Loved the atmosphere of the early Resident Evil games (late at night in a dark room with the sound turned up!) - and also the fun, playability and addictiveness of the Super Metroid.

Serious Sam was decent, though a little repetitive after a while (still a good blast though)

The Last Of Us looks intriguing…

May have to play Quake again too 😃

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Mega man x3-The Zero Project.

A rom hack of mega man x3 that lets you play as zero and switch between him and x at any time and removes the limits on when zero can be played. Gives zero new dialogue and makes story tweaks. Makes it more like the Mega man x5 onward, although you can switch mid level like in the ps2 games.

Also they sped up the z saber slash. Zero can use special weapons and get armor upgrades, also gets the double jump like in later games.

I’ve played around with it just to test it and it’s a lot of fun but I need to do an actual playthrough of it.

Keep in mind with Metal Gear that you need to play the games in order of release, not chronologically. It’s sort of a Star Wars prequels situation where the prequels spoil the sequels.

Here’s the proper order to play them in:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - Peace Walker - V

////

I’ve been meaning to play through the Dark Souls series, just started Bloodborne and I’m having a blast!

paja, are these games on your “need to play” list, games that you have not ever played before? If not, what are the qualifications for a game being added to your list?

Yes yes yes yes!

I’d argue that you can probably go 1 - 2 - 4 - 3 - Peace Walker - V (so, do the Solid Snake games first, then the Big Boss flashback games last), though 4 will spoil some of 3. But Peace Walker is very much a direct sequel to 3, so … *shrug*

(We don’t talk about Portable Ops.)

Oh, and it should go without saying that you play MGSV: Ground Zeroes before MGSV: The Phantom Pain, but you can buy both in one package now (both on the same disc), so that might now be moot point.

Even Better.

If you have the patience for them, the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake are included in every edition of Metal Gear Solid 3 from the “Subsistence” PS2 rerelease onward. So they’re included in the HD Collection and Legacy Collection, but you have to go start MGS3 and go into its extras menu to find them.

Note that you’ll almost certainly need a guide/walkthrough for them, especially for MG2:SS.

They’re not essential (and MGS1 is largely a remake of MG2:SS in 3D, though it is also a sequel and references the events of MG2:SS throughout), but I enjoyed them.

Thank You. Also I was told that the ending for MGS 4 was One Hour. is this true?

MGS1-4 are all very cutscene-heavy. If I remember right - yes, the final cutscene for 4 is around an hour long. I remember being late to work and almost getting fired because of that…

MGSV is far more focused on gameplay at the expense of story, therefore it’s not nearly as cutscene-heavy. Personally, I was not happy about that, but the gameplay is far and away the best of the series, so YMMV.

Kind of Strange they have not made a MGS Movie. Since from your Words they are very cutscene-heavy. Hmmmmmm

Jordan Vogt-Roberts is making a Metal Gear movie. He did Kong: Skull Island. Not excited though. Most of the charm of Metal Gear is that you’re playing it.

Also I still strongly believe that 4 should be played after 3.

Maybe 1 - 2 - 3 - PW - V - 4, because the ending of MGSV spoils MGS4

Eh, I dunno. I’d either do 100% release order, or first do Solid Snake games, then do Big Boss games. Putting all three BB games between 3 and 4 means you lose even more momentum from 2 into 4 than you already do.

Author
Time

Yeah, release order makes things simpler.

So you’ve never played The Secret of Monkey Island, but you want to? Have you played other point and click adventure games? Monkey Island is fantastic, but it’s 28 years old and I didn’t know people who didn’t grow up with Lucasfilm Games and Sierra Online would still be interested in classic point and clicks these days.

The Curse of Monkey Island and King’s Quest VI are two of my all-time old school favorites.

If you really are going to get into the King’s Quest series, I must warn you that Sierra adventure games allow for death, and sometimes experimentation with items can render your current game unwinnable. So save early, save often, and don’t overwrite if you don’t have to.

That being said, King’s Quest games (or rather most point and clicks) can be completed in a few hours (or less) if you know what you’re doing.

And finally, instead of playing the original King’s Quest I, II, or III, I recommend playing the KQ fan remakes from AGDI, which are free to download from their site, have VGA graphics, voices, and fix many unwinnable situations the original games allowed.

Also, MusicallyInspired worked on the music and sound for KQ2+ and KQ3R.
