Yeah, I think in the story of Ascendant, Kylo has a clearer idea of the spirit transfer angle than Rey. In the theatrical, yeah, Rey should say, “But you’ll just overwrite me.” Here she may plausibly believe that stepping onto the dreaded Sith throne may be the only way to take control.

It’s not great, but I think we’re already a good step in a better direction from the theatrical, thanks to RogueLeader.

I think the shoot has improved …
What is your opinion?

Fantastic! The only thing that ever bothered me about the original was how it clearly looked taken straight out of ROTS, but this is a huge improvement.

1000%. Big improvement to something already perfect. Let me know when you have the ‘phantom four’ with purple saber how you’re happy with it.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Redux Ideas thread

Sometimes I feel like a relic about this stuff anymore. My prequel edits didn’t do all that much that was truly original, just ‘Brothers Grimm’ing a textual lineage of edits that came before.

It’s an ongoing conversation and process.

There will come a point when I will say, “I will fan edit no longer,” and call after you, “Save the [film in question], save the dream.”

Removing the echoey screams of Rey and her mother as Rey picks up the dagger in Kylo’s chambers is tricker than you might think, but I got it.
I had to lift the rear channels from when she first picks it up underground (same musical sting) and apply them to the rear and front channels and milk about a second’s worth of clean audio from earlier in the scene of the empty ambience of Kylo’s chamber. I moved the Sith whisper to cover the gap and added a fainter one when she first handles the blade.

Although, in this version of things, she could still have Ben be something new to see on Tatooine.

My intuition about the whole ghost thing, ignoring anything other than the nine films in a vacuum is this:

Force sensitive people die and become one with the Force the same as anyone else, and this isn’t viewed as a bad thing. Ashes to ashes. Then, Yoda hears from Qui-Gon from beyond the grave. Evidently he happened upon some secret to preserving his consciousness in a way that still lets him meld with the Force. He’s not clinging to life unnaturally, it’s just… I don’t know, it’s serene or something. Anyway, he discovered this and it probably was an ancient thing he rediscovered. (This is an unknown ability up to this point at least as far as modern Jedi are concerned.) Qui-Gon teaches this ability to Yoda and Obi-Wan, and they are able to take it further by physically vanishing upon death and manifesting visually. This surprises Vader when it happens. When Anakin dies, Yoda and Obi-Wan (and perhaps Qui-Gon) help him to merge with the Force in the way they did. Anakin appears to Luke restored and fulfilled. Luke learns this ability as well, passing it to Leia and Ben Solo. Yoda gets really good at this, and hardly appears blur at all. He can hit people with his ghost cane, too.

Then, Rey gets the idea from what I can only imagine is the Jedi equivalent of the Bible that one can learn to hear the voices of dead Jedi. This doesn’t make apparent sense, given that when experiencing exactly this Yoda concluded Qui-again discovered immortality. But I imagine there must be some difference between the sort of vocal presence in TROS and true immortality.

Ugh, what a mess. The Jedi should just have had this ability consistently. But I still feel better maintaining separation between voices and visual appearances, as though up to that point the phantom four are perhaps the only four Jedi ghosts in existence.

I think a Shaw version would be awesome to see, and I’d be tempted to use it, but I do feel Hayden is better for this because he absolutely would have been there in the theater in 2019.

It’d also be awesome to see Hayden mapped onto Shaw in a seamless way in ROTJ, but then again I think any of that kind of stuff would be fun to see. But I have no interest in seeing Hayden in ROTJ. I really like the statement I always inferred from the original version that when Anakin died, he was ‘restored’ rather than ‘reverting’ back to the version of himself that was about turn evil anyway. Redemption, not undoing it.

As I thought about the possibility we could see Anakin in TROS before it’s release, I hoped they would at least let Hayden appear somewhat older than he did in ROTS. No long hair, but not necessarily elderly either. Just to break from “I am literally exactly how I was right before turning evil.” It probably would’ve looked too silly, but I’d have even liked to have him made up to resemble Shaw, maybe just his hair even.
