For anyone who hasn't checked out the "Any Chess Players Out There?" thread lately, we're trying to put together a tournament. Right now, it looks like the games will be played at The Scheming Mind internet chess site. Scheming Mind allows people to sign up for a free account and play up to 20 games simultaneously and join 1 "mini-tournament". You're presented with a chess board after colors are agreed upon, then you enter your move with your mouse. Each person is notified via email when it's their turn. Time controls still need to be agreed on, but I think we're leaning towards 30 days/+1 day per move.

I hope to get 8 people to join so we can play two "quads", meaning players 1-4 each play eachother once, and the same for 5-8, with the two best records playing eachother for the OT title! I haven't worked out draws yet. I'll be setting up the tournament asap.

I would love to join this but I'm in the middle of a big move and won't be on the internet as often as usual. In fact, I will probably be on quite rarely over the next month or so.

I'll join in. I won't register at that website right now, but as soon as I can I will, and I'll search for an oponent. I'm not very good though.

Oh and please, NO cheating. Don't use software to plan the next move.

I'm going to wait one more day prior to setting up so hopefully we can get a couple of more people in and so I can think about how to do it. Please let me know when you're registered and your username so I can put you on my Buddy List. The tourney will be restricted to only people on my list.

If nobody has objections, I'll try to hold off for about 2 weeks or so to give people time to settle down from whatever they're doing right now. This will give people who have time an opportunity to get familiar with the site and maybe play a couple of practice games and warm up, and maybe we'll get a few more players involved. Thoughts?

I'm also leaning towards the following. Please, please tell me if you don't like the conditions or feel something's unfair. I don't want anyone to feel like they're being dragged into anything.

If, If we get 8 people, we play two quads as stated above. I'll put the 8 player names into a box or something and assign them numbers, then pull them out and "randomize" them as nums 1-8. Players 1-4 each play eachother, as do 5-8. Players with the best record in both quads to play for the championship. 1 win = 1 point, draws being .5 points with immediate rematch.

To assign colors, I'll put two names for each person in the box, one being labeled white the other black, and draw them until I get a matchup. So, for example I'll assign Sage, Player #2 White and Sage, Player #2 Black, then draw another name based on whichever one comes out with my name.

I know I'm giving this waaaaay too much thought but I want it to be fair for everyone and for us to have a good time.

Once we've got enough people I'll start the tourney. Not sure if the site randomizes players and assigns them or not. I will find out. If not, I will draw opponents according to a previous post: Put everyone's name into one hat, numbers in another, draw a player and a number, then we'll set up the quads (hopefully).

i donno if ill be able to play on the starting day since i have a business trip to van from now till the 6th. ill register and everything, i donno if HLF wants to play ill as her to night, in the mean time i am going to sign up. ill be on there as shimy, or shimmy, or shimraa, or shimrra. ill try the names in that order if one is taken ill try the next one.

Edit: just checked out your site. In all honestly RedHotPawn is better.
