You can make the opening crawl last for the entire soundtrack.

By the way, Hal, I saw that in your “Things Completed” section that you renamed me from nl0428 to Master Lawdog. You actually haven’t from looking at the Special Thanks list.
It’s just there until I go through eventually and compose everything for a ‘write up’ for V2. Nothing to worry about yet.
No, it doesn’t mean that at all. Worst case I’ll smash it in there somehow.
Dat, while I don’t have anything actionable about your comment and I’m not sure poppasketti would either, I don’t think those issues would prevent me from using the shots we have for the sequence(s). You likely have sharp, professional eyes that detect things I just don’t.
That’s a good point.
Oh, my! I don’t have Rogue One practically memorized the way I do the saga films, but I just checked Krennick’s arrival on Mustafar and yeah, it’s the same! I never would have guessed the Biomes thing was recreating a shot from the movie.
Nev could have saved a lot of effort it seems by just painting out the shuttle from Rogue One itself.
So, I see what you mean, and flipping it shouldn’t be any problem.
@poppa, just had a thought. Cant you just use the same flight path in reverse and flip the models 180?
I would think that’d only work if the footage were also reversed, which can’t happen because of the mist and vapors.
I think this new shot is just fantastic. I look forward to messing with audio and baking it together to demo. 😃
I do agree with MR. If you consider the space shot before this one and the forest shot after it, we’d have three consecutive shots of TIEs flying away from camera.
I think the castle-in-background is fine. It’d look about the same above the base:

Yeah, is the silhouette we see in MR’s shots where it’s added to the background not passable as the back?
And if poppasketti exports his work as ProRes (or whatever), we could then see about other things like Krennic’s shuttle or what have you.
Maybe turn the shuttle into Vader’s TIE. Ha!
Hey everyone,
Well, I managed to find some time last night to at least get a first pass out!
https://vimeo.com/640958502
pw: faneditI sent over the project files to Nev (including C4D files and models) so he can integrate any color correction or other tweaks he’d like to make.
Oooooooooh my God. Astounding! It’s a really cinematic look! Spooky, even. What joy.
I know what it takes for you to carve out an hour (or maybe not even), so thank you greatly. Hope your wife appreciates it; she should be proud.
And even so, I think it’s one of many things that probably would’ve been just fine if it had been part of the movie to begin with.
Well, I still do rather like the three-shot version. (Volcano drone footage > Vader’s Castle from Rogue One with TIEs added > TIEs over forest)
In a version using Nev’s new Biomes footage, it would be two shots: Vader’s Castle from Biomes > TIEs over forest.
It might even be all right to go with: Volcano drone footage > Vader’s Castle from Biomes > TIEs over forest. But you’d only have time to see the front or side of the castle. (The music has dictated the pace of the added footage from the beginning. I synced the soundtrack to where the music is when we see Kylo and extended it backward.)
Not sure how that happened either. Did I send you the footage? Who knows.
I can always just NOT apply the LUT when I do the final pass and get to those shots and eyeball it for consistency at that point.
And yeah man, poppasketti! You steam a good ham.
Obi-Wan lives in literal denial that Anakin and Vader are the same person.
“What I told you is true.”

As I said in our PM, it’s very much okay.
If anyone is in a position to add TIEs to that shot to match the audio, feel free. Any speck removal can be done to the resultant footage, so no need to wait.

Granted the addition of TIEs would be great, but would it be possible to just move the sound to the very end of the biomes shot to act as a bridge between that and the TIE forest flyover?
Certainly could, but wouldn’t really sell the whole thing real well.
In case anyone reading this thread would care, I am in the process of rendering out ProRes master video files from FCP7 for my fan edit projects. Combined with the lossless audio outputs this will make things future-proof and available to anyone.
My edits of Ep1, 2, 3, Rogue One, and TFA are available now via the Google Drive, with the others to follow. (For the OT I might just export clips because one could just drag those clips in to replace equivalent portions of the OTD source.)

Here’s another version, shaving 24 frames off poppasketti’s shot and extending Nev’s.

Here is at least a proposed implementation of that shot, sans TIEs. Unless feedback demands changes, I would like to see TIEs added to this to complement the existing audio. (It need not match the direction of the movement in the audio, as it can be swapped.)

While there still is a bit of hyper-speed soot and ash in other spots, I cut away from the shot before a flurry of it came by that registers to the human eye at that speed as film specks. This also let me avoid the issue of cutting to the Castle late enough where the lavafall looks weird. If we don’t see enough of it at first, it’s just this weird orange line. This positioning feels like the audience can be oriented to this unavoidable orange line somewhat, and catch a glimpse of the lava river behind the castle but cut away before a soot-storm.
I know Nev worked hard on this one, and so I hate to cut any of it at all, beginning or end.
From a PM conversation with Nev, as advice for adding the TIEs:
I was thinking that they would fly toward the forest to the left of the castle, then turn right as they pass behind the castle. Though it would probably work either way, passing in front of it would be fine as well.
I’m sure that I’ll have opinions after it’s done, but honestly I can’t really imagine what will work best until then 😉
I see MR’s crackling saber effect has been removed from the list. Does that mean it won’t be used after all? 😢
I only removed his potential change of having the light sabers fizzle out and look like they are destroyed at the end, as well as at the end of the second death star door. The crackly light saber will surely happen eventually, by whatever means, even if it means a wait. If something changes and the footage about the Sabres fizzling out is available, I’d certainly not mind including it, but it’s all right if I can’t.
Hehe, fair enough! What matters most is what works best but I promise I will lean that way!!!
The viewer could mux in any audio for the master, so that’s no problem, benduwan.
And sounds great! Will look forward to both the master and edit!
I would think I’d just pick a portion of the shot that seems best to fit the length of the first two shots currently in my timeline.
Once I can block it out with audio, I will pitch it to volunteers. Poppasketti might be able to do it if he can have plenty of time to get to it. It’ll be some time for other puzzle pieces so it’d be worth waiting for, especially if audio can be finalized. (Or not even; I can splice that into foreign language tracks because there’s no language there.)
