Looks all right from what I can tell.
Looks all right from what I can tell.
Here’s the final version of Mustafar Minute’s opening. It has the LUT applied and everything.
“Look what you have made.”

Perhaps. It’d be nice, but at least it doesn’t impact any other changes to make or not make so we’ll see.
MR did also say he hopes to set aside a few FX changes like that to leave as unique to his project, which is perfectly reasonable.
Not remotely likely. And again, the Rey Nobody project is separate from me for right now. Whenever (and in principle, if ever) it is more or less complete and ready to go, I plan to insert it into Ascendant and release it as an alternate version.
Nice! Once I get the final bits and pieces from sherlock and/or CaptainFaraday I can finalize the audio and sync lock the picture. That’ll open the door for me to at least be able to work on some of the other things while waiting on the crackly saber effects to materialize.
Not necessarily in terms of time, but at least logically, we’re getting there!
Consider Mustafar wrapped up for V2. Nev’s most recent take on it is where it’s at. I just need to swap the audio channels and adjust sync to fit. No one would believe that out of everything done for this project more time and words were spent on this than anything else.
Let’s rent out a theater and have a marathon of Starlight, Rekindled, and Ascendant.
Nope! However, the main shot that seems different (the ghosts in profile with raised hands) seems to fit in well with no obvious difference in quality when ripped from his demo clip dropped into the timeline. So there’ll be that.
The other different shot that I recall is Obi-Wan moving his face. However, I found the effect less than convincing so I wouldn’t have included that one anyway. So while having the full clip would be better, we’ve got what we need for right now.
I imagine that being pretty tricky. I’m planning to sit down with Mustafar for what may be the last time tonight, and export something truly finalized.
Sending PM.
I was in a hurry looking at Nev’s most recent clip until now. I like the subtle touch of adding lava to the extreme right side of frame for poppasketti’s forest flyover shot!
The Biomes shot doesn’t really leave room for three shots.
And, Nev, I like that, especially if it makes more lighting sense. Did you zoom into the Biomes shot a bit?
It’s absolutely going to come down to the crackly saber footage. The rest of it will be tied up by that point.
Awesome! Since a plugin for the effect was released. I imagine it shouldn’t take long to get done. Who knows, V2 could be released this November like V1 was last year.
I’d say December at best. It’d be awesome to have it coincide with the film’s second anniversary, though at this point I am unwilling to release an intermediate version until V2 is complete.
So, we have two excellent ‘Mustafar Minutes’ on our hands.
First, the three shot version: https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/529875645
This one fits together cohesively. First shot has a lava flow next to a smokey forest. Then we see Vader’s castle with TIEs approaching camera followed by the forest flyover shot. We have forest being shown in shots 1 and 3, with it being implied in shot 2.
Then, the new two shot version we’ve been working on: https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/641962575
It has the advantage of having less going on and helping the pace in that regard. Very nice shot of the castle, though some seem to have an issue with transitioning into the forest flyover.
(One of the reasons for pursuing the Biomes footage in the first place was to avoid reusing footage from Rogue One, as in the three-shot version. However… we didn’t realize until after Nev poured hours of work into it that it essentially is a shot from Rogue One. Doesn’t mean it’s invalid, just that that isn’t a reason to favor it.)
I will show these two versions, with no explanation, to a few people foreign to this fan edit if not to Star Wars fandom in general, to get their opinions untainted by the insider knowledge we all have about the work that has gone into these. (Not that that necessarily will decide how to move forward!)
It’s absolutely going to come down to the crackly saber footage. The rest of it will be tied up by that point.
I do agree with Sherlock, it feels very right to go from the forest flyover into the scene proper. I think it’s implied in the transition from Castle to flyover that at least a little time has passed.
To be fair, that’s an advantage to the previous version using three shots. You get lava, seeing the castle as TIEs approach an area behind you that you don’t see until we cut to the forest flyover shot.
PM sent.
Mustafar sequence, proposed as final:

It’s got skenera’s LUT applied as well, so it’d be about how the final, cc’d fan edit will be.
Sade1212’s, Sherlockpotter’s, AND CaptainFaraday’s all sound very seamless to me. I’ve got all three lined up and trying to decide between them.
Sade1212’s are all mixed into a fully serviceable 5.1 mix. The clips CaptainFaraday sent me yesterday are not, and there are surround channels that have an echo of the original line and its placement. If sherlock can provide me with his fine-tuned take on things even just as the center channel, I’ll see whether it can be implanted into the mix.
Again, they all sound amazing and I’d be happy with any of them. I think CaptainFaraday’s has the slight edge, so hopefully an isolated version of the complete line can be presented.
sherlock, can you please send me the new “I am a jedi” line as you have it?
A spectacle of fan editing. Looking forward to the delicious meal.
Watching the clip hal, I think it looks good with the ties and whatnot not. I am colorblind, so I couldn’t contribute any color related things regarding some of the discussion.
I would say, if doable, the soot or speckles really, really stick out to me … kinda like dust on the film more than a scenic thing. If they could be cleaned up/remove, then it all looks great to me.
Yeah, that’ll be the thing to nail down about that shot. Idk if Nev can do that or someone else will need to. Anyone, let me know and I can send you the raw shot.
I’ll be happy to include whatever version you two hash out, of course.
The list of names in the OP is unmodified from V1, as is everything below the current working list of changes to V2. Once V2 is complete it’ll be updated.
I’m glad the audio sounds right at least! The entire sequence doesn’t have the LUT applied, so that may help them cohere, to have the same effect applied to all of it.
