I wouldn’t want to remove the “all the Sith” line without reason, although I wouldn’t say I’m crazy about any of this dialogue. lol

If you say the words out loud, “I am all the Jedi” and “I am a Jedi” you’ll notice the second has a more pronounced gap between the last two words. I know it’s probably super tricky, but I need to push you on it, y’know?

I’ll download them and use Plex. It was too bad, i was looking forward to settling down and watching one last night!

I passed this project along to someone I encountered through work who mentioned thinking about rewatching TCW but said, “But there’s no way I can do allll that again.”

Hahaha, boy oh man.

Truly, I don’t have a problem with Kylo wanting to goad Rey into helping him kill her. To me, I can infer the dyad thing Kylo drops accounts for things well enough. (It’s stupid, but at least the nuts and bolts of the “logic” check out.)

The more I think about it, I think just removing “[and] me [on the throne of the Sith, Finn]” and “We’ll kill him together [and take the throne]” would work just fine. Kylo stokes Rey into wanting to kill Palpatine by dropping some knowledge about her parents, and then tries to cash in.

Also, suggestions for something to finish Kylo’s line with, using masked dialogue?

“We’ll kill him together _________.”

“We’ll kill him together [and nothing will stand in our way]” I think is what RogueLeader was pursuing.

I mean, it could be okay to just let Kylo talk about killing him. He killed Snoke and seemed like it would have killed Palpatine at the opening of TROS. So it’s in character for his motivations. But making it tempting for Rey is the thing. But he did just reveal that Palpatine killed her parents, and she says in the next scene that she would really like to kill him. Maybe it tracks well enough.

Wow, Sherlock, that really works pretty damn well! I read about it and the discussion before being able to actually plug in earphones and listen to it.

But you know how this stuff always goes: it needs some improvement yet. I think Rey’s “[and] I” sounded just a little abrupt. Is there another instance of her starting a sentence with “I” in a similar voice that could be blended into it?
Her “I am a Jedi” seemed just a little quick. Could it be stretched out a little bit more?

And once we get it sounding flawless, I’d appreciate getting the individual single-channel stems for the dialogue changes. I don’t think I could resist trying to fold them in and sculpt the audio myself too on the off chance I could improve it or at least make it truly ‘native’ to the rest of the timeline.

This is an exciting change, but one that I would really only use if it was totally flawless. Which it is surprisingly close to being!

I couldn’t find it so I did it myself real quick (maybe I did this on my own originally…)

“And” being cut might be noticeable to some who are aware of the change, but I honestly believe your hypothetical first time viewer, or people who just haven’t seen the movie since release, wouldn’t even notice this change. I moved “Me” up a few frames earlier, and I think the slight shift helps sell it as well.

I like how Finn assumes it’s Ren with such conviction, only to be left not knowing what to say after Rey says it was her. I think this is the simplest way to handle it.

Cross-posting from the general thread, Hal would you consider this for a change in V2?

Hmmm… interesting, indeed. I guess the intention of the scene originally is to let Rey fear joining Kylo on the throne, which ties into his offer later and explains her violent response in trying to kill him on the DSII. Making this scene all about her rather than her and Ren would help the climax a little. Unless their teaming up is viewable as a fulfillment of this fear in an inverted way.

Idk, I guess it’s all right with me, but has anyone dissented?

It was supposed to jump into hyperspace at the final frames, but the animation looked extremely weird and I couldn’t get that hyperjump trail that poppasketti did.

Put together a little concept for you’re Falcon ending idea.

I think it’d look really good if it flew over briefly instead of instantly jumping to light speed would be such a great ending calling directly back to the first ever Star Wars scene

I could see that working!! Beautiful.

Speaking of extending the ending of TROS, heres a test shot of the Falcon moving across space trying to match the look and lighting of TROS. Unfortunately, Streamable has decided to clip the dark and light values again making it look more contrasty than it should.

Y’know, my brain has a hard time discerning whether it looks like a Blender fan thing or a sophisticated computer panned FX shot from 1977, but it doesn’t strike me as 2019 TROS.

I know that’s terribly helpful, lol.

Eh, it works just fine but I think it’s good to let there be a moment like that with only diegetic changing and no score.

And while I’m open to extending the final shot(s), I’m still skeptical because I do like ending on the suns like that. It’s an attempt at least to make it feel like a real ending to the story.

And I must firmly veto ending on the literal opening shot of ANH.

You mean “all the Sith/Jedi”?

I think by that point in the theater my throat hurt from laughing. I remember really finding it so silly when Palpatine reacted to a second lightsaber being held up, as though to go from 100% confidence to, “Oh, shit, TWO lightsabers kill me.” I’m pretty sure, because we’d been riffing through the whole thing, I leaned over to my brother and said in an Emperor voice, “Oh, no, not TWO lightsabers.”

The “all the Sith” line itself didn’t feel out of place given that the movie alluded to spirit transfer and consciousness merging. I was wondering if that meant Palpatine was Darth Bane in a sense.

The “all the Jedi” line just felt like the obvious response. It was predictable, and didn’t really pack a punch. I was wondering how the Jedi were speaking given ROTS establishing that Yoda felt Qui-Gon had discovered this for the first time.

I also felt the victory moment fell totally flat, saying, “There’s no WAY you can tell me that he’s dead for good this time. NOTHING is different, and certainly not more decisive, than how he died in ROTJ.” It’d be like an episode of Doctor Who making a series-ending-before-hiatus climax about the Master dying; forgetabbowddit!

Jonh’s version of the scene is sublime. It annexes new meaning by having those four specific ghosts show up while the others remain voices, to almost let the ROTS thing make sense. And that closeup of hands being lifted beautifully removes the silliness of having a second saber appear to turn the tide. AND, it now makes sense that Palpatine would be plausibly dead for good, due to the dead themselves tackling him to make sure he makes it to the wood chipper this time.
