I think that style of police box is a bit older, as I saw one in a 1930’s British film. Unless it really was the Tardis.

It’s a darn good thing Curzon Dax wasn’t a regular on TNG before DS9. 😉

They’ve GOT to do a team-up special and have Joanna Lumley back - even if it’s just for a Children in Need/Comic Relief spoof seeing the two of them together would be a hoot.

Not a fan of spoilers and I tried my absolute best to avoid the new doctor news but found out whilst reading a movie website article about D23. This happened when Capaldi was announced too - I like surprises Internet, stop spoiling my ignorance.

I like the casting choice though, as long as they don’t continually reference the doctor’s gender as the series progresses I think we’re in for a something fun and interesting.

The Doctor is The Doctor - albeit a Gallifreyan - whether young, old, white, black, male, female - or even ginger.

We have seen / been told that Gallifreyans regenerate into a different sex before too - The Corsair or The Master/Missy for example…

Think we will ever see a male Romana or Rani?

Fred? Yes, why not?

huh?

Inflamatory but too funny not to post…

Come on people calm down. Think of all the fun there is going to be in the first episode. The usual hilarity watching The Doctor discover he’s got a new body but doubly so! I’m crossing my fingers that when The Doctor reaches for the dressing up box, it is short of female clothes and has to try a few of Tegan and Peri’s old cast offs LOL

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

There’s that tired excuse again. This “precedent” was created after Moffat was accused of sexism and the new fangirls started demanding a female Doctor. Since then to combat that image he kowtowed and started to introduce those elements. Nowhere in the classic series is something like this hinted at. If NuWho can’t get the Doctor’s age right, I’m certainly not going to trust it with something like this.

I’ll be watching the Christmas Special and first episode of series 11 but will probably be stopping after that. I would not be surprised to see the show’s ratings start to drop after this.

Not so much a ‘tired excuse’ if it is new, no?

To me it’s all the same series - Doctor Who.

We also recently saw a Gallifreyan regenerate from an old white man into a young black woman - just seemed to be part of the Gallifreyan life.

Did it ever happen before Missy came along? Did it ever happen in the old series? We went 50 years without a regeneration causing a gender change. Moffat added that capability for PC reasons, as oojason said.

Romanadvoratrelundar seemed to be too long a name when she introduced herself to the Doctor. He had trouble pronouncing the full name, and quickly shortened it to “Romana”, though given the choice of being called “Romana” or “Fred” she told him to call her “Fred”.

So yes, Fred. Why not?

The idea of stopping to watch a TV show because a woman is a main character is ridiculous to me.

You missing the point. This isn’t because the main character is female. This is because a character who was male

FOR OVER 50 YEARS!!!

is now suddenly female. Its stupid and done not for quality of the show or for the fans, but to please the feminists.

I’m not sure if you noticed, but a lot of things have changed from 50 years ago.

No need to yell at me also.

Why does this character have to be man? Isn’t it about time that we had a woman one? Wasn’t it about time that we had a woman as the main character of two (!) Star Wars movies?

I’m also not sure why you have such a problem with feminists.

Before Moffet pasted this changing gender thing in with Missy, there were at least 20 regenerations of multiple characters in the old and new series. In none of those twenty did gender change. None of them. Now all of the sudden, they can gender.

For some reason, I don’t think this is about the historical precedent of the series.

the first time we saw Dax and got to learn about the character it was after Dax has switched genders. Also we didn’t get Dax switching hosts 12 times over 50 years and never once switching gender.

Dr. Crusher’s male Trill lover, (our introduction to the species on TNG) did switch genders.

Refresh my memory, weren’t people kvetching that Capaldli was too old when he was cast? IIRC, some thought Peter Davidson was a bit young back in 1982. No matter who is cast in the role, somebody is going to have a cow.
And lest we forget, regeneration wasn’t even conceived of until Hartnell was leaving the role back in 1966.

Was that a character someone we knew for over 50 years as one gender? Did the character switch hosts 12 times over that 50 years, not once changing gender?

btw, it went into hosts that had different gender, the Trill symbiont itself did not switch gender.

I am not a fan of Capaldi.

No one could ever say he was too old, not unless they forgot about Hartnell.

irrelevant.
