I hate the Young Turks as much as the next guy, but I don’t think Mankiewics is a huge proponent of their bullshit. I guess he’s complicit, but he seems nice.

Alright, so I just found out that Ben Mankiewics does contribute to TYT, but only regarding Films & Sports. I still don’t lump Ben with Cenk and his main crew that deal with politics, social issue and other topical discussions. Yes, I agree, he does seem nice, just as long as he sticks to Films & Sports.

You can easily find videos of Mankiewics on TYT doing more than talking about Films & Sports. Look it up. He is one of them.

Well, that’s news to me. I’ll have to check that out, further still.

He’s the co-founder of the thing.

I wouldn’t describe it as derailed and spun out of control.

Ok maybe so, but it possibly could’ve.

Maybe, but I think it needs to be remembered that normal conversation in the real world naturally goes from one subject to another.

Lol, how is that relevant to the fact that this obituary thread has turned into a thread about some TCM host who I’ve never heard of and don’t care about?

It hasn’t turned into a such thread, the conversation in it turned to that for a page and a bit. It started out about the death a TCM host(which is on topic) and then turned to his probable replacement. You may not care about some TCM host, it doesn’t mean others don’t though.

My point is relevant in that sometimes maybe conversation has to be allowed some room to evolve and go off on small tangents for a bit. It is the way natural conversation works.

Rest assured if some significant death had occurred in the middle of the conversation, it would have been discussed here and either the tangent conversation would have ceased or would have been delayed. The tangent didn’t really block any on topic discussion.

I enjoyed 2013’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty starring Ben Stiller. “Ground control to Major Tom.”

I don’t care if it blocked on-topic discussion or not, I have no interest in reading about it. And even though I keep opening this thread expecting to find something relevant was posted, it keeps not happening.

If others care about it, go make a thread that I can ignore.

But please let’s spend another few pages arguing about it.

Oh well. The same sort of thing has happened to me in other threads(sometimes in tangents that you are involved in ) and I have let it pass. Sometimes this has happened in threads I created and tangent(again sometimes involving you) became permanent and I was forced to put up with it.

If others care about it, go make a thread that I can ignore.

  1. I am not sure it was worth a whole other thread.

  2. Sometimes it takes bit to see that conversation is going off in a tangent and sometimes by the time this is realized, the tangent may had ended.

But please let’s spend another few pages arguing about it.

Whatever you wish.

I just remembered I think we had thread to take small off topic tangents that broke out in various, where such tangents weren’t worth their own thread for. What happened to that thread? Oh yeah, it was soundly rejected and locked.

For the record, Mankiewicz isn’t the “probable” replacement, he is the replacement and has been picking up for Osborne for years now.

And I really don’t know much about The Young Turks or why people hate them so much, but the fact of the matter is his involvement in that has nothing to do with his TCM hosting abilities.

A bit more on topic, I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to go to more TCM in theater events when Osborne was still around (or actually make it out to their festival in person). One I did get to see was Singin’ in the Rain, which had an interview attached between Osborne and Debbie Reynolds. It was pretty fun to watch. Sad to see them both gone now.

That’s very true. I was worried it would get further off topic, and didn’t want it to get out of hand.
