Luke did something we’ve never seen any other Jedi do before. He projected a solid version of himself across unimaginable distances and could interact with Leia and even Threepio. That had to come with a price. In the end, Luke saved the day one last time and went out a hero.

I didn’t get that from the movie at all. If that had been communicated more clearly to the audience it might not have felt so insulting to me.

I think the whole reason why there was salt on the ground was so that they could show us that Luke isn’t real in that scene. Plus, it was flashback Luke using a lightsaber that had just been destroyed the scene before. Unless you’re talking about the philosophical meaning of the scene instead of the literal; if so, I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

You didn’t notice Luke had lost the gray? Jedi’s don’t stop to use Grecian Forumla. 😉

I meant the death itself. I fully understood the projection thing and that Luke wasn’t really there on Crait. That was obvious from the beard color and the lightsaber he was using.

Just got back, thought it was really, really good. A few issues that other people mentioned (the casino world stuff was pretty bad, Benicio’s stutter was pointless, Yoda looked a bit off, etc) but mostly I got what I wanted. Luke was handled so great.

8.5/10 right now. Sure to change after I see it again Sunday.

And it’s nice to see some of the “it sucked” crowd is still around from the last two times.

JEDIT: To be fair the “it sucked” comments have been fairly tame for the most part so far. I doubt that will last though.

JEDIT 2: Oh yeah there’s another thread.

Yoda looked really weird in the medium shots but close up it was much better. Also he had some nice lines. But mixed bag I guess. Leia in space kinda worked for me to be honest, it was like y’know the Force.

Same, this is one complaint I’ve been seeing that I don’t really agree with.

I think the execution was a little goofy, but I had no problem at all with the concept. I was happy to roll with it.

I think that scene would have benefited from more subtlety. Instead of a long shot of Leia flying through space back to the ship, maybe keep on close ups of her hand or her face, with the space particles visibly moving around her to indicate she was somehow moving through the debris. Poe and co’s reactions to it can stay.

But I don’t think we needed to see her Skywalking so overtly.

I’m cool with the concept too though. It’s kinda rad.

At least the burning question of whether Leia can actually use the Force beyond sensing things is answered.

I’m guessing Rian Johnson’s new trilogy will have something to do with those kids.

Depending on when it’s actually set. Might be centuries removed from the Star Wars we know.

Was that even being thought about while TLJ was actually in production?

I have no idea. Still, it could jump ahead to those kids being all grown up and going on New Jedi Order* adventures.

*No relation to the books, probably. I’ve never read them and don’t much care to.

Yoda looked weird in a few shots, not much like the original puppet, more akin to his portrayal in that episode of Rebels. They nailed it in a few shots tho.

hope all the deleted scenes appear on the blu-ray or dvd. and without timecode on em, damnit.

Horrible though - are the gold dice being set up to connect the dots in the Solo movie…?

Possibly mate - though they have always been there (I never noticed until someone let me know the other week about them):-

I only remember it being a kind of easter egg / 70s prop joke / Visual Dictionary detail

The old Marvel comic never forgot about them.

I believe KK said she proposed the prospect to Rian after shooting finished.

I liked the dice. Though they make me miss Lando as well as Han. I’m sure they’re playing sabacc in space-scoundrel heaven. Unless Lando’s alive, of course, but we haven’t seen him so we don’t know.

I half expected to see him on the casino planet. I’ve imagined him actually owning a casino made out of derelict Star Destroyer hulls welded together.
Maybe he retired to Cloud City and is out of the loop on what’s been going on in the galaxy? Bespin always seemed like a planet well off the beaten path.

Hey you guys, WHERE WAS SNAP WEXLEY?! Are we to believe he died in the opening space battle without any acknowledgement?

who else feels that episode 9 will take place several years later. That i think would be the best way to deal with carrie fisher’s death. a funeral scene just to acknowledge her passing kind of the way they did leonard nimoy’s passing in star trek 3

Author

Yeah, I really want to see a time jump of 5 years of so. In addition to making it possible to deal with Leia’s exit offscreen, it would also give the Resistance time to rebound and become a credible threat to the First Order. Mostly though, I’m not happy that the ST thus far seems to take place in the span of a month. I really want to expand this timeline some.

I mentioned this, I thought it was funny how easily a main character of the Aftermath books was killed off.

Not enough people read the EU.
