyped for Episode VIII.

As of now…I agree but once the first teaser trailer hits it’s du dunn dunn. Let me even see a new photo of Rey, Luke or Kylo Ren and I’ll change my stance on the spot.

This is how I feel. It’ll literally be impossible to ever be excited for anything as much as TFA. If was the follow up to the OT, after so many years. Probably better not to compare to that.

Still, it’s actually kind of absurd how unexcited I am for Rogue One. When I think about it, I should be, but what I feel, it’s just not there. I could probably never see it and it wouldn’t really irk me at all.

Part of this is just because I see the story as extraneous (I mean obviously it’s its own thing but there’s no immediacy to seeing it in regards to the larger narrative). The main thing though I think is because I’ve really kept myself far away from the promotional stuff. I have not seen a single second of footage. So while I’m not excited, because I haven’t seen what I should be excited for, that’s by design. I want to be taken by surprise. I think that’d be fun. And if it sucks? Who cares. But I think it should be good.

Meanwhile I’m already pumping up for VIII. Can’t wait for that, and only a little over a year away. I think that’s my main beef with the anthologies, is that it’s too much too soon. My TFA lead up lasted all year (with books, comics, etc.). I’ll do that again next year but I can’t have my whole life taken up by SW, so sorry Rogue One.

Also, I’d love to hear the argument for reading Catalyst before RO.
