The 3PO thing is only personal preference on my part.
The 3PO thing is only personal preference on my part.
Only problem with Burbin’s line is that Luke’s statement needs to end with a direct mention of Exegol so that Rey can respond with, “I can’t get there.” And the order of shots dictates Luke having to mention the thousand generations before then saying for Leia’s legacy to guide her on Exegol.
Also, JJB, I prefer the delivery of 3PO’s lines about needing a mechanic that were already used in V5 over the updated ones you provide. If you want to try again I can consider alts, but in a direct comparison the old one fares better to me.
All I can think of at the moment is adding short little shots where a character bluntly states the explicit change that the fan editor wants to make.
Han steps out of Maz’s cantina and says, “The First Order, they’ve caught up with us with their flagship and will be coming to get us any minute.”
Finn chastises DJ onboard their stolen getaway ship, “When you casually lead us to this ship after we escaped from our cell, I figured you owned it!”
Rey picks up a dagger from the ground of the underground cave and says, “I sense that this dagger can communicate things to me telepathically, but only if I agree to tap into my inner darkness.”
Sounds all right to me. Thanks, and I’ll come back to this thread to collect everything when I am ready to tend to V5 again. You know me, shouldn’t be too long.
Release the OOT. Also, pause to clarify a meaningful vision to be coordinated across projects and stick to it regardless of naysaying.
And it may not hurt to sort of focus on one time period at once. Current shows would be a nightmare to keep straight in the timeline, if I weren’t already a big fan of SW.
New AI lines for 3PO right before cutting to the podrace sequence. The rest is folding back a couple bits back into the movie, a line or two here and there. I put back Jar Jar’s tongue in Watto’s shop, “sitting ducks,” and a couple other things like that.
I am releasing a V8 update which very well may be the last, though ‘The Man With No Name’ had expressed interest in doing a new color grade and VFX throughout. If he does end up finishing this, I will likely incorporate it to a future update. However, I wanted to release this for now in order for it to stand as final in case this never materializes.
I reinstated a few small moments to avoid breaking up natural pacing, addressed a few technical issues and smoothed a few musical transitions. The main interesting thing is a set of AI lines for 3PO from ‘Jar Jar Bricks’ to solidify the change that Anakin did not build him from scratch.
So, nothing terribly exciting, and mostly maintenance.
“This is my fan edit of Phantom Menace. There are many like it, but this one is mine.”
Yeah, why was the gopher man sabotaging the ship? They didn’t make any sense to me at all.
Thanks. I don’t particularly like the delivery of those two lines, sounds robotic. Could you generate some alts?
I’ve just been stressed lately; let me come back to it.
I had to take a bunch of that sort of thing down due to storage limits, but if there’s anything specific you’d like let me know.
No need, it’d be easy for me to do that. I just didn’t see much reason to re-encode, remux, and redistribute when to my eyes it’s a tossup on which even looks better anyway.
Frankly, it would be more trouble than it’d be worth to me to do. But if anyone at all would like to make that happen, I can provide any and all raw materials.
I’m releasing a Version 4 for ANH, in order to publish the best of what I can do with what I have. That way, in case hoped-for footage from TMWNN, Dat_SW_Guy, or Adywan never materialize, this project can be complete. Or at least not in limbo. The door will remain open to update these OT Custom SE projects if new source material compels it.
The primary difference is a new color grade, which I find more appealing and is based loosely on Adywan’s color corrected 2011 BluRay transfer. (Big thanks to DrDre for his color correction tool; not possible otherwise.) Used DSG’s Alderaan explosion, and TMWNN’s “I don’t like the look of this” to remove foreground CG dewback but keep the one in the background.
On Drive now, will pop up elsewhere soon.
No. They both seem just fine to me, so I don’t plan to.
Drive defaults to the lowest bitrate audio track and won’t let you select one. You gotta download it and play it some other way.
Well. It’ll feel even better once the Rey Nobody version is put to bed as well, but yes. 👏
^ It dawns on me, Nev, that for V4 I think you probably gave me that feedback and I thought “oh well I’ll just fix it for V5.” Then of course for V5 I said “I’ll just use what was in V4.”
Looking at both versions side by side, it did not look wrong enough for me to even question “oh yeah of course, we’re making this look like that because that is what it’s supposed to be.” The rest of the movie has efforts to make things look less blue-green, so I was probably in that mindset of less green meaning preferable.
I hate to bring this up again, but it looks like the final color grade got applied to the Ahch-to scenes as well, unfortunately, turning Luke’s ghost red.
I did have to fudge things just a little since I had a convoluted workflow with it and layers, so when we added shots back in it would have been a lot to redo. I applied a LUT to this portion but only to a slight extent, and faded into and out of it. I looked at V4 to make sure it was in about the same neighborhood of look. Do you think it’s way far off the mark?
V5 is now out. (It’s available on the Drive, and the other places will follow soon.)
Other than to eventually update the Rey Nobody version once the components from others are ready and available for that, this V5 marks the final update this project will receive.
That said, I am happy to make the lossless audio export available to all, and provide the ProRes output to those interested individually (because I can’t host it due to space limitations), so others can build further on it. But, I feel very much fulfilled by how this project has turned out. I do not feel like we were not able to do pretty much anything that we seriously considered and wanted to.
Once again, I cannot thank this community enough for the thrilling group effort this has been, and I consider it a wonderful capstone on the Hal9000 presentation of the main Star Wars saga.
Thank you!!
French is the only language left, thanks very much.
Here are the subtitles I need translated.
you need these in dutch too?
Yes! Sorry, I think my brain started looking at the alphabetical list of languages with ‘English.’
Here are the subtitles I need translated. I sent a few people PM’s, but I am posting this here to increase the odds of getting them all done. A human speaker is preferable over Google Translate.
Also, if you have a copy of TROS with German audio, please send me a PM.
Lines to translate:
“Final lesson, Rey.”
“Leia sensed it during your training.”
“Ever since Skywalker.”
“But everyone’s only out for themselves.”
“Possibly some sort of spy!” (3PO answering “Who are you?”)
“Come home.” (Leia to Ben)
“Horrible things… have happened with this.” (It’s from the original movie, I know, but keeps me from looking up several subtitle files again)
“What’s troubling you, Rey?”
“But Leia feared the hatred that consulted our father… choosing instead to follow our mother’s path. Despite losing everything… and everyone… Leia always chose compassion over hatred.”
“Let Leia’s legacy guide you on Exegol.”
I’ll update the OP once V5 is released, which will be as soon as I can tend to everything.
The Rey Nobody version will be updated once the components for it are completed by others in the Rey Nobody thread, which I’m not involved in. Once what’s needed is ready, I’ll do it.
