The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)

You know who it’d be awesome to get to record something for the 3PO red eye scene, if we go they route?

The guy who voices Creepio for the Auralnauts. I have zero clue whether they’d be interested in doing so, and imagine likely not. I am not sure how a rando would quickly be able to convince them that this isn’t one of “those” fan edit projects. Probably a pipe dream.

The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released)
Time

Oh, good, I assumed that little bit wasn’t on the soundtrack. Thanks!

Also, given what Dat_SW_Guy has been up to, I sketched out how I’d revise the entrance into Mos Eisley:

—-
“We must be cautious.”

Wipe transition, OOT music sourced from OST. Musical sync isn’t important, as long as there’s enough to cover, because the establishing shot will unavoidably be longer than the original version.

2019 establishing shot with speeder approaching from behind. Rats removed.

The shot of people walking around (SE background but no Jawa or ronto elements; essentially the original version with SE backdrop)

Heroes approach checkpoint. OOT imagery, with no ronto in background or floating sentry droid.

After checkpoint, either include SE long shot to pull back and get a better view and the ronto as the speeder pulls up to the cantina and parks, or else include neither.

SE for the remainder of the scene, with animated dewback at the entrance. Add a quiet lead-in to the cantina band music, as a nod to the '77 mono mix.

Do you know whether you’ll comp in the SE Death Star for the shot in which it explodes? I recall trying to use the theatrical explosion and finding that the original model doesn’t jive with the surrounding SE shots. There’s a few frames of static model and then a frame or two in which it gives way to the explosion. I would expect it to be doable by someone in the know.

I still think this might work best as a replacement for the prior castle shot rather than taking up the time of all three shots. It’s good, but its compromises are more noticeable when we have several seconds to see it play out. I’d think if we baked it into the existing three-shot structure and comped in three TIEs, we’d be all set up.

Or maybe use it to replace the first two shots. Could go for two shots’ worth of Nev’s clip, then the TIEs over forest.

The day has finally arrived. I’ve been a regular around here since 2003, and my involvement in this internet community is second to none. Something about the jigsaw puzzle that is Star Wars compressed us into a haven that attracts creativity born out of a sense of need.

Thanks to all of you for the continual space to come day after day and work on things together. Times have changed. We once were passing around DVDs of LaserDisc rips, comparing combing artifacts. Hell, ESB Despecialized 1.0 was a decade ago. We’ve all aged a good 18 years since then. Some of the smart people around here weren’t even born at that point. That’s pretty crazy to weigh out. Members have come and gone. I’ve tried to stay out of drama, and there are those I miss, though fortunately FE.org has retained many of them.

With this 9000th post that doesn’t mean anything other than a high number that happens to match my username, I want to acknowledge my enduring fondness and appreciation for this forum and what it’s meant to me for a rather long time.

That’s an interesting approach, and I could see that working very well for that chunk of the movie. My only concern for the moment is that we’d have to do something with the transition between Rey and Finn’s conversation about her vision to BB8 stumbling onto D0, as V1 has the establishing shot of the Falcon being towed and then the Palpatine-Kylo conversation. I wouldn’t been keen on reinstating the “Chewie’s alive” spoiler scene.

I can’t even keep track anymore, but I think originally Kylo says he “knows where she’s going” as she goes to ~Endor, but I don’t think it’s ever explained how.
