Hi everyone!
This is my first time posting on this forum, although I have lurked for awhile. I want to first off, thank everyone who was involved with putting these amazing editions together. It’s something I’ve wanted to own for a long time, and thanks to those who made them, I can now enjoy these how I’ve wanted them since '97!
I went with versions:
Star Wars- 2.7
ESP- 2.0
RoTJ- 2.5
and also have the special features discs
I wanted to do something that would standout on my shelf, but also look like it was an official release (much like a lot of people here), while making it stand out a little bit. I decided that I wanted to use the Steelbook releases (I have always liked the steelbook covers, and since I’m terrible at using photo editing software). I knew that the single disc tray that was included with the official release was never going to work for what I had in mind.
After a few hours of research, I decided that it was time to take a crack at disassembling them. Turns out, it was far easier than I anticipated. I had a couple of gift cards burning a whole in my pocket, and bought 3 copies of the Wal-Mart exclusive 2012 Total Recall remake 3 disc set (for less than $6 each). After I was able to take them all apart, I started to reassemble the Star Wars copies. The hardest part was removing the spine (I used a small putty knife, and carefully ran it against the case, to not damage the art work printed on the reverse side) The spine is also printed on metal, so I had to be careful not to bend it. Even then, it took less than a minute on each one. After cleaning of the glue (soaked it for 5-10 seconds in warm water, then just spent a few minutes scraping it off with a finger nail), I applied some clear double sided tape, and stuck the Star Wars labels, to the T.R. cases. Then, just snap the front and back covers back on!
The Disc labels (as some of you will be able to recognize instantly), were from the DVD 2 Disc set, with the GOUT Theatrical Cuts. I liked the disc art a lot, and thought it was way better than the plain white face of the Blu-Ray. With the help of a buddy, I got some disc labels, used a scanner, and sized them up. In retrospect, I wish we added some Blu-Ray logos somewhere, but oh well.
Each set also has the 2011 version, which was included in the Steelbook release.
